Sweet! When I wrote this song in 1973, I was out of work and a bit depressed. God gave me this song to comfort me. It turned-out to be a great gift to us all. Now, I'm glad I was out of work...it gave me the time and mood to write this song:) Lenny
Just one more example of how the Lord can use what we think is a really rough time, into something He can use for His glory. This song has touched thousands (millions?) over the years. I never worked less than 70 hours a week and frequently worked 80+ hours a week, till I was suddenly disabled with multiple heart attacks. After blessing so many with some of my "spare" funds over the years, when I went to zero income, then disability income, I went into a deep depression. I felt that my "ministry" of hospitality and giving was over and that I had outlived my usefulness. Your song gave me a reason for living. THANK YOU!!!
Hey, Lenny, are you the original author of this song? If so, do you have an email that I can get in touch with you? Or, instead of you sharing yours, perhaps you could send an email to info@thencrew.com that would allow me to get in touch with you that way. :-)
Lenny, I'm not sure you will see this response, but I have heard this song with only this first verse sung here and one that says, "Out from the tomb / He came with grace and majesty/ He is alive, He is alive! / God loves us so! / See here His hands, His feet, His side! / And yes, we know / He is alive! " with a chorus of "He is alive!" instead of "Our God reigns!" I am interested to know if you also wrote this verse. It may have only originated at my bible school in upstate NY. Blessings!
On 1 June 1982, Pope John Paul II became the first pontif to conduct a public mass in my homeland, Scotland. I am not a catholic, but followed it on TV out of curiosity. As I watched, listened and was enthralled by the lovely singing of a chorus that sounded like " ... your God reigns - our God reigns." That singing has been stuck in my head ever since. Now, here I am. More than 30 years later, stumbling across this wonderful song, and I have just found out, it is based on some wonderful verses, from the most amazing book ever written. This connection has saved my soul. For me this is just one more showing of God's amazing work in my life. I should not be surprized. The Lord always amazes. I don't know who the singer is, but God bless him. The Lord has done work through his musical talent.
@@jimmys6566 Hello Jimmy. Thank you for your kind offer. Since making that post, some years ago, I have invited Jesus back into my life and am now at peace with his spirit.
@@stewartgray4301 Wonderful. I will just show you the structure of the Universal Church out of interest This little list shows you all the 24 Catholic churches, not just Latin/Roman, who are distinct but see Rome as their authority as given by Jesus. Most Protestants don't know this stuff, but google any of their names for more info. Jesus started ONE Church in AD 33 (it obviously was not the 1962 Lutheran Reformed (MS), not the CT Russell Jehovah's Witnesses, etc) and required it to have four distinguishing marks. There is another Church, the Eastern Orthodox which has developed in parallel so let's just accept that Eastern branch as being very close to the 24 Catholic Churches, but under a different tradition.
If you want to know if your church is an authentic one, just look at the date it was set up, who set it up, and you will find there are only 24 in total who are still in Union and have those four distinguishing marks . . 1 - Unity (Romans 12:5) 2 - Holiness (Ephesians 5:25-27) 3 - Catholicity (Matthew 28:19-20) 4 - Apostolicity (Ephesians 2:19-20) The 24 churches are in 4 groups GROUP 1. PATRIARCHATES A patriarchal church is a full-grown form of an Eastern Catholic church. It is 'a community of the Christian faithful joined together by' a Patriarchal hierarchy. The Patriarch together with the synod of bishops has the legislative, judicial and administrative powers within jurisdictional territory of the patriarchal church, without prejudice to those powers reserved, in the common law to the Roman pontiff (CCEO 55-150) A - The Latin Catholic Church B - The Coptic Catholic Church C - The Chaldean Catholic Church D - The Maronite Catholic Church E - The Melkite Greek Catholic Church F - The Syriac Catholic Church G - The Armenian Catholic Church GROUP 2. MAJOR ARCHEPISCOPAL CHURCHES Major archiepiscopal churches are the oriental churches, governed by the major archbishops being assisted by the respective synod of bishops. These churches also have almost the same rights and obligations of Patriarchal Churches. A major archbishop is the metropolitan of a see determined or recognized by the Supreme authority of the Church, who presides over an entire Eastern Church sui iuris that is not distinguished with the patriarchal title. A - The Romanian Greek Catholic Church B - The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church C - The Syro-Malankara Catholic Church D - The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church GROUP 3. METROPOLITAN CHURCHES Such churches are governed by a metropolitan, & are called a "metropolitan church sui Juris" A Metropolitan Church sui iuris is presided over by the Metropolitan of a determined see who has been appointed by the Roman Pontiff and is assisted by a council of hierarchs according to the norm of law" (CCEO. 1551) A - The Ethiopian Catholic Church B - The Eritrean Catholic Church C - The Hungarian Greek Catholic Church D - The Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church E - The Slovak Greek Catholic Church GROUP 4. OTHER CHURCHES IN SUI JURIS "A Church sui iuris . . . is neither patriarchal nor major archiepiscopal nor Metropolitan, and is entrusted to a hierarch who presides over it in accordance with the norm of common law and the particular law established by the Roman Pontiff" (CCEO. 174) A - The Albanian Greek Catholic Church B - The Belarusian Greek Catholic Church # C - The Bulgarian Greek Catholic Church D - The Byzantine Catholic Church of Croatia and Serbia E - The Greek Byzantine Catholic Church F - The Italo-Albanian Catholic Church G - The Macedonian Greek Catholic Church H - The Russian Greek Catholic Church

I was working from an old songbook that got the lyrics from - I'm not sure where. Actually, if one looks up the song as I found it on hymntime.com, the only common verse between what I recorded and that website is verse 1 while there are three other verses I've never read before. So, you could easily have accused me of leaving out two more verses; but why are you condemning so harshly without asking in the first place? I was simply singing it the way I read it from a book. Didn't try to leave anything out or search for how it was originally done. No cowardice charge necessary. Please watch how you write; there are more gracious ways of challenging.
