This brings me joy and hope for myself. For a myriad of reasons, it's been years since I've written. It's to the point where my therapist is helping me work through the mental blocks preventing me from writing. Not writing has been brutally hard for my mental health. I'm going to take this video as a sign that today I will work on tackling those mental blocks. Thank you! ❤

I stopped writing around the same time you did (got married and became a mom too, life has been busy). I love my work in progress, I think about it, but it’s been so long. I was at the peak of my writing abilities, and I feel like I can’t continue my story until I’ve worked back up to that level. So I haven’t written anything. This might of inspired me to actually try writing again. Thank you!

This makes me so happy! The best thing for us to do is just start. The longer we go, the more we think our skills depreciate and thinking that means we go even longer. It's time to break the cycle!

Thank you for this video Vivien. I have been struggling to get back to writing myself. I have so many ideas but it’s like my brain locks up or something. You are always such an inspiration.

I can relate to the absence of writing. I had cataracts on both eyes and had to wait 18 months for removal, so it's been almost 2 years and I'm only just staring to figure out a new idea for a book. Anyway, it's so good to see you back on UA-cam and back to writing.

Wow I'm so glad you're getting back into it and that your eyesight has been restored! That must have been tough to go through for so long. I hope your idea sparks some inspiration to write again!

I can honestly really relate to this. For about six months (starting last fall) I hit a writing burnout. Not just with writing, but with many aspects of my life I enjoy such as Bible study and fitness. The past couple of months I finally was able to find that fire for my writing again. It can be very intimidating once you get out of that flow. I was scared that I wasn't going to be able to find that love again! But I'm proud to say I am back in full swing and I am crushing NaNo so far! My goal is 40K words this month, which is a lot, but I'm almost at 13.5K words now. A couple months ago I would have thought no way. After this month, the first draft of my book will be complete. Wishing you SO much love and support, Vivien! You've got this! No matter if you hit your goal this month or not, the most important thing is to start. And you've already done that. Again, welcome back. :)

Firstly, progress is progress, no matter how little the count looks. You got words in, that's progress! ♥
1:52 - I am doing Camp NaNo and I'm drafting a novella that I've been wanting to write for a while. To start, I'm only aiming for 20,000 words. I prefer saving the 50 for November. Camp is more chill for me and I need to, I can change the goal.

I'm not doing Nano, but I'm here to cheer writers on who are. I know it's doable. You would only have to write about 1700 words a day to reach 50k in a month.
Congrats on getting back into writing. Oftentimes, life happens, and we are pulled away from projects. I've been there and picked back up a project that I had considered scrapping. Wishing you much success.

I'm getting back into writing stories again. I'm not participating in camp nano as I'm leisurely working on my projects. I had some digestive issues that's taken most of this year so far. I work on stories when I feel like it for no pressure and I'll have some week to month gaps. Relaxing most of the time, eating healthy, and staying away from stress. Camp nano and nanowrimo caused small amount of stress previous years participating so I'm avoiding it but working on my stories when I feel up to it. 🙂 This is considered a relax year.
Glad you're getting back to writing again. Happy writing Vivien! I watched a lot of your vlogs from previous years. Glad to see you vlogging and making progress on projects you want to do after a break.

Glad to see you are back! I am giving Camp NaNoWriMo a shot this time as well. I haven't done it since 2018, but I have been doing a ton of prep work for this current novel idea and I hope to get a decent chunk of the first draft done.

I took a 5-6 year break from writing after getting married. My wife and I couldn't have kids so we ended up adopting and...turns out they're still a handful. Anyway, I've just started back writing this year and while I'm super slow (about 30k words in 6 months), I'm enjoying it and slowly rebuilding my writing muscles. In some ways, I'm no where near my peak, but in other ways I'm the best I've ever been cause I have a lot more years and perspective now. You can do it!

I'm doing Camp. My goal is only 10k. That's because my goal for this month is to work on revising my novel from November that I just finished last week. I'm starting by looking at all my chapters, making a plan, and heavily editing almost 100k words. I won't finish, but I'm starting

@@VivienReis Well I certainly won't complain about more Keira.
Once I'd barely started a book...now I'm 16 chapters into book 3 of that series (admittedly this took several years lol)

  • @erynreagan7747

Girl I feel ya on not writing for a while lol ever since November I have had writers blockage due to an unexpected breakup after 11 years with him. No explanation. So this entire situation of the confusion and shock made my brain grow blank and not being able to write and it's frustrating. So, lol one way to help get me back into the flow of the fictional world is reading books so I've been doing that lately. Just finished Haunting Adeline lmao if you know you know girls 😂❤. I wanna write or revise my manuscript but I gotta reread everything and my glasses don't have that blue lighting in them so my eyes get easy strained so that might be also why I hadn't written/typed cuz it's mostly on the screen. My hands are the devil lol they cramp up now when I write by hand but I try my best. *sighs* lol just glad I'm not alone 😅 I hope you win NaNoWriMo ❤ I have faith in you! 🤘🧡

I use a combo of Google Docs (when I'm out and about) and Scrivener.
I just added my Scrivener link to the description. Their trial is great if you've never used it before and if you win Camp NaNo you usually get a discount code from the NaNoWriMo.org site :)

    This comment is a request.
    Unrelated to your video.
I have been watching your videos and am in awe on how many useful tips you provide on your channel based on writing. Not being a strong avid reader myself and struggling to publish my first book, this comment is to ask for your recommendations on certain plots for fantasy, magic school trope (for writing, as I'm working on my debut series)
I have build a magic world and it's a coming of age, young adult fantasy series and I would honestly love your opinions and suggestions.
So basically, I feel stuck in my story despite working on it for 3 years and since you have read many stories, your suggestion would be of high value to me.
It's a magic school story, with learning magic to saving it, to possessing more magic than others, there's politics, there's a social evil character trying to win over the world.
I need some plot points. Some suggestions.
    Well, take it this way.
You have written many books and you have your favourite themes.
Well I'm interested in adding those themes in my novels.
As many themes as you like, all are appreciated.
If in the future, I do end up using those themes or anything that you wish to see in novels, I will mention your name in the acknowledgements of my book.
    - to be author of HEDS Series (hope soon, so you can see your name in the acknowledgements, do contact me if you find your name and want to give even more suggestions or talk to me regarding my novels)
