The little drums your talking about are called "Micro Beats" and were invented by Bjork. There made up of loads of common sounds like cards being shuffled, and were made by her, so the album would sound crisp and clear when played on an laptop, which at the time had terrible speakers which couldn't process a lot of music's actual sound. She's a genius!
My favorite björk album, so intimate, crystalline and beautiful. Pagan Poetry is one of her top tracks ever, her vocals at the end of the song are unreal
U’ve just discovered (imo) the greatest singer songwriter / producer of all times, and absolutely the best album too. Try her album Homogenic next, it’s almost equally amazing.
You know that saying 'dance like no one is watching'? Well Bjork sings like no one is listening, totally unfetered and free, no worries of sounding unusual. Some of the production on this album was by electronic duo Matmos who were experimenting a lot around this time with these kind of sounds. Their 'A Chance to Cut is a Chance to Cure' album was made primarily from samples of medical tools and procedures.
Funny and ironic is that A Moon Shaped Pool is Radiohead's own musical embodiment of Vespertine, but somehow it's their breakup album, while Vespertine is a horny ass record lol
this album is so excellent that i want to keep it a secret. i don't want to tell people how good it is because it feels like a piece of my heart. to share it feels like I'm exploiting it and I've never had this experience with an album before.
every single björk album sounds different and special, there's always something unique with her music that will catch your ear. homogenic, medúlla, post, vulnicura, fossora... all of them actually :P
I always love watching more people discover Bjork 😊😊🥂. I will recommend listening to her discography in chronological order. It will truly showcase her Growth As a Person & her Sonic Evolution 🤯🤯. This album was inspired by her romance with a good friend and fellow music producer she would collab with at times, Matthew Barney. She had gone thru a divorce from her son's dad ; a few years before this album. This project is a reflection of this new phase of her life and encountering Love again but hesitant to trust. Vespertine's sounds are full of classical instruments , electronic Synths but also ingeniously incorporates the use of Micro-Beats(everyday sounds like shuffling a deck of cards to shaking a bag of chips) in the lush yet simple production. Your comment about RadioHead and the sounds are spot on. Her previous albums Debut (1993) & Post (1995) were influence for Radiohead and their 97 album, Ok Computer.
Before Björk, there was Nina Hagen. Since Björk's vocals caused such an impact on you, take a listen to her album Nunsexmonkrock. It's arguably the most creative use of human voice ever put on a record. Sometimes people say she sounds evil, I see it as the wrath of angels in ecstasy.
This album is best listened to on headphones going for a long walk on a dark street ,at night in January during -10 degrees Celsius, with the snow crunching under your feet as you walk with your face to the stars and maybe glimpsing a shifting aurora... Pure magic. ✨✨ Because i did in my twenties and it felt like my soul was soaring with the stars and universe
@@lemmmakestunes8312 yeah id say rdj is probably the best, saw1 is also pretty easy to get into but its also much more mellow than most of his discography
Weeeell, candid reaction! If you liked her voice, I would recommend her next album, "Medulla": it is an a capella album. It is incredible how she changes from Homogenic to Vespertine and then Medulla!
That frosti interlude is pretty great like i love music boxes there beautiful but like the way its processed is like really christmasy like its beautiful its sleepy and nice but also like really upbeat and bell like
Im hoping you can expand your format a bit, cause you should really try watching the live performance of Vespertine "Live at the Royal Opera House" Its literally perfect.
I've been following your series for a while, I know I'm under the wrong video but I've really appreciated your prog rock reviews, and here I recommend a few albums that imo you should listen to! Soft Machine - Third Egg - Self titled Gong - Angel's Egg Aphrodite's Child - 666 Beware because these are a tough listen! Keep it up!
This whole album is very ASMR. Bjork has said that it is supposed to sound like winter actually! Thank you so much for covering great yet less popular artists. ❤️
"Dreamy and surprisingly intense" is a PERFECT description of this album. And the way you're just sitting there with your jaw hanging open? Yeah I did the exact same thing 21 years ago, LOL Never occurred to me until you mentioned it that this album is chock-full of ASMR sounds. Also, your T-shirt is killing it. Props!

would be awesome to see you do a reaction to ceres and calypso in the deep time by candy claws! amazing shoegaze album that sounds nothing like other stuff from the genre
It's cool you enjoyed it. I still haven't come around on this album. If you're interested in noise rock at all, Umber by Bitch Magnet is a fine release. The album has a level balance of harder and slower material.
You should totally react to a matmos record. They did some of the beats on this album (mostly the samplier stuff) and they have a really cool discography. I would recommend either the civil war, which is this really cool medieval folktronica thing or ultimate care 2 which is a single 40 minute song, entirely sampling the duo’s washing machine. They are both dope as fuck
idk why the thumb is killing me but nice video this album is amazing . Btw - there are some bsides from the album too that i think ud enjoy (ie generous palmstroke, domestica)
I heard this for the first time a couple days ago, and can say my reactions were very similar to yours except with a bit more tearing up lol. This album got me floating.
