I just skipped through this video to see the inside of the faucet in order to fix my grandmother’s. Mission accomplished thanks to you. Thank you so much for helping me out!
My husband travels for work. So I watched your video and replaced the cartridge myself! Instead of a blow torch, I used pink rubber gloves lol. Fortunately, the ring was not as stuck as yours. Thank you for the video. 🦋
Hi Dino. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I had an outside shower that started leaking after the winter. I guess I didn’t get all of the water out when I winterized. Anyway, this video was perfect and solved my problem. I really appreciate that you put the part number in the video. I was able to find it immediately. Thanks again!
AWESOME video. Thank you! I hired a huge plumbing firm to fix the same issue, and they failed miserably. I watched your video, ordered my part on Amazon, and fixed the issue easy-peasy, all thanks to your video. Since this was my first time trying this, it took me 30 minutes, but if I had to do it again, I'm sure 20 minutes would be sufficient.
I was at the point of turning off the water when I found this video. I was waiting for the free replacement cartridge from Delta Faucets. You made it look so easy that I knew I could do it. The part came in yesterday. Happily I did it and was able to take a shower last night. Thank you so much!
Hi Dino. Thanks for posting. Great video. But I do have a warning for some of your viewers. This project was a failure for me. The collar was stuck in my shower also. Used the penetrating oil, banging with a hammer, and a big wrench. I couldn't get it off, so I decided to quit and put everything back together to call a plumber Monday morning. When I turned the water back on, huge leak in the wall. Seems I broke the valve in the wall. Ruined the drywall ceiling downstairs. Needed to call a plumber out for an emergency repair to put in shut-off valves. That cost $600. The cost to replace the valve in the wall is $1600. Drywall repairs and painting another $1000. So it cost me $3200. Next time I will just call a plumber.
One thing worth noting is that if a homeowner bought the faucet and still owns the home the part is under warranty and Delta will send you a cartridge for free.
I have the same exact shower faucet. Now I understand this video was uploaded about nine years ago. But I called Delta they told me the part number is RP 32104 for the cartridge. That’s the one they’re sending me. They even had me take pictures of the faucet that I text to them.
Wow, so good!! So, of course the written instructions are virtually useless. And so are the majority of videos. Then, bingo, I happen onto Dino. He is fast and accurate with no wasted words. Describes exactly what to do with maybe 20 comments which are exactly designed to keep you from making mistake. HE covers it all. As a college teacher, I am always amazed at these naturally gifted teachers on youtube who make life easier for us diy'ers. Thank you so much Dino
Awesome video! Very very helpful. Imagine if you performed a public demonstration on how to replace a Delta cartridge and 28,000 spectators showed up to fill the stadium.
Thanks for the video. My first time changing one and got it done in about 10 minutes. I took your advice and got a new nut too. The old one was a little tough to get off. Hammer didn’t loosen it and I was too chicken to use the torch. 😂 Instead, I just ran hot water through the faucet to get it hot and got it to break loose that way. Thank again.
FINALLY, Someone shows how to replace the O'rings in the back. watch 20 of these 17 series video that never shows the O'ring install. Outstanding video, you are the man. Thanks a lot
Good tip of finding the Model # on the parts when disassembled. I have an older model that I couldn't find, the parts number helped me find the right one!
I have this model, about to replace springs & seats for 3d time which Delta supplies free. Worst part is what they call a sleeve, that ring at 2:35 you had to apply the torch to. First time I remember speaking to a Delta tech who said soak it with a wet hot rag, "do not apply a wrench to it!" Haha. I did that did not work so I also used a big channel lock. Tried a strap wrench first could not get it. After that just did not tighten it so much. I'm also a big believer in the plumber's grease. The springs, seats & O rings are supplied by Delta free for life & this time they are sending me free a new cartridge. Putting those springs & seats shown at 10:50 are tough, new springs don't want to stay in in the seats, put springs into the rubber seats small side first & stick on end of a Phillips screwdriver & ease into the spot where they go, then take a long nosed pliers and slide them off the screwdriver into the hole.
Very nicely done. I'm glad you showed the tough parts and also gave useful advice at the end. This was worth watching all the way through. That was a quite a run from the shutoff back to the shower! Thank You!
Thanks Dino, video was a big help. That’s my project this weekend. And, like the last comment, thanks for the laugh as you ran back upstairs. It was funny. Have a good day!
Dino, thanks for the excellent video. I paid a plumber to replace the cartridge less than two years ago. It started leaking again and this time after watching your video, I replaced just the little "O" ring attachment and re-used the same cartridge. Saved over $100 in labor. Thanks again! (Delta replaced the parts for free. Delta guy asked if temperature and volume were ok, which they were, so he said I only need the "O" ring assembly.)
Dino... you save my butt tonight with your great video. I have a Monitor 17 and the bonnet screw would not come off. I used a hot vinegar soaked wash cloth and banded it with rubber bands for about 30 min. and begged a stronger neighbor to come and try to get it off. Then the dang adapter would not release. You video showed me how to get it off with snub nose plyers. From then I used your steps to rebuild it. Water is back on and no leaks. My 4th plumbing project. A huge thank you!
Very informative!!!! I learned from you to look at large plate for the model, that was great info because I am the second owner and didn't know what model is was. Thanks much!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for this video. A plumber was unable to remove the bonnet nut, but I did it later after trying vinegar, CLR, and then WD-40, which seemed to be the key. I didn't even need to use a wrench to remove it. No hammer, no wrench, no torch. Still this video was helpful to me for seeing how much force you used while still not damaging the valve. The plumber was intending to come back and cut a hole in the drywall behind the shower and change out the entire valve, which would have also required a new cartridge and bonnet nut. I saved myself several hundred dollars just using WD-40, patience and determination. And Delta is sending the part (the adapter only) at no charge. If that doesn't do it, I will also replace the cartridge. My shower is only 5 years old from a remodel done before I bought my place. And btw if I were to have to change the valve I think it might be a good move to upgrade to Moen or other brand.
Thanks for the video. I have have a hard time removing the coupler with a wrench. It was not budging at all. I found another video that recommended a “Strap Wrench” so I picked one up form Home Depot for about $15 and it worked well.
Thanks, your thumbnail brought me to your video. Every other one is not the right delta cartridge replacement. Sub'd and liked for the how to. And you don't studder and pause too much when talking too cause I get impatient when trying to get it done
Great video. Our shower recently developed a steady drip. This video clearly shows how to disassemble the faucet assembly. I thankfully discovered that the brass collar easily spun off, without a wrench. That may have been part of the problem...not on tight enough. I took out the washers and found some mineral deposits. Cleaned these off as best I could, with a small screwdriver. Reassembled everything and no leak! Our fixit company estimated over $400 to fix, based on my description. Plumbing supply company estimated $70 for parts and said $400 was not unreasonable. Took me about 30 minutes to fix, and no dollars! Thank you.
I'm gonna buy a torch! I've been soaking the ring with WD-40 for several days and it is still stuck. I have really chewed it up trying to get it off. You made it look easy. Thanks!
Just finished the repair replacement. I couldn't believe how accurate this was. Right down to the frozen ring and not using the clip that came with the washers. I had to go out a buy a large pipe wrench and it was worth it since I didn't need to use the torch. The banging the ring with a hammer was needed too. You should get a advertising fee from Milwaukee wrench. I got the cartridge free because I had the paper work for the purchase 6 years ago and there's a lifetime warranty. I don't think I could have done this without this video!
That's was dangerous and funny, using hammer and torch l used to be apts maintenance and l never in my life use those tools in that kind of catridges👍🙏
The temp control assemble at the final step fell apart on me & I spent some time finding the proper orientation, but definitely doable without turning the water back on, just be aware! Thanks for the only video i could find in this model!!
Hey there Dino, you did a great job! I bought a new house 21 months ago with 1 shower and 2 shower/bathtubs using Delta’s Monitor controllers. My shower’s got intermittent hot water, got to mess with it sometimes for 20 minutes before I can take a shower. I’m going swap out the RP 46463 (if I don’t eff it up.) Because I got 3 of these, I downloaded this video. Like the Litte Engine That Could I think I can - thanks to you! Wish me luck.
Watched this video, bought the corresponding cartridge, installed it and saved myself a plumber. Feeling very accomplished! Thank so very much for your awesome video! Subscribed!
Hey Dino. Thanks for the great vid. I was able to complete my shower repair in 37 minutes; start to finish. You saved me alot of time, dude. Thank you! I appreciate that you even gave the right part number. We were leaking 2 quarters of water per day. Glad to finally have it done. Thanks again!
thanks for helping me find the correct valve cartage only took two trips to the depot.. i didtn know about the whit peice in the valve body. thanks so much...
My bonnet nut was frozen by lime and time or whatever. I could NOT get it off. Tried heat, penetrating oil (Liquid Wrench), etc. No luck. So I put it back together to buy some time. Two months later I tried again: nut came off with a tap on the end of a pipe wrench. Easy as pie. I'm thinking the penetrating oil did its job, just needed more time. Soooo, to you amateurs out there, use Liquid Wrench, wait a day or two, then try again. Worked for me like a charm (though I waited more than a day or two).
Per other videos, I sprayed the stuck bonnet with WD-40 and it took a little pressure even with that but I did not break anything. Have patience! 66 year old woman here!!!
Great video, Dino. Thanks. Just one thing though. You forgot to mention the black plastic piece that goes in beneath the grey piece, which sets the temperature limit for the hot water. In your case, it was already set in the handle, but for someone who may have removed it or had it fall out while cleaning the parts, and I'm not sure if the replacement cartridge comes with instructions which mention it, but it's important to understand what that's for and how it can be adjusted to keep kids from possibly being scalded. But overall, this was an extremely helpful video. Thanks so much.
Thanks Dino! That's saves me a lot of trouble, since I has no idea how our Delta Monitor even worked. After watching I took some it apart. It doesn't leak but the temperature lever and the volume lever wobble, so I think the square part of the cartridge shaft is worn out and also the plastic part that temperature lever snaps onto as well. So it looks like we need both the cartridge and the all control levers and trim stuff. The Monitor is 13 years old.
Dino! You are the man!! Thank you for posting this! You've helped me fix my own shower and I even ran into the same issue with the brass ring being stuck. Seeing you work through gave me the confidence to do the same, blowtorch included. Thanks again!
A lot of the other videos on this project mentioned having to cut the bonnet nut off. I tried several methods of trying to loosen the nut and the nut would not budge . I used Dremel tool to cut off and it went great. The hard part is finding a replacement nut. I went to 8 different plumbing supply stores and everyone was familiar with problem but it was a week lead time on part as no one stocked his part. Lesson learned is to order part number RP22734 off of Amazon for 8 dollars and have it on hand in case yours is stuck also. My shower body was behind a ceramic tile wall and I was very cautious about twisting too much on nut.
Absolutely a great video for any homeowner. Went to store and bought WRONG cartridge????? Oh S**!!! We back, they didn't carry mine. Called DELTA and they are sending a NEW cartridge (in several days)! Its Saturday nite, so I went back and took it all apart and cleaned all the internals, then re-installed the cartridge....and... VOILA!!!! The leak is down to a tolerable drip that I can live with for the Four (4) days it will take for the new cartridge to arrive. New one is free by the way:):):). Thanks so much for this vid!!!!
I followed your video - got the seats and springs out, and then there were two o rings that came out as a single piece (like a figure 8), but then no adapter behind that. It’s just metal around the two holes, I tried digging around with pliers like your video but I’m not seeing anything in there that looks like the plastic adapter I have ready for replacement. I know I have a 17 series Delta shower faucet - I confirmed directly with Delta and they sent me the replacement adapter based on photos I sent them. Do some shower faucets not need adapters? Totally stuck as to what to do next. 5:23
Thank you for the helpful video. Watching it a few times, including while doing the repair, saved me a lot of time and frustration. Herewith some money-saving tips picked up along the way ... 1. Delta told me that drips and leaks often resolve by replacing only the cartridge adapter (# RP46073; $13.10), which is not much more than a 1/10 the cost of the entire assembly. 2. I was able to remove the brass/chrome ring that Dino had to heat up using a rubber strap wrench (Model # 45570) which cost $10 and change vs more than $20 for channel locks like Dino used.
Thank you, Dino. It's exactly the model that I have. I was looking for this kind of video and I totally agreed about replacing the whole kid instead to replace some parts and get a nightmare later. Very very useful video and thanks for the practical comments and to referece the kid P/N. 10/10 for your video!
So, I accidentally cut through the threads on the valve body when cutting off the bonnet ring. Installed all new parts and tightened down the new bonnet ring and seems to be working well without any leaks. Should I be worried that it might start leaking down the line?
The best put W40 around wait little time and then use Two channel Locks m and bigs to take it out the ring some times is hard if you twist to much the supplys pipes behind the catridge they are to weaks only 5/8s👍👍
About to replace 3 of mine. 2 year old showers and they already need replacing, temp control does not work. Video will make it much easier to understand than their instructions. Thank you! By the way, Delta sent all 3 for free to me when i complained that a 2 year old house and already these cartridges are failing.
often the installing plumber will not follow manufacturers recommendations on installation....they supposed to remove the remove the meltable plastic cartridge before using the MAPP torch to solder the pipes....this will damage o-rings and cartridges....what i am saying is it's prolly not delta fault but a careless install...thanks for watching and thanks for comment
Vinegar Soak Time appears to matter. I had similar leak and stuck bonnet nut, so I shut off water and ran faucets until dry and tried Liquid Wrench (lots all around both sides of bonnet nut), tried straight vinegar on rag for 5 hours wrapped around bonnet nut and cartridge that was plastic wrapped on the outside to decrease smell and evaporation, then tried tapping with hammer, pulling on strap wrench handle with 2ft long box wrench for leverage, long pipe wrench, huge Channel Lock pliers, but nothing would budge the nut. My shower surround is fiberglass, so I wasn't willing to try the torch. I didn't want to file a slot in the nut since I didn't want to apply as much impact force with a hammer as it might take to get it to turn that way. Finally, I tried the (Delta-suggested) 50% vinegar, 50% water on the rag, wrapped the bonnet and cartridge again with it and then plastic wrapped the outside of the rag again. I decided to leave it there for an additional 24 hours, though I did turn the water to the house back on during that time (Delta didn't recommend a particular time length for the vinegar/water wrap). Came back, turned water off, and ran faucets, and that time the strap wrench got it loose on the first try. When reassembling (after replacing just the seats and springs), I used some silicone grease on the threads. Best of luck to all.
Hello, I know this video has been posted 9yrs ago but I’m trying to replace my cartridge because of low water pressure. I have good pressure to the housing and replaced the old cartridge but it hasn’t fixed the problem. Any suggestions?
Have you ever drilled out the Center tube inside thats a water saver?. other videos the valve is good low water flow. Mines almost new and the shower next door is fine for flow. I have a monitor and before we redid the shower we had no problem with the old shower flow.
My delta 17 series shower turns on when turned counter clockwise (as expected) and turns off as you turn the handle clockwise... but then as you approach the "off" position, it turns back on. So off is in the middle of the rotation of the handle, instead of at the right end of the rotation. Is this a problem with the cartridge or is it installed wrong? Thanks!
My problem is I have no drip when my unit is off but when my unit is on and the water is coming out of my tub spout if I put the power up all the way to full I’ll get some water coming out of my showerhead but when I have it turned to 3/4 no water comes out of my showerhead
Not sure how many of you know this but Delta has a life time replacement on all their products and this applies to the cartridges as well. Contact them by phone and they will send it to you for free. You will still have to do the replacement but the part is free. Hope this helps!
Also wanted to mention that although everything was indeed free, and the gentleman I spoke to was helpful, the time on hold can be very long (even over an hour) if you call during peak hours. So plan accordingly.
Hey Dino ! ! You sound exactly like a lot of my old buddies from the hood in New York. This is the first out of 3 videos I've watched where someone actually said to turn off the main water supply . . . . . . no brainer, right ? ? Not for a lot of murphs out there ! ! Great video bro ! !
Dino, my Delta 1700 series shower faucet hot water has low pressure, but the cold side has good pressure. I got the Delta cartridge RP46463, and tried to replacement it. I could not get the ring holding the cartridge to move. The shower faucet was installed 12 years ago. How much heat is needed to break the ring loose, or would penetrating Oil work to free the ring. Thank you, Stan
That ring would come off easier without 60 psi pressing against it. You have to release the water pressure in the pipes by opening up the faucet after shutting off your supply.
At 2:10 seconds into the film he opens the faucet in the sink to ensure the water is turned off, which effectively releases most of the pressure in the lines!
I just skipped through this video to see the inside of the faucet in order to fix my grandmother’s. Mission accomplished thanks to you. Thank you so much for helping me out!

good by leak & good riddance to0.. hello leslie!
ive got a brand new valve and it spins all the way around does that mean its faulty or am i doing something wrong
I was at the point of turning off the water when I found this video. I was waiting for the free replacement cartridge from Delta Faucets. You made it look so easy that I knew I could do it. The part came in yesterday. Happily I did it and was able to take a shower last night. Thank you so much!

Sorry to hear this. Thank you for your post so people ( non - professionals) can learn and evaluate the risk
Sad story. Water in the house is the trickiest, most deadly thing. I appreciate your telling it.
One thing worth noting is that if a homeowner bought the faucet and still owns the home the part is under warranty and Delta will send you a cartridge for free.
3 months later. Lol
Yep. That's how I got mine.

Second time I used this great video. Had to get the B tank out myself this time. Thanks again.
Thank you. Perfect video for me. Can't tell you how much I appreciate this.
Awesome video - MUCH better than the official Delta video. Real world stuff is so much more helpful.

Nice video Dino. You sound like a Bronx BOY!Done in detail.
What a cool dude ! Excellent video Dino - I was cracking up when you were running up the stairs🤣😂👍🏾
Thanks for showing this! Helps a lot. I would Locktite that screw 9:40 they always come loose sooner or later.
Took me a while to find you and glad I did. Thanks for your video on this
Came across your video. What a lifesaver. Thanks!
Can you replace Delta cartridge RP46463 with RP32104? It does not have the 2 V shape notches, only 1 square notch
Thanks a million for the video. Liked the trick with propane tourch.
great job step by step and and replaced mine without calling a plumber
Totally same issues but different model. Now I know how to fix it. Thx a lot
I just accomplished the repair myself. Thanks to you for the great video.
Excellent! Exactly what I needed. Many thanks.
Dino! You are the man!! Thank you for posting this! You've helped me fix my own shower and I even ran into the same issue with the brass ring being stuck. Seeing you work through gave me the confidence to do the same, blowtorch included. Thanks again!
This is great! Shows everything that can go wrong.
Thanks for the help man , this did the trick , keep up the good work
Dino, great to the point video. Thank you so much.
Thanks, Dino, for a very helpful video
Hats off to you, sir! Thank you! Hope you are well in these challenging times!
Thanks so much for this vid!!!!
probably a chunk of scale from the water heater or calcium deposit from the pipes. Damaged rubber gasket none the less.
Hi Dino, you saved me from lot of trouble with this video. Greatly appreciated.
So, I accidentally cut through the threads on the valve body when cutting off the bonnet ring. Installed all new parts and tightened down the new bonnet ring and seems to be working well without any leaks. Should I be worried that it might start leaking down the line?
Leather belt or adjustable oil filter wrench work well to remove the retaining ring.
Thanks for this video. It was a life saver
But how do you get the first piece off that the handle attaches to? I don’t see an Alan key hole anywhere.
Thanks buddy, it helped a lot.👍👏🏻🙏
Great video. I appreciate your time in re riding this and sharing it.
Hello, I know this video has been posted 9yrs ago but I’m trying to replace my cartridge because of low water pressure. I have good pressure to the housing and replaced the old cartridge but it hasn’t fixed the problem. Any suggestions?
Outstanding!!! Nice video
Thank you so much for this video! Subscribed!
Have you ever drilled out the Center tube inside thats a water saver?. other videos the valve is good low water flow. Mines almost new and the shower next door is fine for flow. I have a monitor and before we redid the shower we had no problem with the old shower flow.
Thanks man! Now I know where to get started!
Thanks!
My problem is I have no drip when my unit is off but when my unit is on and the water is coming out of my tub spout if I put the power up all the way to full I’ll get some water coming out of my showerhead but when I have it turned to 3/4 no water comes out of my showerhead
replaced like this and no water came out?
Should one put copper anti-seize on the threads?
Great hustle. Thanks for the video.
Thank you,
Stan
thanks for the video. You did a great job, saved me a ton of time!
That last screw that holds the temperature adjusting handle.....how do you keep it in? Mine keeps on backing out over time.
Thank you great video 👍
Great job 👍
Great job that what I needed, thank you very much
That ring would come off easier without 60 psi pressing against it. You have to release the water pressure in the pipes by opening up the faucet after shutting off your supply.
At 2:10 seconds into the film he opens the faucet in the sink to ensure the water is turned off, which effectively releases most of the pressure in the lines!
Great instructional video, thank you.
Thank you!!!! Perfect instructions!
When would you only need to change the seals and under what conditions do you need to change the cartridge?
Thanks. Great video
