Thank you Lord God Jesus Christ, Savior of the world; for coming down to earth to be born of a virgin, to live your 33 and 1/2 years and then to obediently go to the cross and take our places, to die for our sins and washes clean with your blood that was shed on Calvary. Thank you for your Resurrection that allows us to have eternal life in glory with you, and God the Father. Thank you for your Holy Spirit that you give all of us born again believers who have put our faith and trust and you alone to save us from our sins. You had to be born to die for us all. For we all fall short of the glory of God. Praise you oh Lord God! ✝️👑💖 I am so joyful that I accepted your free gift of salvation and the work that you did on the cross and taking my place on the cross. Even so come Lord Jesus 👑❣️
This is the only online version I have found of this beautiful hymn that "does it" for me. To me, the others put too much emphasis on other vocals and/or instrumentation on what should be conveyed as one clear and direct message.. Lovely rendition. Thank you
My Mother exposed me to all these beautiful old hymns...missing her today,Easter Sunday...took us to church every service, worked full-time all week, still taught G.A.'s our age group,so she wouldn't have to leave us more....
I hunted long and hard for someone who would sing this song the way it was written to be and in the temp it was written in - This man comes the closest and this is the one I will send out. I can never hear This song without having tears all over the place - it's one of my favorites and it does not have the same effect when groups or singers try to dramatize it - and sing is so slow you lose the intended feeling and awareness of what Jesus did for us. He could have avoided ti all, BUT HE CHOSE TO GO THROUGH THIS LONG AGONIZING TORTURE AND DEATH AND HUMILIATION FOR US SO WE COULD GO TO HEAVEN AND BE FORGIVEN OF OUR SINS. He paid the price that we all deserved and He did because He loves us so much, He did not want to see any of us go to hell for all eternity. He went through all of that FOR US - YOU AND ME ! It does not need to be made into some drama by singers and this man on this video here did it right ! What Jesus did was the drama - Jesus does not need anyone to add to it or make it into some kind of act for the stage - Just do it as HE did it. Jesus is enough all by HIMSELF, He does not need to be dramatized and re-arranged by man - What Jesus went through is enough to break anyone's heart. HE does not need man to dramatize it for their own self glory - Jesus is the One who went through it ALONE - JESUS IS ALL WE NEED. HE DID IT ALL AND HE DID IT ALONE ! Just sing it as the writer of it intended as he wrote it from his heart - giving all the glory and credit to Jesus, not themselves. This is a beautiful heart-breaking song all on its own - but so many ruin it trying to put themselves into it - when it all should just be about what Jesus DID FOR EACH ONE OF US ! ====
I really appreciated the point being made in the video description that God's plan of salvation is not complete unless the resurrection of Jesus is included in it. That said, this is a beautiful, anointed hymn by someone who clearly loves Jesus and is grateful to Him for the sacrifice of His holy life. Furthermore, it is sung and played here by a man who loves Jesus and is offering up the talents he's been given as a sweet service unto his King. 🙌🙌🙌🕊️
This song was published on March 25, 2016. Three weeks later, my husband put a bullet in his head. I listened to this song so many times and found it immensely comforting. In those early days, this kind of music (soft, gentle, and yet powerful) was the only thing I could hear. A big thank you for putting this on youtube. This "suicide widow" is very grateful.
I meant to reply sooner when I first read your comment, but forgot till today. Thank you for sharing this powerful and I'm sure painful memory. My heart can't imagine what it's like - but I know Jesus Christ can. Praying He is your greatest comfort and hope.
He died alone so that we need never be alone. He bore the curse that we might be blessed. He endured the shame that we might enter the glory. He was wounded that our souls may be healed. He was hated without a cause so that we might be loved infinitely more than we deserve. Thank You Lord Jesus!
What a refreshing change to hear some of the old hymns sung so well. The lyrics are fantastic when centered on Jesus unlike the modern trend where they are centered on self.......just sayin...
salvation is about how much he loves/loved us... not about how much we love him, even though loving Him brings blessings into your life... if you are aware of how much he loves us, then you will work out your salvation with fear and trembling.... not becoming a slave to men in the music industry..... "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" why, Jesus, why... thank you!... the godlessness in the last days is revolting.. makes one into an isolated man by the very nature of the amount of ungodliness here.
I’d not heard this until hearing you sing it... what a beautiful song. I can’t help but become overcome every time I hear it. It brings home what Jesus did and what he gave up to set us free.
Love the simplicity of your songs. They bring me closer to Jesus and they are also perfect to play for my 3 weeks old daughter. (: Greetings from Spain.
I was searching for this old song hoping to find the perfect rendition. Your mellow beautiful voice was the only one that did justice to the song! Your voice was made for "He Could Have Called Ten Thousand Angels!" The words, the music, the voice, transported me to that lonely significant day in history, that Jesus died for me. Thank you for making that song live again.
Thank you my Saviour for enduring the pains and suffering to ensure the plan of salvation was completed .. you could have done away with this sinful human being but you died for me.. you died for All... thank you my King.. Jesus.. beautiful rendition
As a kid growing up my Grandmother used sing this in church Every Easter when we visited, I can still hear her Alto voice belting it out with such emphasis! To this day...still brings me to my knees. BTW I'm 62
The first time my wife and I first heard this song, it was sung by the Amigos in the Missions Conference at the People's Bible Church, Toronto, I believe it was 1976. The Pastor then was Paul Smith. Thanks be to God. I like the way it is rendered here.
Your music and singing bring my heart to the place where it needs to be for entering into worship...Thank you so much, I enjoy all your recordings!! You are a very gifted man!!
Bro, I'm mightily blessed by your ministry, i love the soothing melody and sincerity of your music - it connects me with heaven. May God bless you abundantly!
Group from Medina Baptist Church will be singing this wonderful hymn as part of the Easter service, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful hymn only hope we sound half as good as this gifted man.
I grew up with this song, probably hearing it for the first time in the late 70's. Have not heard it in a long time. Great job. The last line struck me as well, but as you say, Christ did his part on the cross, and declared that "It is finished." Our Father completed it when he resurrected Christ. Powerful song. Love your quartet of "In Christ Alone" as well.
I really appreciated the point being made in the video description that God's plan of salvation is not complete unless the resurrection of Jesus is included in it. That said, this is a beautiful, anointed hymn by someone who clearly loves Jesus and is grateful to Him for the sacrifice of His holy life. Beautiful and so comforting, well chosen and sung God Bless He went willingly and saved us and is still ministering for us in the Sanctuary above Praise God

Thank you for the reply -Ray told me he was a used car salesman at the time , we laughed and laughed . He went blind in his later years . He also wrote hallelujah square another great song . What a great day it will be when we see him again . liked your voice -keep inspiring people
Absolutely beautifully sung and what amazing words..All the Glory to Jesus..there wasn't one line centred on oneself..pure worship lovely to hear.thank you. Susie 🙌👑🙏
I get what you mean re: the last verse. But the Lord did say, "it is finished" as he died on the cross. Clearly the resurrection was the great victory...and it must remain something of a mystery to us how Jesus experienced the defeat that became victory. Thanks for this sweet rendition. I usually sing it in church acapella.....but your simple rendition is nice.
When Ray Overholt wrote this song, he wasn't saved. But he said the song he wrote lead him to Jesus. At that time in his life he didn't know the bible very well and, in order to write the song, he studied the parts that told of the crucifixion. When he read in Matthew 26:53 where Jesus said he could call 12 legions of angels to stop what was going on, Mr Overholt didn't understand that 12 legions was a total of 72,000 angels (a Roman legion contained 6.000 soldiers ). The point of the song, he said, was that Jesus willing went to the cross to save us and he though that "Ten Thousand Angels" made a better title than "72,000 Angels". Still, to me, it is one of most powerful songs ever written. It was my father's favorite, whenever I visited his church and was asked to sing, he always wanted to sing this song along with me - it was fun and I didn't think too much of it. Well, dad went on to be with Lord in July of 2016 and I sung it at his funeral - one of hardest things I've ever done. Every time I hear it, I think of my dad and tears come to my eyes - like now.
His total Victory over death and sin was assured, and NOTHING could stop His Resurrection, not all the demons and Satan himself could have stopped it. So, yes, it was "done". The total destruction of sin and unrepentant sinners is also assured. And the Salvation of those who accept Him is likewise assured. God's universe will soon be rid of sin, death and suffering because He died for us on that awful cross.
Verse 1 They bound the hands of Jesus In the garden where He prayed They led Him thro' the streets in shame They spat upon the Savior So pure and free from sin They said crucify Him He's to blame Chorus He could have called ten thousand angels To destroy the world and set Him free He could have called ten thousand angels But He died alone for you and me Verse 2 Upon His precious head They placed a crown of thorns They laughed and said behold the King They struck Him and they cursed Him And mocked His holy name All alone He suffered ev'rything Verse 3 When they nailed Him to the cross His mother stood nearby He said woman behold thy Son He cried I thirst for water But they gave Him none to drink Then the sinful work of man was done Verse 4 To the howling mob He yielded He did not for mercy cry The cross of shame He took alone And when He cried it's finished He gave Himself to die Salvation's wondrous plan was done
You said, " I'm not sure I agree completely with the last line of the last verse, as salvation's plan wouldn't seem complete without the resurrection of the Saviour;" Pastor Joseph Prince says that Jesus completed His work on the cross, but His divine resurrection is our receipt. It is our proof that He is all He said He was and did all He needed to do for our salvation and His work was complete. There is nothing that can be added. That is why we have the receipt of His resurrection.
Yes, the ultimate finish was the resurrection, but the last line is simply to say the wages of our sin is death, and Christ payed that wage with his death giving us salvation through his death. He was the lamb sacrificed for our salvation, and naturally the soul lives on. It is true that his flesh was to be the only flesh pure enough to pass into eternity, however that will not apply to us filthy rags. By the way, the song and music was absolutely beautiful.
I agree with you, as you mentioned the last sentence is incorrect as after the resurrection our dear Saviour had more to do. He became our High Priest as Heb 8:1 says, "Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the Fathers throne of the Majesty in the heavens." And what He is doing there is interceeding for us as we put away and turn away completely from sin. Rom 9:34 says, "Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. What is this work of intercession? To fully understand what Christ is doing in the heavenly sanctuary, we must have an understanding of the work of the High Priest of the ancient earthly sanctuary...for it was a type or an example of the complete plan of salvation. All those literal lambs where supposed to teach them about the Lamb of God which taketh away our sins. Instead it just became a round of ceremonies...they missed the point! But to keep this comment shorter than longer, Dan 8:14 says, "unto 2300 days then shall the sanctuary be cleansed," This cleansing has been taking place for some time now ( a whole other bible study) but David said in Ps 77:13 "Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary..." if we want to know what Jesus is doing now in heaven, and where we are in this earths history we can look to the sanctuary and the service of it....for it all points to Jesus and what was literally done then has a spiritual meaning today! We are now living in the anti-typical DAY OF ATONEMENT...this day was at the end of the year, when the High Priest went into the Most Holy Place of ask forgiveness of all sin (ever sin that had been confessed and sent into the sanctuary) and the record of the blood/sin that had been placed on the vail would be removed or cleansed!
I'm not sure what part you disagree with; my understanding of the resurrection is that it was the proof we have that Jesus work on the cross was complete and there is nothing we can add to complete our salvation. HALLELUJAH!!
My disagreement is that as Christians, we hopefully know of the resurrection and I can fill in that blank that the song leaves out; but to say that salvation's plan was done once He said "It's finished" leaves us with a dead Jesus and 1 Corinthians 15 speaks very well about how if we don't have Christ's resurrection, then Paul's preaching would be vain and our faith would be vain. I believe Christ's work on earth, doing all that God the Father told Him to do, was finished. Our hope though of eternal life, of salvation, is not just in a dead Saviour, but in a risen Saviour. Maybe my understanding of the theology is incorrect. I just wanted to point out the resurrection as that is SO critical to Christ. So unique. No other faith has a leader or god who died AND rose again. Pretty awesome.
Semantics! You are absolutely right! So fill it in. That would be awesome! There should be a way to add a little without violating any rights. I would love to hear it!! Am still looking forward to "Wonderful Grace of Jesus!" I keep checking.
Maybe I could say, I love the message of this song and if it leaves out the resurrection, then it's great to have other songs and hymns. Makes me think of the hymn with the refrain "Up from the grave He arose!" We don't have to sing just one hymn. :-)
Read Matthew 26:53. He actually could have called more than 12 LEGIONS of angels, or approximately 48,000 angels if need be. However, "ten thousand" fits the music, and would still have been ample to destroy us.
A question and a thanks. I was looking for a version of this to express why I want our church to sing it. Every other version I could find was showy and not meaningful- thank you for this thoughtful version. Question in case you see this: what key did you play in?
Thank you Lord God Jesus Christ, Savior of the world; for coming down to earth to be born of a virgin, to live your 33 and 1/2 years and then to obediently go to the cross and take our places, to die for our sins and washes clean with your blood that was shed on Calvary. A favorite hymn of mine and performed very nicely. Thank you. I liked it a lot
Excellent!
Very very beautiful.

The point of the song, he said, was that Jesus willing went to the cross to save us and he though that "Ten Thousand Angels" made a better title than "72,000 Angels". Still, to me, it is one of most powerful songs ever written. Verse 1
They bound the hands of Jesus
In the garden where He prayed
They led Him thro' the streets in shame
They spat upon the Savior
So pure and free from sin
They said crucify Him
He's to blame
Chorus
He could have called ten thousand angels
To destroy the world and set Him free
He could have called ten thousand angels
But He died alone for you and me
Verse 2
Upon His precious head
They placed a crown of thorns
They laughed and said behold the King
They struck Him and they cursed Him
And mocked His holy name
All alone He suffered ev'rything
Verse 3
When they nailed Him to the cross
His mother stood nearby
He said woman behold thy Son
He cried I thirst for water
But they gave Him none to drink
Then the sinful work of man was done
Verse 4
To the howling mob He yielded
He did not for mercy cry
The cross of shame He took alone
And when He cried it's finished
He gave Himself to die
Salvation's wondrous plan was done
very nice song. God bless you brother.

This is beautiful, probably my favorite version on UA-cam. It’s almost perfect, only thing I would say is to slow down the tempo a bit 🤍🙏🏻👍🏻

We are now living in the anti-typical DAY OF ATONEMENT...this day was at the end of the year, when the High Priest went into the Most Holy Place of ask forgiveness of all sin (ever sin that had been confessed and sent into the sanctuary) and the record of the blood/sin that had been placed on the vail would be removed or cleansed!

good song
Actually the resurrection was the sign that God was satisfied. So technically the song is correct.
How can I get the words for this beautiful song?
I try to put the lyrics to any songs here on the channel in the description and also as Closed Captions that you should be able to turn on.
Thanks so much for being thoughtful.
So beautifully beautifully performed. Did you feel Jesus by your side?
So when are you going to do that one? Another great! So many great hymns and songs, you're never going to catch up, you know. ; )
