@@Albert-q6u7z thanks for the comment! Yeah, a lot of people seem to have had the same experience. It appears like I got the only dud. When they restock I’ll try again.
Actually, OUTDOORS55 (his youtube channel) did! And it was 59hrc. Which isn't terrible for D2 but the it still won't hold an edge!! It's really bizzare!!
Have to say, this is the first review I've seen (of maybe 2 dozen or so) where the sharpness of the blade was an issue, generally they're in pretty good shape out of the box. I'd have to say you got a lemon, which is certainly possible, as I've seen some reviews where some QC problems were evident. But I also saw one review where the guy had used it enough to dull it to the point he could run his fingers over the blade with no problem. He used a stone for about a dozen strokes, a strop for about 1/2 dozen strokes, and the edge was back to cutting paper sharp again. So at least some of the knives have an edge out of the box (mine did), and some of them can be sharpened without a big hassle - but it might depend on the individual knife you get, which kind of sucks, and makes it a little bit of a crap shoot.
Hey Badger! Thanks for watching and the comment! Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a lemon. I love D2 steel! I have a large amount of knives with D2. I have never seen D2 act like this. However, when you think about how many knives this factory must be putting out (thousands and thousands!). There is bound to be a bad batch steel out there. I got this pretty early too. So it's easy to imagine they hadn't got the Quality Control up to snuff yet. If you have an example where the steel performs the way it should....it has to be on HELL of a knife for $10!!! I hope I find one as well! Cheers and thanks again!!
I shaved arm hair with mine out of the box. Did you film your efforts to cut paper BEFORE you spent $10 to "sharpen" it? I watched a guy on UA-cam live stream himself cutting cardboard for over 7 hours and it still cut paper, so I think you need to return yours and start over, on video, from the unboxing, because you are the first of about 25 YTers that I've watched that couldn't cut thin paper out of the box. I've seen folks discuss issues with the knife, but no one has said it's dull.
@@mrhalfstep thanks for your comments! I did try to cut paper out of the box. I do plan to try again when I get a replacement. The whole reason I made the video is (like you said) nobody has said anything about the knife not taking an edge. I suspect I just got a bad knife. With the numbers they are making I would expect some lemons to slip through. Thanks for watching!
Mine sharpens really good. I have spyderco and benchmade and this sharpens just as good as them.

Need someone with access to the thing to determine what kind of steel it really is. Also someone test the Rockwell. Even use those file testers on it.

What do you think about Spyderco? Used to carry when I worked outside.
@@onehunt I love spyderco! Mostly US made knives. Great selection of steels. The paramilitary 2 and native 5 are always in my EDC rotation!
