I am so glad to hear Ben Okri speak, he had become part of my imagination since I started to read The Famished Road, a book which I couldn’t finish ever. As soon as I read about the spirit world, I became aware that there were actual spirits everywhere I looked and they didn’t go away when I stopped reading. I saw them in my dreams and during walks late in the evening, crouching on the tree branches, whispering to each other. They weren’t friendly, they were anxious, troubled, menacing, in fact experienced spirits who could know what you were thinking. I had to stop reading this marvelous book and now, after hearing him speak, I feel really grateful that he is so tremendously courageous.

I really enjoyed this interview. The BTS as it were- the tone, the pauses in between questions and answers. Wonderful! So glad I found this on IG, and that it took me here. More please👏🏽

Nice interview!! Back in the days in Lagos in the early 1980s , I shared some friendship him and some local authors. Happy about his growth. However I am disappointed that in this interview,he refused to acknowledge major Nigerian writers such as Wole Soyinka and Chinua Achebe. Only the African American authors!!! At all the title of the novel, The Famished Road was actually derived from Soyinka's poem , Death In The Dawn !! That shows how he has distanced himself completely from the African literary milieu .

I love this interview and also the person who conducts it. She’s so sensitive in allowing Mr. Okra’s touching emotions to flow uninterrupted by jarring questions. I now must read “The Famished Road”.

To be honest, the global refugee crisis is proliferating at a higher rate. People from poor and war-devastated countries are trying to make their way into developed countries, risking their lives. They get stranded in the jungle. desert, and sometimes drowned in the sea. The miseries and hardships of their lives are beyond description. We must take proper steps to avert the refugee crisis around the world. We must provide them with food, shelter, clothes, and other basic needs when they are out of their home. Most importantly, we are bound to tackle the culprits that force people to become refugees. Otherwise, the whole world will cost it in the near future.
