And one sleeping in the nearby bushes that can't be woken up even by screening women.
And given a fish by a fisherman

The fact that the fisherman conveniently arrived and willingly handed over a massive fish in exchange for nothing wasn't even bad enough. It was the fact that the ladies returned to the camp saying _"WE CAUGHT A MASSIVE FISH!"_
Did you fuck, you little liars?
They were obviously being helped every step of the way. I was shocked how hands-off the men's team had it, in comparison to the ladies' team, which had two defenseless pigs basically delivered right to them.
Barneys a real one dude. Always helping. Saved a dude. Caught the first food.
compare sam's determination diplomacy and mindset to the others that have been alienated throughout the series and it honestly shows a lot of character. dude knew when he had to earn back respect and absolutely nailed it. bringing in 2 dozen fish doesnt hurt too XD
@@mrsmith9597I agree. Sometimes it’s better to hold your cards close until you absolutely need to show them. It’s like having a great 6th man on your bench. I get Vic's and others point - at the end of the day its results that count and had Sam split his time and got some wood, which is a garanteed win, he wouldn't of caught so much flak. That said, at the end of a few days his determination and strategy was right - a net will catch way more food than 1 rod. It took multiple attempts to set it right but now they know the way it should continue to deliver a bounty. Set the net then go fetch wood and water.

This shows 1 important aspect of survival. Innovation.
In all societies, you need someone to be innovative and break the norm. While yes they might not be the most liked, after failure and failure and failure eventually they succeed and improve the rest of society.
Reminds me of Flik from A Bugs Life.
I mean Vic can have his opinion and founded or unfounded trust in someone he barely has gotten to know on a personal level, but the other guy could just ignore it and let it dissolve. The wonderful thing about a gift is you dont have to accept it… 😂

At 12:16, it would be far more efficient and supportive for the group if someone who could weave (like the guy who told him that he's doing it wrong) simply stood up and showed him the proper way to weave. This approach not only saves everyone time but also helps him feel like a valuable member of the team, rather than someone incapable of contributing due to a lack of skills. Weaving is an incredibly simple skill to teach, taking merely about five minutes. Yet, instead of offering guidance, they choose to mock him and urge him to "man up." This situation isn't about toughening up; it's about learning a skill that needs to be taught.
That's what would happen if one hadn't already tested the patience of the group for weeks. Eventually people run out of patience.
@@bitemyshite
That's understandable, but it still won't help the group. How is he supposed to do work for the group if he doesn't know how? They're in it together and they need to help each other to be more productive.

If the boys played by the girls rules it would be easy and boring, if the girls played by the boys rules they wouldn't have lasted three days. So they make little adjustments to keep it watchable.

Not sure about Grylls' fearmongering about Autophagy.
It's a cellular process that is almost constantly occuring and fasting increases it dramatically and it's shown to have numerous health benefits.
Japanese dude won the nobel prize back in the mid 2010's for discovering it.
Autophagy =/= starvation.
Thank you for addressing this. When I heard him say that I was like... naaah.
@@nigelhutchinson5332 A little knowledge is dangerous huh
That's precisely what crossed my mind when he mentioned it. True, autophagy is heightened during fasting, but it's likely they've been experiencing increased autophagy since day 2, which isn't particularly remarkable. Elevated autophagy can actually be quite beneficial for your health. It's a completely natural process that everyone should experience occasionally in order to maintain good health. This process of cellular cleaning and renewal plays a crucial role in our overall well-being. The real danger lies in the "starvation metabolism," which typically occurs when a person's body fat drops below 4% and they have almost no skeletal muscle left. At this stage, the body begins to consume its internal organs. It's not just skeletal muscle and fat tissue being broken down, but also the heart muscle and other vital organs, in a desperate attempt to survive a bit longer. These losses can be recovered if one starts eating again, but without nourishment, death is inevitable.
@@Marco_My_Words there's pretty good evidence that the increase in autophagy from a 72 hour fast is extremely beneficial for people going through chemotherapy as well

In reality, in an actual stranding, there’s a good chance a wound like that would have killed him through infection, or of he was lucky enough not to get infected, it would greatly affect his ability to complete many of the daily tasks. And in all honesty, there’s no point in taking the risk of a life long injury for a temporary scenario.

Ross: "Sam is avoiding harder tasks" Sam: "I wanna go hunt, I wanna go fish" while cutting wood and bending leaves. I think they all think they look bad ass saying "man up" when they are just big hungry toddlers using sam as a scapegoat to complain
I don't understand how you can be on an island for weeks and not create a proper roof over your head.
Probably not enough energie. Plus like we saw in this episode the leaves have to be replaced so it takes away even more time.
didnt you see they need to keep replacing the leaves either due to hot weather (the leave wilt so fast) or storm/monsoon? and they havent gotten much energy bruh just eating those small stuffs.
@@Maur0dm that's just not true! The leaves don't need to be replaced constantly on a well made shelter. You don't even need to use leaves. Use bark, make shingles. Weeks and weeks they were there and they can't even make a little rainproof shelter for wood. They scramble to do things when it rains instead of being prepared for when it rains (during the rainy season, no less). I'd have a community hall built, my own beach hut, a smokehouse and food store by week 2
Looks like I have an unpopular opinion, but Vic isn't REALLY a great leader thus far. Sure, he carrys the islanders along and is very well skilled. But it seems he's more interested in calling everybody lazy and intitled instead of actually pulling the group together and educating them. He keeps making sniddy remarks that aren't really necessary, like Sam's upbringing for example, to the point where it's almost lowkey bullying. A good leader wouldn't discriminate a team member because he's a "soft southerner". A few weeks ago he was complaining of nobody putting in effort for fishing/hunting, and now he's complaining that people are? Idk, he's by far the most resilient but his skills in motivation and team spirit are lacking and that can really impact the group.
Why i cried always when they got food 😢
I think they are now friends for life now
They could’ve use those spoiled fish as bait,
How do you not know to pick up the net first thing in the morning?
I might be wrong but Sam Farmer owes the scuba diver some cash for those fish when this is over.
Anyone who does not realise that hard work shared between the whole group is the best. Then they need to be told bluntly they are being useless. When your being told by multiple people saying your not doing enough and your attitude i believe o work hard, dont matter what you believe reality is your not helping enough and its sickening that when they push the group to the edge they get lucky and all is forgiven 😂
Will leaving is basically a death. This must feel almost worse.
Vic so brutal😂
Why Isit the men have to do so much work with water and wood, and the women seemed to always be jsut chatting?
I’m yet to see a team that establishes daily routines, and day by day plans of what they need to do to survive. It’s usually addicting efforts, always from scratch, nothing planned, and they do it in weird times. You gotta accept that you’ll not have much energy after the first couple days, so you need to do the heavy lifting then, make camp, find water source, make sure you’re established. Then you need to find constant and sustainable food sources, when you don’t just go out and get lucky, but you are trying to repeat the daily work. Sure at least Vic goes fishing, but it is only one source, not reliable, you need to find other sources too, and day by day repeat the method. That is only working with a daily schedule!
Then you gotta accept you’ll not sleep much at night time, so why not sleep at lunch, from 11am to 2pm, when it is warm anyways, and you’ll not have energy. Not to mention it is warm, so you can sleep without shivering, and during the day most critters are also sleeping so you wouldn’t be bothered. They have lights, so no reason why they cannot work at night with things that wouldn’t require a lot of visibility. And then lastly, you gotta plan out when certain things can be done, you cannot expect to go fishing and catch fish at daylight, fish also hides during the warm times, not to mention they are scared away by shadow over the water, so if they see your shadow, they will not bite.
Again, all that planning, I miss. Sure might be missed from the videos, because it is a more boring side of the survival, but still, I don’t see it in any of the seasons, not even the result of something like that.
+ one thing, not everyone has the same energy levels and talents, so try to find for everyone what they are good at, if it is simply sitting in one place, give them something they can repair, mend, or create while sitting… you cannot expect that everyone will put in the same and equal effort and energy, it would be simply mayhem. But again, I don’t see this happening either, it is just constant decay and trying to wait it out until they can go home.
Its easy to say than done. None of them, have good experience with this kind of thing, even if some have a bit, like Vics, it could happen differently.
Its possible if its your friends, or a designated team, but a random strangers with different backgrounds, jobs, personality and prejudice, its isnt as easy as us watching (you can see it yourself in the episodes).
Malnourished, dehydration and hunger, takes lots of toll not only on the body but also your mental.
Your thinking capabilities isnt normal.
One might think to have a routine (like Will mentioned) but you can see from the others POV that some of them rejected the idea.
Its possible, but only in a perfect situation or a sandbox well planned survival.
What you have seen is what most 'normal people' will do in a survival mode.
@@haku9815 but it IS a perfect sandbox survival situation... they know what they are going to do, they know what they are up to, well before it happens, they get a day of training, and they also get tons of support that helps them to start. You're not gonna get a better option for a survival situation, one might even say, it's perfect.
Yeah, I got it how many were simply obsessed by Vic's fishing capabilities and translated that to being the best survival, and you gotta give him he does have a talent to fishing among a lot of other things, but he was actually one of the participants that put them for way too long in a worse situation, because of his constant bickering, his demeanor, attitude, and because even if everyone should be doing what they are best at, he simply refused to do that for a whole day, in a life and death situation. If that indeed wasn't the perfect sandbox survival situation, that would have been the stamp on their death wish. Doesn't matter that the others didn't pull as much of their weight or at least not in the manner that Vic wanted it, him suddenly, without any warning or discussion just refusing to do what he is good at, it's childish and dangerous. But since this is not a real survival situation, but a show where drama is necessary, it didn't mean their end.
In a way, I see your point, you're right that many things affect how one works, and I do agree with this, that's why I wrote that you gotta plan ahead and do the hard lifting BEFORE the exhaustion hits in, and focus your energy well. And the fact that they cannot plan, or establish a daily routine is actually the failure of all the "alpha" males and females who want to prove they can single handedly do it all, and when they get tired they start to whine about everything and they go on a tantrum.
@@VagabondTurtle I understand where you're coming from.
And your whole point about Vics itself proves the imperfection and lack of a Sandbox where most variable are not in control. Mother nature in tropical island itself is a wreck, the people is a whole lot more wrecked, they have to figure it out, TOGETHER.
The main reason its so hard to plan ahead of everything itself is due to the random mother nature and of course we human personalities. Its easy to communicate, comprehend and tolerate between 3-5 people, but psychologically its hard to do it with 11-14 people, especially with those soup mix backgrounds, thats why a team usually consist of 4-5 people.
The things about choosing a leader nor someone who they can trust, is earned through hardship and experience, that thing itself couldn't be done withing few hours or days into the island. Before you get it sort out, things would dramatically be in wreck first, as you can see in their situation.
Cus heck nobody got much time when its monsoon so suddenly and you havent done pretty much the basic rules of 3.
Yea there's only so many times you can watch a bunch of guys rush to protect a fire and firewood during a downpour before you start to think, maybe they could do this before the rain comes
I don't understand how these guys didn't have at least three people fishing with Vic, using the same methods as him given how fruitful it was and he's not even a hobby fisherman.
I think Vic was using the last hook they had. Mentioned on a previous episode
@@Carlosmltr I must have missed that, I think in a previous episode they all went fishing when he was on strike so thought they had many hooks.
I think it was poor of them to not at least have one person join him for some company and safety.
This is where all the body positivity people gotta go to
That's because when you want to catch fish using those net the the high success rate of catching is actually around 4 am to 6am then 5pm to 7pm and try to know the strongness of the current which can be predictive by how big the moon but still there a time that the current is still strong which is easily known by observing how big the tides are..
10000% a fish caught in a net for 8 hours wouldn’t be off. Super fixed episodes that are still entertaining to watch
They don't know when the fish got caught mabye it got caught at night Time or even the evening
Fish can be caught the moment you set the nets so yes they can go off
So the net kills them it doesn't trap them? 😂
@@xgtwb6473 think they die from suffocating because they can't swim / move to get oxygen through their gills (is the case for sharks at least) , and because it's so warm decomposition is much quicker than would be in cold water I'd guess.
