Jeremy Corbyn & Ben Okri on transforming ourselves for the better

- Опубліковано 2 сер 2016
- Author Ben Okri and former Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn sat down on the Royal Festival Hall stage. The two men discussed the forces that have made them who they are, the state of the world today and their shared belief that we can transform ourselves for the better.
The day Jeremy Corbyn was elected leader of the Labour Party in a landslide victory, he spoke of some of the people who have inspired him on his extraordinary journey. He said, 'The most authentic thing about us is our capacity to create, to overcome, to endure, to transform, to love.' The author of those words was Ben Okri.
Okri responded with a poem dedicated to Corbyn, titled 'A New Dream of Politics'.

There's nothing overtly political about this. Which is good. We've got two highly literate and intelligent guys here having a free form conversation. It show Jeremy Corbyn in yet another light. I've not yet witnessed any other politician with his ethics, honesty and charisma.
I very much enjoyed.
THIS is why I support Corbyn. He speaks with real intellect and deep compassion.
he's really stupid. 2 E Grade A Levels and couldn't even finish a course in Trade Union Studies at North London Polytechnic
What great souls on the stage. Imagine if Corbyn becomes PM, imagine.
unlikely
David's comment has not aged well
This is such a wonderful watch. Just beautiful. Full of humanity and hope.
Can any other politician amount to this much humanity?
Could Teresa May even get on the stage?
Yes but it seems this audience doesn't want to discuss real issues and would rather listen to poetry.
Loyal Fire Tuts 'Real issues' get discussed all the time, we rarely get to see or hear some personal talk.
No good having good ideas if one can't implement them, and I've yet to be convinced!
utubecomment21 No Leader of the Labour party has run on a platform like his in decades and decades. Neo-Liberal Labour lost the last two elections, Corbyn is hugely popular and has a movement behind him.
Ohloveeh You haven't answer my question/concern, and that's the point, neither has Jeremy. Anyone can have a good idea!
My dad is a coach and speaks publicly all over the world. Doesn't mean he can implement a good idea anymore than Jeremy can.
Loved it, thank you.
brilliant...never heard a politician talk like this...the humanity, the empathy, the kindness,...man of the people for the people...JC
Bringing humanity back home. Beautiful.
Hey, this man is a human being.
How wonderful, thank you for a lovely conversation. ❤️Corbyn
JC will not only become PM, but he is so gifted, matured and a hero.Thumbs up to you, my man, JC.
80 seat Tory majority
One of the greatest politicians to emerge from the UK, and an inspiration to generations to come .
OMG so loved this... What a different way of political engagement... Fabulous! Loved the readings/ extracts...
Just fantastic This is what a leader looks likes
Such a beautiful interview. I wish many politicians do such interviews.
hes the most honest politician ive seen in all my life
How refreshing to listen to dialogue that explores possibilities impossible within soundbites.
BEN I LIKE THE WAY U fight back to each ...line.
They should have learned to work with him shouldn't they? They should have learned some humanity from him.
Brilliant way to spend 90 mins. Jeremy Corbyn will be Britain's next Prime Minister.
the opinion polls are grim reading for Jeremy Corbyn
Which ones? There are many in-which he's very popular.
try these out

Yet under Corbyn, they are the biggest party in Britain and Europe....
Nelson Dugluss that doesn't mean very much, elections are won by winning votes from the much greater number of people who aren't members of the Labour Party and well you know it
What a time of hope this was.
I've shared this so many times since it was made, but I was wondering if someone could add subtitles for the hard of hearing, please? I know there will be many who will appreciate it, thanks..x
I do hope the Corbyn project translates outside of London.
Wow forgot about my own comment. Ooof - how my hopes were ripped to shreds last week.
from around 20 minutes before end of conversation -
I'd add ,those early years in 20th century Russia also gave us such striking and imaginative visual artists as changed and inspired artists around the world ever since . As did early Russian films.
I know that it was nearly 50 years, but I and two other girls took both Maths and English A levels. It hadn't been planned for and we missed one double lesson of each subject every fortnight because of the movelap. That is because Maths can be regarded as both an art and a science.

And it's not me
#JC4PM ❤️🌹
One person doesn't like this
properly Teresa lol
Let's use the below trolling as an opportunity to look at the real #10pledges:
1. Full employment - 500 billion investment through national investment banks
2. 200000 new homes per year, 50% council homes - rent controls and secure tenancies
3. Collective bargaining for higher pay and a ban on zero hours contracts
4. Fully public NHS including social and mental health care
5. A lifelong National Education Service, universal childcare and free university tuition
6. Expansion of green industries and lower energy bills
7. Investment in leisure, arts, sports and transport - rail renationalised
8. Higher taxes on the rich, executive pay curbed and gender pay gap eliminated
9. Full equality for LGBT and disabled, violence against women and girls stopped
10. Human rights based foreign policy - no more aggressive interventionist wars
A politician being a politician. Nothing interesting. The disappointing thing is not only did he not respond to the deeper implications of the questions but that Ben did not even challenge him on it.
Boring.
