    I was mainly a Rock fan in my younger years. Santana, Zeppelin, Moody Blues and others but still appreciated groups like Bread, Three Dog Night, Stevie Wonder, all the great Motown groups. Bee Gee's and Southern Rock. Felt like anyone who thought Carpenters were not "COOL" just didn't get it. So much talent there. As a young man, what's not to like about a beautiful woman with a heavenly voice who is a top flight drummer! Come on man!
    They would reveal themselves dancing with their girl to "Close To You" at the High School dance.
    RIP KAREN.

      You all above me certainly know the cream of the crop from the garbage out today. If we only could have another Karen the world would be smiling again and certainly listening to her without stopping. In Heaven you can bet that she can hear us and tonight and forever after you will always have a wonderful dream and have Karen singing in your ear forever. God bless you Karen you have many people happy and content again. I will never forget you and your beautiful voice which matches your beautiful heart, God bless you and thank you for all you have given to me and all who have crossed in your path. AJY

      I am sorry but I believe that you believe absurdities of music today is garbage? "Garbage "? Today just garbage. Really, I am pretty the music made today is the same path many have been brave and talented enough for the right EAR. NOT GARBAGE, BUT ART! DON'T DISLIKE THINGS BECAUSE THEY CHANGE.

    Back in the day when the Carpenters were starting out, it was considered "uncool" to admit to being a fan. Now I can say it; I love the Carpenters. Karen is my favorite singer of all time, in all genres. I'm out of the closet and loving it!

      I was one of those people who thought it “uncool” to listen to the Carpenters. Now, 50 years latter, with a broader understanding of music, I couldn’t be more appreciative for their contributions. It’s a disgrace to call their music “easy listening.” Richard’s compositions and orchestrations combine jazz, classical, pop and other elements. Karen’s voice is one of a kind and will probably be never duplicated;. The harmonies are beyond reproach. And the musicians in the band are incredibly skilled and talented. People who call this “easy listening” IMHO don’t have a very broad understanding of musical genres, and want to put everything into a rut. The Carpenters have a very sophisticated sound. One of a kind.

    Karen Carpenter. Such a beautiful young lady!! So sad to lose her so young.....she definitely was a superstar with much more to do. I think if just a few things had been different we might not have had such a tragic end. People let her down. I understand you can’t force anyone to get help, I would have gladly held her hand and helped her thru the steps of finding the right place for her to get help but how much is “too much” help?? I’m only glad she did not die alone. In a way, Karen finally got what she wanted. A true mother-daughter moment without having to be in Richards shadow.
    She looked sooo happy behind them drums. You can just see the joy beaming from her.
    You’re always in my heart Karen. You’re frozen in time a beautiful soul! 💜💜💜💜💜

      Hi Frank, I agree that she was a terrific drummer - and what a wonderful voice. Just looking at her smiles and winks to her friends and band members as she played her drums ( her 1st love) was a delight . We are all aware of how sad her life became in her last few years with a broken marriage and the eating disorder which sadly caused her premature passing. What a great loss to music and the world . I sometimes wonder what she'd be doing now and how she would sound. I wish you years of happy listening to Karen on whatever format you can. John.

    another memory that came back to me recently remembering when i met the carpenters, was besides the drum compliment i gave karen to her great delight,,,,was i mentioned i was a songwriter now......mostly lyrics.....and said its hard to get a mellody on the drums all the notes are on the same line [which in drum music they are based on the procession of beats one uses in the cadence of the score] this lovely lady laughed and said something like "you need to get a piano or guitar........." i just remembered that because i laughed and said i had just purchased a guitar. strange , but there was this group of people waiting to do an interview with her [richard was allready with them being interviewed] and she just kept looking at me with that angelic smile and every other thing said we both laughed. i remember the smile and the laughter ....and those warm eyes. i did ask if i wrote somethinf fantastic where her publishing was and if they took un-soliciated songs, she motioned to her road manager and said , i think, give him the address of the submission deoartment for songs. he looked a bit confused and said he did not have that address,,,,,,,,but had the agents business card and they could contact them, and gave me a card, .....karen said , before he handed it to m...and this is foggy , but i believe"put an astrax with a number on the package with a cassette of one song....i will get it if thats on there' ...then touching my arm , said i must go over there ....for another interview..."".dont go anywhere. just remembered that part of the meeting....i never sent a song cause i never wrote one i thought would have been her style [or face a rejection] ,,,but she kinda wanted to stay in touch. i think something clicked now that i look back.....and it was two strangers who made each other laugh for a moment, shared a love for music and the drums, and someone who saw the young woman,,,,the human being in her ....for just a moment of forever. something , besides my compliment made her happy for awhile ....and me forever. maybe i still will write that song to that "uncommon angel"

      I agree Dean.....Karen was at her peak in 1974, she had the classic "hourglass" figure..The critics couldn't fault their music, so they fixated on Karen's appearance..."big bottomed".....Anorexia Nervosa, is a psychological disorder, with severe physical manifestations... Not well understood then.....

    • @Djr67
      @Djr67 4 роки тому +2

      @@TerryDonovan so true Terry, some people say Karen's anorexia was caused by what the critics said others say it was the relationship Karen had with her mother. Guess we will never really know what caused it. Thank you for uploading so many videos of the Carpenters Terry, it's a real treat to watch these and the quality is brilliant.

      @@Djr67 ....I corresponded with Evelyn Wallace (their assistant) as a Penpal for years Dean, Agnes (Mrs Carpenter) was old school, very stern, but she sent me a lovely message once...years ago....Perfection, was a Carpenter trait, whether doing housework, or record production, or public perception..."I know I ask Perfection, of a quite Imperfect World"....

      @Djr67 4 роки тому +4

      @@TerryDonovan Wow I didn't know you had contact with people directly that knew them, I think I seen Evelyn Wallace was on one of the documentaries I seen about the Carpenters. And you got a message from Mrs Carpenter wow. I love that song 'I need to be in love" It's like Karen was singing it about herself. Karen reached perfection when she looked and sounded like she did in this video, shame she didn't think so. Sometimes the pursuit of perfection can lead to a miserable existence. Todas !! Pois ela domina todos os ritmos do pop ao samba, foi uma lástima ter nos deixado tão cedo eu tenho hoje a sua idade nascemos no mesmo mês mesmo ano, com certeza ela sempre estará viva dentro de casa coração que ama e presa uma boa canção, este legado ela nos deu de graça, assim como JESUS que nos dá a salvação da nossa alma de graça, com muita graça, como dizia Jimmy Hendrix suas canções são de ninar crianças eu durmo com as suas canções.....
