I’m also a dad, and all three of my kids are adults already. So I feel confident saying that I’m older than you since I have a son who’s 32 years… old. 😫 But I have been a fan of K-pop since 1997 when Baby V.O.X. first debuted and caught my eye. Blackpink is NOT typical of all K-pop. They are at the very top of the industry for a reason. But there are a lot of very good K-pop groups and soloists out there. I’m totally comfortable being a K-pop fan despite my age, and I will absolutely NOT miss the Blackpink concert in November. My daughter and I already have the entire trip planned. We will see Blackpink in the same venue as the one where we saw G Dragon in 2017 during his MOTTE III tour. Don’t let your age interfere with music or groups that you genuinely like.

I never liked K-Pop after living in Korea for 13 years and watching a BTS video in 2020 (Not Today) got me hooked, then I discovered their Army made crack videos and fell in love with the band for each members personality and not soon thereafter I fell in love with BLACKPINK and their crazy genre-bending switch-ups all thanks to their in-house producer, Teddy. Jisoo, Jenny, Rosé and Lisa are also diversely talented, which is what makes them such a powerhouse act (watch the Netflix documentary) K-Pop has evolved a lot since 2013, but it’s somehow still grounded in 90s music, which I absolutely adore.

FYI if you like Blackpink it doesn't mean you are k-pop fan yet. It's very possible you won't find similar vibe in other Korean groups. On the other hand K-pop fans are complaining that recent BP music is bad, they don't like antidrop in chorus, "Teddy's sound" is too experimental and too far from typical K-pop songs. Not all K-pop groups perform with live band during concert tours. Not all K-pop groups have such a lovely members. But for sure there are groups with more advanced choreography, with much bigger discography with music that might sound even better to your ear. So go there, discover this new world, but don't be afraid to admit that other K-pop stuff is not really to your liking. There are many Blinks like myself who are focused on Blackpink only because there is something special and unique about this group and for every Blink for sure "Blackpink is the revolution" 🤘😊 🖤🎧💗

Your right. It's not just pop music. There is a whole lot more going on here. All the different genres, sounds and images thrown in every second. It's a lot to take in. As a western viewer, I thought it was a little fast for me at first. But I got used to all of it. It's like they're saying we have a lot to show you and we're not slowing down. You need to catch up. Readjust your viewing. I also think some of the shock is that they're asian women. We are NOT used to seeing asian women being total badasses, looking right into the camera, being tough and confrontational. We're used to seeing them quiet starring at the ground,...Only in Japanese animation do you see badass asian women. And here they are in K-pop. They are total bosses.

Well I bet there are many blinks commented below already. But let me repeat it: this is their one of their double debut songs. They were rookies but not really since they trained for many years before they debut. Many people couldn’t believe this was their 1st released song ever. They are all young and talented. On top of all, they are also the only group that all members are global ambassadors for luxury brands Lisa - Celine, Bvlgari Jennie - Chanel Jisoo- Dior, Cartier Rosé- YSL (1st in 59 years of YSL), Tiffany&Co And many other endorsements they have. It’s not just for show though. Whatever they touch or wear, it would be sold out everywhere. For real.

This was their debut release August 2016. This was after years as trainees at YG Entertainment. Jennie was a trainee for 5 yr 11 months, Lisa and Jisoo 5 yr 1 month and Rose' 4 yrs. 12 to 16 hours a day with 1 day off every other week. Each month they performed a solo, duet and group song plus a dance routine. The songs were covers but the arrangement/production was by them. These were for evaluation, poor performance! You could on your way out. An example of one of their evaluation performances is "Sure Thing" a song originally by Miguel. They did the arrangement for 4 singers plus Jennie and Lisa wrote the added rap lyrics. Its on UA-cam!!

It's like listening to some classic Elvis; he had songs that might be comparatively 'forgettable' but you KNOW his voice when you hear him. He had some AMAZING hit songs that are still big songs even now. That's good music, when people still recognize it today and love it decades after its release.
BP is the same way; this stuff will never get old because it is catchy with a sick beat that you can still dance to no matter who you are.

Lisa is youngest member and she was nineteen when the group debuted with Boombayah and Whistle (those two songs came out the same day). Lisa was born in March of 1997. That's the one who started the song and had the rap line 'Middle Finger Up...'
Jisoo is the oldest member and she was born in January of 1995; she is only just a little more than two years older than Lisa, making her 21 (and a half) at the time of debut (in August of 2016). She is the one with the pink lipstick at the beginning of the MV, making her the third to sing.

I know K-pop since 2011 and I like it in many groups, but there is something different about this girl She got my attention before debuting. I became a fan of Black Pink because of her, she's really talented and there's something different about her.😍👑
I used to see girl groups but I wasn't a fan too much, but when I saw the debut of Black Pink and saw Jennie rap in boombayah and whistle I was shocked! How could this girl be so full of charisma and talent at the same time? When she raps I was shocked she is the main rapper and queen of rap but also she is lead vocalist her voice is perfect and her dance is amazing I've never seen an idol girl like her so proud of her 🥺👑🔥

FYI if you like Blackpink it doesn't mean you are k-pop fan yet. It's very possible you won't find similar vibe in other Korean groups. On the other hand K-pop fans are complaining that recent BP music is bad, they don't like antidrop in chorus, "Teddy's sound" is too experimental and too far from typical K-pop songs.
Not all K-pop groups perform with live band during concert tours.
Not all K-pop groups have such a lovely members.
But for sure there are groups with more advanced choreography, with much bigger discography with music that might sound even better to your ear.
So go there, discover this new world, but don't be afraid to admit that other K-pop stuff is not really to your liking. There are many Blinks like myself who are focused on Blackpink only because there is something special and unique about this group and for every Blink for sure "Blackpink is the revolution" 🤘😊

Your right. It's not just pop music. There is a whole lot more going on here. All the different genres, sounds and images thrown in every second. It's a lot to take in. As a western viewer, I thought it was a little fast for me at first. But I got used to all of it. It's like they're saying we have a lot to show you and we're not slowing down. You need to catch up. Readjust your viewing. I also think some of the shock is that they're asian women. We are NOT used to seeing asian women being total badasses, looking right into the camera, being tough and confrontational. We're used to seeing them quiet starring at the ground,...Only in Japanese animation do you see badass asian women. And here they are in K-pop. They are total bosses.

Well I bet there are many blinks commented below already. But let me repeat it: this is their one of their double debut songs. They were rookies but not really since they trained for many years before they debut. Many people couldn’t believe this was their 1st released song ever.
They are all young and talented. On top of all, they are also the only group that all members are global ambassadors for luxury brands

You should check out blackpink producer Teddy when he was in a kpop boy group called 1TYM, which I was their fan back in my teenage days. :)
This was their debut release August 2016. This was after years as trainees at YG Entertainment. Jennie was a trainee for 5 yr 11 months, Lisa and Jisoo 5 yr 1 month and Rose' 4 yrs. 12 to 16 hours a day with 1 day off every other week. Each month they performed a solo, duet and group song plus a dance routine. The songs were covers but the arrangement/production was by them. These were for evaluation, poor performance! You could on your way out.
An example of one of their evaluation performances is "Sure Thing" a song originally by Miguel. They did the arrangement for 4 singers plus Jennie and Lisa wrote the added rap lyrics. Its on UA-cam!!
