I believe the sound is not finished either. I don't think it needs to be updated. I think a more polished sound would Do. This is 2010 not 1994. It's an urban track.
You can tell it wasn't going to be released because it sounds so under produced, they haven't sampled anything, mariah hasn't added loads of her unique ad-libs, etc etc its just the foundation to what could be a really nice song!!!
