  • In this video, we share a brewing video from the winner Ian himself, in which he presents his approach to brewing using the April Brewer. We then speak with Ian via Zoom, for an in depth discussion about coffee competitions, education, preparation and strategies.
Thank you to Kumquat for their partnership in hosting this brewing event. We would like to thank all of the sponsors, judges, volunteers and of course all of the competitors for their hard work and contributions to this event.

@@coffeewithaprilI'm a huge April fan, you guys don't follow, but lead and rethink the entire coffee industry. Your cups are really cool and different, your clothing line isn't for me, but it's definitely different, so is the coffee table.
I totally love the home brewing videos, they are so refreshing, insightful and just different compared to other coffee related videos. All this being said, I personally don't like the coffee competition part too much. I know you're participating in all kind of coffee events for years, but I find the rules they're based on a bit random and the presentation style is very similar throughout the competitors, at least in the WBC.

SSP MP burrs when the brewing recipe, coffee and water aligns perfectly = coffee nirvana! The only cons with SSP is it’s a PITA to get that perfect execution on some coffee beans

Thank you for sharing. We haven't been able to get brews that we are happy with using the SSP. But we are always interested in hearing how others are using it.

@@coffeewithapril I run my P64 grinder at 800 rpm and extract at higher TDS than standard recipe (~1.5 or 21-22% EY). The lower TDS makes it taste too thin and not enough texture
