All perfect and reasonable. I love checking out the places I am going via Google maps and street view...and once I am back home, I do it again and again to reminisce over the wonderful places I have been and the great time I had!
Oh, and I love what you said about the world is a safer place than we give it credit for.
We might (see I used the word 'might') be traveling soon, and it's my first time out of the country, so I'm really paranoid. I'm binging on Sonia's channel and watching all the safety videos in preparation.
We had our very nice Canon DSLR stolen a few years ago by keeping it on the back of a chair. It's true keep your hands on it! Great advice!!! :)

Brilliant videos Sonia, the world is 'nicer & safer' than most people think and it is because travellers, like you, share the info they have earned. I love google earth walking, makes me feel like a local before I get there!

@Aerosmithfan79: The wet season starts in June, peaks in July to September, and peters out in October. But I've heard that patterns has lately been screwed up, with the rains arriving later and lingering into December. Furthermore, Cebu is sheltered from the monsoon rains so it can rain anytime. Cebu is a great place, you have to enjoy the beach!!! Really great and if you have time, visit Bohol island as well :D I used to Kayak from one island to another on weekends for fun. Miss that country!

One of the most simple ' weapon ' you can carry around while you travel alone is the whistle . Try using the loudest whistle like the Storm whistle . Just hang it around your neck . Try blowing your whistle around people and watch what happen .
A pen works to. The best for defending is to use it to stab someone.
+Yvonne Cheung That's a good idea. It'll leave someone in shock and a lot of pain for a couple seconds, and you'll have a chance to get away. Admittedly, you might have to run like you're in the Olympics, but at least you'll have some defense. And believe me, I know how it feels to get stabbed by a pen. It. Hurts.

It happened at Gare du Nord. I tried to purchase metro tickets from the machines because I was unable to find a ticket counter. After realising that I am unable to purchase tickets by cash because I didn't have enough coins nor a local credit card, someone in line behind me offered to help. The young man spoke fluent English and insisted that instead of getting 10 tickets, I can make 10 trips with 1 ticket. France, as I know, is the same country like most other country in Europe: don't worry.
It's common to say that French people have'nt the gift of tongue, maybe, slow speaking is a good tip. Strangely, the youth speak very fast and it can be exhausted to undestand.
My point of view: in France, people will be very different if you pay attention on the area from they are.
