    those are lovely old style harrow teeth! the only way i know to test for manganese is to forge a blade and do yaki-ire to see where the hamon falls in relation to the clay but they certainly look like a simple 10xx carbon steel which would be excellent for kama and san mai work. ...and that is a very nice vise!

    Nicely complete treatment of this controversial issue! I use scrap steel for personal tools and art projects, but for tooling I want to sell, or knives, I like to know precisely what the HT is, and I can never know that with scrap steel.
