- A little over a year ago, the 1890s West Roxbury Victorian was a tired-looking house. Now, it’s all dressed up and looking good. The crew and homeowners give a tour of the changes to the exterior and interior of the house which created an open and welcoming environment. This transformation took overcoming the challenges of supply chain issues and was done beautifully because of a big team effort.

This is why I cannot miss an episode of *🏡This Old House.* 😎👍
I haven't missed a single episode since 1979. By far, the most consistent thing in my entire life 😂
Masterclass of house renovation.
Been tuning in since the beginning such a class act and a blessing thanks guys
We film a lot of real estate videos and investor flips... So glad to see someone keep most the original historic architecture.
Lady of the house has a beautiful voice!
I would have liked to have seen the top rail of that shelving system put all the way up to the top of the wall, screwed into the header. Everything that missed a stud just isn't carrying much load.
Felt like the designer guy was blowing smoke the whole time but I have to eat crow on this one. The guy knows what he is doing.
@Navy1977 The kitchen has the weirdest material and color choice.
@Navy1977 yeah not a fan of the black sink, but otherwise the rest of the kitchen wasnt too bad, i will say the rest of the 1st floor was nice with the natural wood trims to keep the old house feel while still looking modern. as someone that loves both modern and old school styles they did good to sorta mix them
Black in the kitchen will show the crumbs and dust. Did it once on a Reno a decade ago. Never again
Navy1977 What did you think of Robyn and Jenn hugging? 😂😛😛😋🙃
@@mbyingtonThey won’t have to clean it. Just hire someone. You can tell it.
They did a beautiful job. I like that they kept some of the old beautiful characters.
Very good renovation and work. The only thing is, seems they wanted to cut a ton of things, for example they didn't show almost anything about the hvac system and how it works in details. Again, they did a very good job.
Stunning!!!
House looks nice. Glad they didn't put a $600 stick in the ground. Grass + patio + bed looks great.
great show
Beautiful craftsmanship , excellent eco upgrades, but for me, cold grey palette and appliances, not my cup of tea. There is some redemption in the saving of some of the warm wood tones.
Looks amazing. Hardly any resemblance to the original house. Must have cost plenty. How does TOH work with cost of project and sharing costs with the homeowner?
Good one
I would definitely do Robyn….& Jenn, too. 😍😍
Would love to know the cost breakdown!!
So I am a long time subscriber and I just want to say, the entrance bricks and the other bricks didn't look right. Love this old house....
@13:28 I thought Robyn would have pushed Jenn right onto the bed 🤣😛😋🤪😁😆😆
Original fan since 1979 WGBH Boston here.
The old-timers like Tommy and Richard can't go on forever and when they retire I think it's going to be Kevin that will hold the show together. What do you think?
i never understand the urge to modernize a kitchen to the point of parody, all those sharp lines and flat matte cabinets are gonna be out of trend in 10-15 years
theres no accounting for taste i guess! it all looks great and keeping those stairs intact was the smartest thing they could do, theyre so beautiful
How much for a renovation like this?
amazing transformation!
Cable railing is not matching with the house.
Agree
Couldn’t agree more, but I have a feeling it’s the homeowner’s dumb choice, and they just couldn’t talk them out of it. A lot of bad choices were made on this project…
IMHO this couple needed to buy a new build rather than bastardize an old house.
Not a fan either
10:31 I have this Tile in my master bath :) It's called Cubica Blanco by Porcelanosa. They did a great job! Congrats!
@Navy1977 It's a wall Tile. For the floor, I used thier Bottega Acero 47"x47"
Love it!!
Surely, they will have some type of window coverings.
Overall pretty good, little too busy with all those doors in the nook area and too far to eat. Looks confining but the windows help.
No... caved to the modern esthetic!
THE GOTHIC FAMILY
This is a great transformation. Well done to all involved.
As a side note, property programmes over hear in Britain are nowhere near the standard of TOH.
Agreed, they're all about the back story of the owners, nothing about the actual work that's done.
@@martinwright7093 Yes, exactly.
Great season! Did they say how much they spent on the overall project?
No
COVID, this show is 3-4 years old.
Anyone know what product that closet system is?
Square sinks are harder to keep clean.
I don't get how you can spend this much on a reno and not refurbish the staircase--they left it painted brown? Strip that thing!
i would not have had so many windows in the bathroom
@Navy1977 i thought they might be full crack windows 😁🤣😂
Americas energy bills must be insanely cheap to be able to run those HVACs with ducting and run them anytime they want. Costs an arm and a leg to run those in my country, can only use it on the hottest days of the year, forget about winter.
@Navy1977 Australia. my energy bill would be close to $1000 every quarter if I ran my air con/heating even a 1/3rd of the time. Even with solar panels it just costs too much.
Another builder's grade renovation with architectural mistakes like putting a sink next to a window in the kids room, that window will never be clean. And removing the original porch railing for the cheap stainless steel cable that will look outdated in a few years. Builders can't differentiate between modern and trendy.
Well, the architect was the home owner, so it's hard to believe he wasn't heavily involved with the, what's that called....planning, design, architecture, layout...you choose whichever word you want.
Very tough transformation done honestly.
I don't like that porch railing.
I just don't like those kind of railings to begin with.
I know designs are led by the homeowners, but TOH is doing a huge disservice by not educating people/the owners about embracing their old homes and heritage. Victorian houses are supposed to be "fussy". Not modern and sleek and "open floor plan". I'm glad they kept some windows and doors, but goodness, so much was taken out and it could be mistaken for a new house w/ a few salvaged pieces inserted in. So much for history. The exterior shingles were awesome - just needed stripped and painted. Now it looks flat with the new siding, especially because there's no longer shaker siding on the gable. Can we also stop using grays for wall "color"? Other than taking the hedges out of the front and redoing the brick walkway, I liked the "before" so much better.
I don’t know … I’ve been watching TOH for a long time. Quite possibly the ugliest kitchen ever done . I’m my opinion
They should have showed the mothers space.
God! will cable railings never die?!? Horrible choice for the front porch...
one day...
what's wrong with cable railings?
Must be nice to have money. ehjhh. All I can say is prepare for what coming, it ain't gunna be good
Yes. They mentioned supply chain issues because of covid. There will be no supply chains. They'll collapse for a totally different reason. It will take years to recover.
Yeah. What $400,000 will do.
Now owner have to keep really quiet. other wise, she calls cops on him and keeps the house😂😂😂
The house has a lot of horrible design choices made by the homeowners.
love is blind
For that cost you could’ve just bought a new house.
You forgot the tax difference of a tear-down vs. building on the original foundation & footprint.
How many millions did this cost?
Looks beautiful….can you show the costs, so rest of us can do it? Edit: Of course they won’t
The kitchen ughhhhhh so dark and claustrophobic
Another great example that money can’t buy taste!
They ruined the main floor of the house. It could've been updated in a much more period friendly manner. What a shame. The kitchen is particularly ugly. Why even buy a Victorian if you're just going to turn it into an ugly square box? There should be better protection for heritage buildings.
Right, what we need is the government telling people what they can do with their own property. Sounds great!
i like it, I don't often see two styles juxtaposed like this and i think it's a good take on that concept
That kitchen sticks out like a sore thumb....that's gonna age so badly :/
You have completely dumbed-down a beautiful historic home. It now looks like a generic contractor grade special. So sad😢

Homeowners should be required to wear period costume from the time period of the house.
Fortunately for me, my house is from 1948 😅
I don’t get the open shower. Wives don’t want their husbands walking in on them without a barrier to fend them off with. In general, I don’t think it’s good for a marriage, especially if the spouses look like normal people… or worse.
@Navy1977 I’m yet to meet someone who actually uses their soaking tub
@Navy1977You need privacy from your husband?? So strange.

I'm 40 and I've never met a female landscaper or a female contractor. They must have went way out of their way to get a Jenn on board. Are there a lot of people out there that think, man, I wish there was a female on This Old House?? She is very awkward.
Yeah actually. What a great way to inspire young girls to consider a career in trades.
