Actually canaries weren't put in mine shafts to sense gas, they were put there to die. Because of its size, the canary would be affected by the gas faster than a human would, so if it died, that meant there was gas and everyone had to leave lol

Yea but then some mines/miners made a little chamber where you can switch the airflow to an oxygen tank so that the canaries would be revived! It wasn’t for economic purposes or anything, they just felt bad for the birds

Miners used birds in the mines to tell if there were any poisonous gasses or any oxygen at all in the mine shafts where they were digging. A bird's respiration rate is 100x higher than a humans so the bird would die before a human would breathe in enough of the gasses to cause a fatality.
Dan, frogs were worshipped in ancient Egypt, which is why the frog in there with the pharaoh thing makes a bit of sense.
so theres a game where you have some little red monkeys in a barrel and you have to make a monkey chain by balancing them off of one another. so thats what the reference was
