Thanks Saher. Your video is so nicely explained and presented, and you make using the Vertigo VSM 3 look so easy to use - which it is now that you've shown us how to use it so elegantly. :)
Interestingly, I own most of the brainworx/Plugin Alliance range, but just hadn't had the time to get my head around this one. You just leapfrogged me past all the time it would have taken to get my head around how to use this very nice plugin.
(I also liked the video that follows this one, and commented there too.)
Having been a musician for decades now, in my teens I quickly learned the benefit of "even harmonics" with Tube/Valve based guitar amps over solid state - And have always preferred these since the "warm" distortion I could get out of them gave such a nice tone.
Outlining the way to best use the even/odd harmonic distortion, and how to use the Vertigo VSM 3 effectively as you demonstrated, is exactly what I was looking for since I'd been using various plugins to arrive at this kind of effect, but without the precision and fine control over various aspects that it has.
I now more fully understand what some people in the music industry I know were raving about re the Vertigo VSM 3.
Just watching this has fired me up to unleash this knowledge on some tracks I'm working on! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and creating such an engaging video. This was so good I instantly subscribed to your channel just now, and will happily "devour" some more "gems" I hope are there. If there are any more videos like this one, I'm in for a feast! :)

    Is there an oversample button?

Saher, I really like the way your voice is processed. What plug ins do you use? How do you equalize or compress it? It sounds great.

For narration, I find myself using UAD's API 550A EQ (very often a couple clicks at the 12.5khz shelf and some rumble reduction with the low shelf) and FabFilter's Pro-C to level out the volume -- the settings like threshold, ratio, etc. depend on the recording itself which varies with my distance from mic, the preamp gain I've used, my actual speaking variation in volume/timbre and so on. I'd also credit the mic: Shure's KSM42. Very precise, clean mic.

I agree, your production quality is quite good. I really enjoyed your toots.

At last I can dare to use this plugin...to me, it was like learning quantum science.

I hear you. VSM3 interface looks like it's straight out of a space shuttle cockpit. Daunting, but worth it.

If that's true, I'd like to know what DAW you're using.

Is the 3rd harmonic section emulating pentode tubes?

    • @SaherGalt
      @SaherGalt  3 роки тому +1

      Yep, like an overdriven pentode

@@SaherGalt isn’t this setup essentially like or similar the black box hg2? Except the hg2 has less tweaking options

@@campar1043 Definitely a similar concept in terms of distortion scheme. Though the magic of VSM-3 is really the ability to apply a specific type of distortion to targeted parts of the mix, both spatially and in terms of frequency band.
You could setup mid-side routing and carve up the signal with crossovers, then use individual distortion plugins on each sub to achieve a similar outcome. But VSM-3 achieves all that with one instance on one track.
