This has to be one of the happiest pieces of music ever written and played!! Makes me feel good no matter what might be slightly "off" in my life that day.
I eventually bought this album on CD. Who remembers CDs? Don't worry if you do because I'm actually old enough to remember vinyl record players and VHS tapes too!
Me too! I first heard this track the first time I saw a movie called 'Falling in Love' (Meryl Streep and Robert DeNiro) and I've been in love with this song ever since. It's original and beautiful tracks like this which made me create an entire Jazz UA-cam playlist for myself. Pat Metheny and Thomas Newman are amazing composers too!

I first heard this year's ago, and loved the calypso carefree feel it exudes, you can't help from taping your feet, and feeling happy you've encountered such a catchy tune, thanks Mr Grusin.
I never knew what this was called or who wrote this but this tune has been in my 📻 subconscious for YEARS and TODAY was the DAY I accidentally discovered The name and the composer of this BRILLIANTLY HAPPY TUNE‼️🙌⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🎼 🎹 I think I always thought it was from the Peanuts movies...Vince Guaraldi Trio. I am into 80's English Pop, Classic Rock, Hair Metal, Death Metal, Hard Rock, Dance, Classical and Jazz (Classic, Chill & Smooth) and out of all those different types of music THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG/PIECE OF MUSIC EVER !!!!! It makes me feel so good to listen to it.
THIS SONG IS UNDERRATED CLEARLY A TOP 25 SONG EVER RECORDED OR THAT I HAVE EVER HEARD CLASSICAL MASTERPIECE WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL THIS SONG THIS SONG IS IT
Muy buena,la estaría escuchando mucho tiempo, tenía 25 años,después la he estado escuchando muchas veces y ahora la he encontrado otra vez después de años
I still feel the same about this tune as the day when it first came out. Dave Grusin is a real genius with a fantastic, musical feel to his playing. He just Oozes melody !!
I use this song as my opening music for my radio broadcast. It is heard all over the world. When they hear this song they know it's time to take a journey with the Duchess.. Stories of faith, energy, love & spirit.
The radio Zulu programme was called ''ziyaduma egoli"" used to be driven by Ephraim Ronnie Masilela, which was introduced with this song. Its where I fell head-over-heels in love with the song.
Finally great to hear it after at least 10 years lol. Heard this in high school in late '80's/early '90s for 1st time on then Smooth Jazz station in NYC CD 101.9. Was in heavy rotation for that station's entire run till they changed formats in the early 2000's. Now after several more format changes it's now WFAN Sportsradio in 2018. Never knew name of this song until hearing it recently on Sirius XM radio. One of those songs you enjoying hearing on the drive home for a quiet ride after a long day at work.
You said it! I can't understand how I could've missed out on such delightful music! But this is what youtube does, it opens up our world to THE very best!
One of the very best from Dave Grusin. We're extremely unlikely to hear this quality of television theme music from anyone in the future. The series was great - but it was the music which collected us all into our living rooms!
I first recorded this onto cassette from the radio station KKGO 105.1 FM in 1981 and I never knew the name of it until now. Transferred it to CD in 2006. Thanx a lot for posting

After I'd heard friend's and strangers with Marcus Miller on bass, I thought I can now listen to jazz. Walla, on the same album , there was just an actual mountain dance ritual. Then, there was Rondo, if yuo hold out your hand. This is one of the best albums. The one that made me want to listen to instruments more.
Remember buying this, Bedford HMV , bought many from there, whoever was buying the records for that store was doing an excellent job , so much choice on offer , most of my record collection came from that store, circa late 70,s to mid 80,s.
This JVC digital album on a Steinway D convinced me of the superiority of digital over Sheffield direct-to-disc (Discovered Again!) on a nearly identical piano and paved my way to conversion to CDs from LPs in about 1985.
First heard Mountain Dance in the early '80s played by a Cheltenham based jazz-funk band called APO led by Paul Buck on keyboards - I was then hooked from then on to DG and all jazz-funk music - Stunning, happy jazz to brighten up your life!
This song has been a part of my life since I was 2, @ 2:36 when that organ comes in, OMG!!!!!! Thats the BEST!!!! This is also a good song to Transit/Railfan to.
I remember buying the LP because of Rag Bag and City Lights. Those tracks were getting a fair bit of airplay on the radio. But this track - there is something simply brilliant or brilliantly simple about it. Always have a place in my heart.
I loved the film too. Saw it back in'85. Deniro and Streep were great, but I also fell in love with Jane Kazmarek (?) and Harvey Keitel, and Diane Wiest - for a small movie it had some heavy hitters. If you liked the movie, you might want to watch the french version - 'A Man and a Woman' - starring Anouk Aimée and Jean-Louis Trintignant and trains and automobiles and a lot of driving. I just saw it recently and was immediately struck by the similarity in the plots.
Just rewatched "Falling in Love", very entertaining and quite different for DeNiro. However it was the music that captured me. I recognized the incomparable Dave Cousins. Such delightful music.
