Bang! 💥 Bang! 💥 Fizzle! 💤 The sounds of North shooting themselves in the foot and head followed by Future P1 made into a blank. Despite 2 very talented takes, FOMO picks were made that weren't in line with gaping holes in team balance, with better choices needing to have been made... and oh, at what draft cost! D+ considering the initial hand at trade commencement, made worse at draft day 1.
Extremely happy with how North went on night 1 of the draft. FOS is a genuine star and takes the TT position to greater effect fir the calibre of player FOS is. ☑️ The Whitlock trade is a great for what North are after. Trading our F1st unlocks the premium needed to get into the first round and more so to get the man we're after. North's been heavily linked to the Whitlock brother's fir majority of tbe year and I wouldn't be surprised if we went after Jack too tbh. Sure it's most likely a top 6 pick. BUT that's another Midfielder. North don't need Midfielders after last night so by trading our F1st for a Tall Key position utility, Norths nailed it. Especially since Matt will most likely play as CHB to release Comben into the forward line. Then they'll just rotate as Utilities do. Crème de la crème selection right there and it's the bold risk we at North must be prepared to make.
There are 3 key forwards in next years draft that assuming they continue progressing as imagined, will be better talents than this years key forward crop. You’ve just traded one of them away for the 3rd highest rated key defender in this draft….
@@eggeggeggeggeggeggeggeggprojected top 6 pick. It's a midfielder at the top end of the draft and North don't need that. Plus, North get a one year head start on any of whomever they could have gotten in 2025 draft. North got their man in Matt Whitlock. That's what matters in terms of this trade.
@@ShadowLight-kn7rl I think North could have given away all their picks and you would still find positives your just one of those supporters who is not objective by the sounds of it. Most people who follow the draft had Whitlock outside the top 20 and as the 3rd best defender, North panicked realising they had drafted in too many mids and did a god awful panic trade. FOS is a star, but you did not need another mid, keep sugar coating it though, keep telling yourself its all good we got the man we wanted all along, what a croc. Reality is some of those mids are going to get frustrated and leave due to opportunities or being played out of position. Youve likely given up a top 5 pick suggesting it would be a mid anyway in next year's draft is also wishful thinking. North had the worst night of all and most agree.
Great day one wrap. You mentioned the list of players goes beyond what will be drafted. It goes WAY beyond. There are 1044 players nominated. I was going to analyse the numbers a bit until I discovered the full list. I expected maybe around 200, not 1000+
Feels like North drafted Matt over Jack Whitlock because they intend to play him in defence? Certainly they were desperately short in that area this past season. Definitely a one-sided trade but I do think they need to get competitive sooner rather than later so they can compete with LDU/Simpkin/Xerri/Larkey/Zurhaar still in the side rather than having rising and then plateuing as those guys lose their edge - potentially also worried about taking too long and losing some of their younger talent to other rising teams.
Ok so whats north gonna do with that pick next year if they kept it? Select another midfielder in a mid draft or select a KPP and a position of need and develop them. Sure pick 2-5 is huge but considering Whitlock is a top KPP player in this deep draft, he would be THE KPP player in next years draft most likely. We'll have to see how it turns out of course
@@user-ln8we1ud9c And in 2015 Twomey had Dunkley and Rioli as the 26th and 27th (he had Whitlock as 24 this year) best players in the pool. I don't think it was a great trade but it could still end up going well for north melbourne.
What's with the "pick 27" next year thing mate? You don't think North have plans to trade that one out tonight also? What if North turn an F1 in to Whitlock + O'Farrell/Mraz/Dolan/Burmeister?
27 next year is approximately it's current value. They may be successful in doing so for sure, although I'm not sure any of those names turn it into a win for me
@@TrueFootyAFL Did you adjust pick~5 accordingly?! North's time to leave the draft cycle is now so take this next point on board from an older head...."draft pick valuations are highly dependent upon respective list development time lines". There is NO even application of draft pick reasoning which applies to 18 AFL teams at some isolated point in time. None! Brand this universal truth in to your footy mind and keep it there forever.
I'm shocked Harry Armstrong slid to pick 23, would have been happy with him with our 2nd pick, I thought it was wishful thinking he'd be there at our pick 10-11 never in my wildest dreams did I see him falling to pick 23. I heard his interviews were poor or something but does that really override the talent that much? jeez
Bulldogs don't particularly want for talls but Jack Whitlock or Alex Dodson are too good to let go. Two of the first four picks tomorrow, grab one of them and Gross or Moraes.
North Trading a future first is smart. They don't need anymore top end mids with Sheezel, Wardlaw, MCkercher, Duursma and now O'Sullivan. Next year's draft is considered much weaker and has plenty of GC academy picks at the top of the draft.
Don’t think it was smart and don’t think it was thoroughly planned. They probably expected to be able to trade down and split pick 2, and when that didn’t work, they were probably confident enough that someone much higher up the draft order would take the deal. Now it they traded a potential 2025 top 5 pick for pick 27 this draft and a 2025 second rounder. They could have waited a year and just drafted the most elite key position player/defender in that draft. What I have heard the top end is pretty elite there as well.
You cant talk about picks like that just accept that a lot of players arent available in the opne draft and never will be available in the open draft. Yes we have a bidding show but its pretty clear to see that nearly all clubs match a bid. The system is broken. North also need to change something to not become the revolving door trap of first round draft picks that gold coast have become.
Every Sydney bolter has been a failure so far (jury still out on Gus Sheldrick who must play a full season in 2025) though Bowman’s highlights reel looks good. Sydney better draft some talls tonight, or the Club is in complete denial of the weaknesses on the lost, and Beatson has to go …
I swear north melbourne hate their supperters. Midfield is stacked, backline and forward line in shambles. So we get another mid to play out of position, and then piss next year's draft up the wall to help richmond out. What a joke.
When you cant trade down you take best available, the kid we got at 27 could be great and he now got Jack Darling to teach him to use his size as he bulks up.
It's not really that crazy from a north point of view, next years draft is compromised plus north don't need another first rounder full of mids they needed a key right now and not waste another year on drafting and developing one, plus with two second rounders next year they can try trade down. Had to come a time they made a big balls move for the now.
I believe North were panicking. They couldn’t find a good deal to trade down this draft, butwouldn’t “waste” the number 2 pick on a key defender so they offered a future first, but no one was willing to trade until Richmond. So they get a future 2 rounder as well as pick 27 in this years draft. I don’t know how comprised the next draft is but there is a big chance this future first will a top 8 if not top 4 pick. That is a hefty price they paid. Both WA’s clubs have done great imo. As well as Brisbane. Bids were matched later than they should have been. And Richmond of course, although that was to be expected.
Agree North have definitely panicked, they offered their future first to everyone club that's how desperate they were, but with each rejection the deal got worse and worse till eventually Richmond accepted the deal which had become heavily lopsided against North for a player who is project player at best, what a disaster!!!! NO way North rated Whitlock at pick 10 on their draft boards either, utter garbage from north supporters trying to sooth the wounds.
@@rotuanti35 They do have 2 future 2s next year to use if they want with one likely to be the top pick in round 2 (Richmond). Likely they are going to be split up, but would be nice to grab them both.
@ I wonder if they will want to give up much more after giving away their future first. Maybe this is a line in the sands moment where they give up picks to get their people and this new chapter focused around who they have and they back them in. Fingers crossed they can make it work
@@rotuanti35 Looking at the North Melbourne list, they are pretty loaded after having tons of picks the past few years. They made their move this off-season by bringing In experience to pair with the kids. Moving out of next year's draft that is heavily compromised is not a terrible idea, but the main goal is to get those last few pieces into the side so they can get coached up, game experience and start working on winning games instead of winning the draft. I like their direction a lot and think they will finish outside the top 8.

@@LomuHabana Jagga is pretty quick himself!
@@jackwebster9246 taking the state factor out of it, would you have been as happy with Jagga as with Sid pure in terms of type and talent?
I know, Jagga might be a little bit more talented overall. But I just fell for the speed and explosiveness that Sid combines with his high footy IQ, agility and ball use skills. It’s so much fun watching him. And I believe the Blues really needed that kind of player.
North got badly tricked by Richmond, Richmond sure bent them over

The sounds of North shooting themselves in the foot and head followed by Future P1 made into a blank.

Hey Bro you should apply for the Fox Footy team that they advertised before draft. You would be great. Give it a go.
Extremely happy with how North went on night 1 of the draft.
FOS is a genuine star and takes the TT position to greater effect fir the calibre of player FOS is. ☑️
The Whitlock trade is a great for what North are after.
Totally agree

I expected maybe around 200, not 1000+
1044...that's insane! I think all delisted players might be automatically nominated? Not sure, either way that's insane
16:53 - What's going on there? 😂
Geez, that was an interesting first night after the first dozen or so picks.
Hahahaha thats me leaving my mic on
@TrueFootyAFL too funny. We'll just call it an Easter egg for those watching the video the whole way through. 😆
I would hate to not be a Richmond fan right now
Personally, I would like Port to pick up Kayle Gerryn , an athletic strong bodied ruck/forward……and Clancy Dennis (KPD) with their next 2 picks.
How much pain can a fan go through Jessie
I feel ya mate. The sun will rise tomorrow, you'll be excited by round 1!
North were warned ahead of the draft by their loyal fans, not to squander their 2025 high draft pick, which they promptly rushed off to do.
We rated Whitlock top 15, got him at 27 and have 1st pick on day 2 of 2025 draft. If we improve and can finish in the 10-14 range I'll be happy
It was a terrible trade for North Whitlock is not worth that much. Twomey had him way back.
@@user-ln8we1ud9c And in 2015 Twomey had Dunkley and Rioli as the 26th and 27th (he had Whitlock as 24 this year) best players in the pool. I don't think it was a great trade but it could still end up going well for north melbourne.
Richmond had a great day. Like there picks and the North deal. As a Roo supporter I think they over reaches. Needed something more, at least a 3rd.
If north can do something with that future second it could be a master stroke
Lol next years draft isn't considered weaker at the top where their pick will be. It's just not a super deep draft.
Apparently next years draft has a heap of elite talls, which North needs
Don’t think it was smart and don’t think it was thoroughly planned. They probably expected to be able to trade down and split pick 2, and when that didn’t work, they were probably confident enough that someone much higher up the draft order would take the deal.
Now it they traded a potential 2025 top 5 pick for pick 27 this draft and a 2025 second rounder. They could have waited a year and just drafted the most elite key position player/defender in that draft. What I have heard the top end is pretty elite there as well.
😂
@@LomuHabananorth cannot keep waiting, they need to do something now.

You cant talk about picks like that just accept that a lot of players arent available in the opne draft and never will be available in the open draft. Yes we have a bidding show but its pretty clear to see that nearly all clubs match a bid. The system is broken.
North also need to change something to not become the revolving door trap of first round draft picks that gold coast have become.
west coast make another confounding trade...I cant make sense of what the eagles are doing this off season.
How? We got pick 45 and picked the player we wanted. The only person we lost accesss to was Berry and we were never going to pick him.
North probably know LDU leaving and they will get there picks next year lol
@@ausman05 I am sure North have had better opportunities to draft a key defender over the years though
NMFC trade bunnies & nuffies, Richmond figured that early.
Wild from North. Irresponsible trading, but we all know the AFL will help them out again with priority picks in a few years
It's not really that crazy from a north point of view, next years draft is compromised plus north don't need another first rounder full of mids they needed a key right now and not waste another year on drafting and developing one, plus with two second rounders next year they can try trade down. Had to come a time they made a big balls move for the now.
What players did they get from priority picks? Enlighten me

@LomuHabana whitlock was rated 10 on norths draft board. And evidently they see higher value in getting Whitlock than a top pick in next year's,
Agree North have definitely panicked, they offered their future first to everyone club that's how desperate they were, but with each rejection the deal got worse and worse till eventually Richmond accepted the deal which had become heavily lopsided against North for a player who is project player at best, what a disaster!!!! NO way North rated Whitlock at pick 10 on their draft boards either, utter garbage from north supporters trying to sooth the wounds.
I like the conviction of the north trade. Id love to see them grab Jack tomorrow to pair up the Whitlock boys.
I don’t think Roos have a pick until like 70 or something so they’ll be at different clubs I think
Fingers crossed they can make it work
Could be top 4 pick let's not forget
@@rotuanti35 Looking at the North Melbourne list, they are pretty loaded after having tons of picks the past few years. They made their move this off-season by bringing In experience to pair with the kids. Moving out of next year's draft that is heavily compromised is not a terrible idea, but the main goal is to get those last few pieces into the side so they can get coached up, game experience and start working on winning games instead of winning the draft. I like their direction a lot and think they will finish outside the top 8.
When I saw north was trading I thought it was going to be 27 and 28 and a future 2nd they stuffed up, recon essendon should trade up for 28 to get shanahan
Your exactly right, only ones who think North trade was good are North supporters trying to convince themselves they got a good deal lol and they needed FOS when they didnt lol.
The Tauru @2-6 thing was officially revealed as absurd. Folks are overrating the North trade thing, as North had the pick on the table with plenty of other clubs that didn't want it either & Richmond had already done North a big favor when they chose a Jake Stringer clone over Finn O'Sullivan.
