Sorry, too many Hollywood stars have come out since then and backed up Christina, saying that they had to keep quiet then because that’s just how things were done.
Don't be sorry, be informed. Too many Hollywood stars spoke up to debunk Christina's lies including court documents where she lies repeatedly and contradicts herself. Her mom did not have a chance to defend herself in person since the money-hungry child waited to write the book.
Christina had serious issues. She once was in the Elvis crowd in LA. Elvis abruptly threw her out if his house one night after a disagree about him and his cigar in his own living room according to Joe Esposito in his book about Elvis. She was not ever allowed to be anyplace near Elvis again.
@@gracieg7601Don't you think any child that has been seriously abused will grow up with serious issues? Children don't come out of abusive childhoods unscathed.
We all seem to forget that Kirk Douglas was either dating her or happened to escort her to an event or something and corroborates Christine story. The kids were tied to their beds and he witnessed that. You also failed to mention her alcoholism and her disgusting behavior with Betty Davis. She had stopped drinking by the time she adopted the twins, so they had a much better upbringing than the two older children. The photo shoots were done by the studio and if Christine did not behave appropriately during those photo shoots she paid for it later. As always the victim gets blamed because the abuser is so charismatic and lies so easily and hides their abuse so well.
What is clearly forgotten is the little detail where only Christopher was strapped at night because he is was a sleepwalker and the house had a long staircase.
I was adopted at 9 by a fundamentalist Pentecostal in a cult and the first time i saw the movie, I was stuck in bed with crippling depression for 3 days because I had literally lived through a very similar childhood, but worse. 😢😢😢 I absolutely believe Christina.
I've read several biographies on Joan, and even the friends closest to Joan stated she should NEVER have been allowed to adopt children because she just wasn't equipped for parenting
Yet she did raise them in a time when children were actually reared so most the stuff that happened back twas normal to tie the child to the bed if they slept walked or got in the fridge late nite it was not to tie ya to the bed. She had ideas about children that made sense.
Me too. I believed every word and so it was not camp to me. Allegedly the book Bette Davis daughter wrote about her made Joan look like a saint by comparison. I hate when people say the movie was camp...because if you come from a dysfunctional family where you have a crazy, verbally abusive parent like I did then everything makes sense. "My Mother's Keeper is a 1985 memoir by B. D. Hyman, the daughter of actress Bette Davis, in which she alleges that Davis was a bullying, alcoholic mother."
I read about a year ago that HeIen Hayes and another actress whose name I don't remember, both said they witnessed Joan's crueIty to the two oIder chiIdren.
Actually it wasn’t till Joan’s long time manager came out and said the what was in the book was mostly true did people pay attention to the book. Most of Crawfords fans couldn’t believe it and made it their mission to destroy Christine’s life. Once the manager and a few other Hollywood stars came out to say they had witnessed the abuse too did the Public feel sorry for her. Joan’s first house keeper agreed with Christine but the second house keeper did not. And as you said later on in life she was a better mother. The second house keeper didn’t witness the abuse but the first one did. It was when Joan was getting help, she fired the old staff and got new as if to get rid of the old staff was washing away the past. It still took several years for the public to believe her. The movie helped but the movie didn’t portray the true abuse. The mental and mood swings Joan went through. Today we know it as bipolar or drug abuse and the public would recognize most of the symptoms. But back then, not so much and thus not believe Christine.

I believe Christina and Christopher. Often in abusive families only 1 or 2 are singled out. I believe the twins should hv split the inheritance w all of the children
Joan had many many many faults, including having a huge ego. The children were accessories. I believe Christina. She lived in that house, not the naysays. Narcissists are always charismatic and putting on a public show. The victim is always the liar and delusional and making it all upl🙄
It takes a village to raise a child and it takes a village to abuse them. Mommy Dearest terrified me. Joan should have done time. Those poor kids. My grandmother saved me from my mom and sister. Dont think my mom believed how abusive my sister was because she said I bothered my sister. I was five yrs. Younger. She told my grandmother and my dad that I bothered Carol. The scars show it all. The match burns scars on my arms and legs are awful. Momma would pour iodine on the places Carol cut me with scissors. It hurt so bad. My teachers went to the principle but my mom was also a teacher which meant being restricted to the closet. Thank God my sister got married, got pregnant, and moved home. Momma couldnt take care of all of us so I got sent to boarding school
Faye Dunaway was brilliant! Yup, the cold cream & the WIRE HANGERS!!! I saw that movie in my teens, and I tell you, that wire hanger scene embedded in my mind that it helped me pass locker inspection all the time when I was an Active-duty Marine. I would buy stacks for wooden hangers, and all of my uniforms and even civilian clothes used wooden hangers....even now, I bought stacks in Ikea.
Listen, if you research this more? You find that some of the children claim she never did any of that but also we know that theres something called "Cinderella syndrome" which is when a parent(s) pick out one child to take all the abuse. I believe that Christina was that child. Do i believe that everything happened exactly? No because she admits herself some things were exaggerated in the film. I do believe whole heartdly that she did suffer abuse at the hands of her mother. I think she was defiant, and angry and her mother wanted her full obedience.
There is always another role, so I don’t believe that a bunch of clearly staged photos are sufficient cover. Writing her two children out of her will cements her as mommy dearest. It’s one thing to write out Christina, but she vindictively wrote both the older kids out. Only cruel parents write their kids out of their will when there is plenty to go around…and she was only beloved by those who were gaining from her.
Campy? Those were some really sick abuses in that movie. It also helped me understand how much of a sick b--ch my mother was. It was validated my confusion about my own life
Joan’s secretary when Christine was little said that Joan could be very loving but was abusive to the two older children. The twins came along when Joan was grandparent age. Most adults treat their grandchildren differently than their children because older people tend to appreciate and spoil children.
They actually weren’t twins. Joan was going to get twins and something fell through last minute so they found two girls who I think either might have actually at least have been siblings, or there were just 2 girls available and similar enough in age. But that because she had wanted twins so intensely and they couldn’t make it happen in time for the adoption, Joan just decided to pass them off as twins by dressing them in twin outfits and so on
@cyng8198 cool ... their Mom was maligned en masse according to the twins. I choose to believe them and there really isn't proof not to aside from people who didn't like her. It's easy in Hollywood ... or Hollyweird as it's called now !! I love Joan Crawford's movies.
Cindy and Cathy WERE NOT twins. They were a year apart in age, looked nothing alike and were always different sizes. Joan just decided to raise them as twins.
Too many people to corroborate all of Christina and Christopher's abuse. The "twins" were NEVER really twins. She adopted 2 girls at the same time from two very separate families and made to call themselves twins. Just like everything Joan did, this was disgusting.
It was alleged that Joan had cut Christina and Christopher out of her will years before when she first wrote one out. Joan just never removed it, intending to cut her older children out all along,
@@rainocelot1349in the movie which is a telling of the book that her adopted daughter wrote she saw some clothes or a clothing item hung up on a wire hanger, she snatched it down then proceeded to beat her daughter with while saying, "nnnooo morrreeee wire hangers" the line several ppl are quoting, I'm pretty sure there's a clip on UA-cam probably
I wonder: did she hate wire hangers because of something she had done to herself in the past and the damage it caused was the reason she HAD to adopt children? Just curious and if anyone knows for sure please fill me in.
Christina explained in the book that Joan's family had a dry cleaning business or something back in the day and Joan grew up very poor. They used wire hangers there, and when she got older she saw wire hangers as a symbol of poverty and they reminded her of her childhood, so she absolutely hated them. Hence "I buy you beautiful dresses, and you treat them like they're dish rags." So to put it simply she thought they weren't a bougie enough way to store expensive garments. At least that's what I remember--it's been years since I read the book.
You have to ask yourself, why did Joan Cut them out of the will & why would her daughter make such a nasty book about her mother.... I bet its true...!!!!!
Such a sad story...the promise and appearance of love but really a private hell. That movie still haunts me as well as wire hangers. I am so glad Christina told her story.
I was young when I saw the movie for the first time. Faye Dunaway was so good, I couldn't understand she was just playing Joan Crawford. The scene where she goes off on the board members at Pepsi "Don't fuk with fellas!" My favorite 😂
Mommies dearest was one of my favorite movies, I didn't know it was based on actual facts. I felt so bad for Christia and Christopher. Wow you learn something new everyday
Of course it was.Read up on a woman named Georgia Tan.She made big money at that time and she was responsible for mistreatment of children who were not adopted.
I don't think Christina wrote the book until well after Joan's death. Christina and Chrstopher were left out of the Will and they were surprised, the book came after.
My mother's name was Joan too, and same problem. Narcissistic Joan's cannot tolerate their daughters possibly outshining them. Her mom replaced her on the set. That's evil.
I don't think she ever wanted kids but was basically forced to adopt to improve her image in Hollywood as well as help her career. I think if she could have been successful without having kids she would have gone that route.
Dina Shore told a story on her show and said she saw a baby tied in its crib when shed gone to her house. Joan said something like it keeps it in the crib. I say it because i dont remember the gender.
Joan wasn't happy about the book cuz truth would be told about how she really was so she cut them off cuz she was pissed about it.just shows how she treated them.she always missed treated Christina in one way or another.
My mom skipped the whole wire hangers part, and used the plastic clothesline on me and my brother. I had whelps all over, and a teen at church saw them when she took me to restroom. The physical abuse is bad enough, but the verbal abuse is what plays in your head nonstop when you are older. To this day, my narcissistic mother is a saint in the church and community, and I am still a scapegoat. I have come a long way, and raised two amazing kids, who I never abused. I also became a teacher and was able to recognize my abused students and get them help. I do not think I could watch this movie though. My grandmother and aunt played a crucial role trying to protect me from my mother. My dad was always on my moms side, and she made sure I could not form a bond with him.
Bro I can barely even hear the phrase "no more wire hangers" without getting..pretty upset. My mom would use it as a joke/ reminder that other people had way worse abuse than what I going through.. Until it escalated. Ugh this sent shivers over me!
No it didn't tarnish Joan's reputation...she was true super star and hell of an actress...her daughter Cristina was black balled by old timers and Joan's friends in Hollywood because of the book .
Sadly, back in those days a lot of people abused their children. They sent a message loud and clear to the daughter so that their own kids wouldn’t get any ideas

All we ever got from my dad was don't make her mad.Who knew walking in the door from school would start her off?It got to a point where she had us making her drinks after dad went to bed and I would fill the glass with liquor and a splash of ginger ale so we could go to bed and not be woke up to change the channel or make her another drink or have her go through our homework. She would want us to answer questions or essays or papers in her words and her beliefs rather than what we would answer.11 pm would roll around and we would be sleeping only to hear our names being called over and over.If we didn't hear her or pretend to be asleep we got dragged out of bed and it would be 2am or later before her tirade was done. It was better for us if I made her one of my drinks and she pass out than e up till all hours listening to her

I believe Christina and Christopher. Often in abusive families only 1 or 2 are singled out.
I believe the twins should hv split the inheritance w all of the children
CHRISTINA'S YOUNG FACE SAYS IT ALL
This is true. I watched the movie back in the day. It was scary 😳 😬.
Oh well I watched Frankenstein movie to when it first came out I guess that was true stup
It isn't true she made it up to make cash
She's a lier
Her mom was a excellent mom
@@kathydavis2764😂😂😂 Joan?
I believe in Christina. Joan Crawford followed the abusive parent's handbook. Joan hated her adopted daughter.
Joan was a horrible mother!!
Abusive and controlling.
People see and saw what's going on and people knew how Joan Crawford was and because of her stardom they wanted to keep hurt on a pedestal but a proof is in the pudding. 😢Look how she treated other people, I bet those two who got the inheritance don't have anything to say but good things it all comes out in the wash and this story should always leave no stone unturned. 👍🏽✌🏾🌞
Matching outfits do not mean joan was an "excellent mother"...i believe Christina
She looked demented.
NO MORE WIRE HANGERS!
I'm 55. I'm a huge fan of Joan Crawford. If it were not for the book I wouldn't even know who she was. It very much backfired on Christina. 😅
I believe Christina.. why else would Joan remove them from the will? Joan was cray, cray.. but l still love "Whatever happened to Baby Jane?"😊
😂 You're writing about something you know nothing about.

How do YOU know?
But that because she had wanted twins so intensely and they couldn’t make it happen in time for the adoption, Joan just decided to pass them off as twins by dressing them in twin outfits and so on
Yes they were. Christina lied about that and the twins sued her, proved it and won.
Incorrect. Look it up.
@@cyng8198 WHO is incorrect ??
I know I'm not !
@@amybugg001 Replying to the one who believes Christina Crawford.
@cyng8198 cool ... their Mom was maligned en masse according to the twins. I choose to believe them and there really isn't proof not to aside from people who didn't like her. It's easy in Hollywood ... or Hollyweird as it's called now !!
I love Joan Crawford's movies.
😅 No wire hangers in this house either.
That movie scarred me for life! That and flowers in the attic.
When your the child you can not defend yourself but as a adult you can abuse is abuse and most who suffered no ever listening till its to late 😢
Abusers put on a very good show, an actress can put on a show so well it could win a grammy!
She wasn't believed because the studio couldn't allow it. All the actors who kept quiet were terrified of being cut from their contracts.
Cindy and Cathy WERE NOT twins. They were a year apart in age, looked nothing alike and were always different sizes. Joan just decided to raise them as twins.
..."NO WIRE HANGERS, EVERRRR!"... 😂
Too many people to corroborate all of Christina and Christopher's abuse. The "twins" were NEVER really twins. She adopted 2 girls at the same time from two very separate families and made to call themselves twins. Just like everything Joan did, this was disgusting.
True. That woman was insane.
It was alleged that Joan had cut Christina and Christopher out of her will years before when she first wrote one out. Joan just never removed it, intending to cut her older children out all along,
The two children, written out of the will, got the last laugh. They made money off the book. "He who laughs last, gloats sadistically."
Nope! That woman was a beast of a woman. If you have ever been abused, that s*it never leaves you. Look at Jeanette McCurdy...
I don't own a wire this day because of evilene
can someone explain
@@rainocelot1349in the movie which is a telling of the book that her adopted daughter wrote she saw some clothes or a clothing item hung up on a wire hanger, she snatched it down then proceeded to beat her daughter with while saying, "nnnooo morrreeee wire hangers" the line several ppl are quoting, I'm pretty sure there's a clip on UA-cam probably
“Wwhhhyyyyy are there wire hangers in this closet!”!
The first time I saw this movie, I think early 1992 and the second time I just watch a couple weeks ago I like Faye Dunaway she did a great job
She was a monster
Such a sad story...the promise and appearance of love but really a private hell. That movie still haunts me as well as wire hangers. I am so glad Christina told her story.
I was young when I saw the movie for the first time. Faye Dunaway was so good, I couldn't understand she was just playing Joan Crawford.
The scene where she goes off on the board members at Pepsi "Don't fuk with fellas!" My favorite 😂
Mommy dearest was a good movie to watch I even watched it more than once
Siskel and Ebert both put thumbs down on it ...
@@JoanSmith-t7k Who cares????
Faye Dunaway WAS Joan Crawford!
Mommies dearest was one of my favorite movies, I didn't know it was based on actual facts. I felt so bad for Christia and Christopher. Wow you learn something new everyday
This movie made me cry😢
The adoption was clouded in legal controversity. Were they legal? Trafficking of children was happening even then.
Of course it was.Read up on a woman named Georgia Tan.She made big money at that time and she was responsible for mistreatment of children who were not adopted.
Aww makes me sad because that little girl looks so happy and sweet ❤
Just her eyes alone look unhinged and disturbed, I believe Joan was abusive 100%.
I loved Mommie dearest. I would watch it religiously
I don't think she ever wanted kids but was basically forced to adopt to improve her image in Hollywood as well as help her career. I think if she could have been successful without having kids she would have gone that route.
The "twins" weren't even sisters. That woman was insane.
Just because someone has money doesnt make them a good parent.....
"No-one could believe how abusive she was". Except all the people, like myself, subjected to child abuse.
She did what Christina said!!!
This movie scared the shit out of me.
My grandmother and aunt played a crucial role
trying to protect me from my mother. My dad was always on my moms side, and she made sure I could not form a bond with him.
She was not a very good mother. She was abusive
It's a shame when you adopt children and put them in an abusive situation. An expect them not to speak out .
Bro I can barely even hear the phrase "no more wire hangers" without getting..pretty upset. My mom would use it as a joke/ reminder that other people had way worse abuse than what I going through.. Until it escalated. Ugh this sent shivers over me!
This movie was one of my moms favorites.... but she also was abusive and wire hangers had a new meaning to her
Natalie Scaffer who played Mrs Howe on Gilligans Island. Confirmed Christina's facts about how abusive Joan was.
It's amazing how people can choose to not see things right in front of their faces ! Sounds like the mess we in now
No it didn't tarnish Joan's reputation...she was true super star and hell of an actress...her daughter Cristina was black balled by old timers and Joan's friends in Hollywood because of the book .
Sadly, back in those days a lot of people abused their children. They sent a message loud and clear to the daughter so that their own kids wouldn’t get any ideas
So the f up if she is a good actress, she was a p o s human & mother, acting is a fantastic career for psychopaths to hide behind
it did tarnish it pretty bad
Reminds me of Marlene Dietrich and the abuse of her daughter
😮those wire hangers !! I remember them very well myself,u never forget!! i believe her book!!😢
When her housekeeper started to pray for her out loud she said,
Don't you dare ask God to help me". Those were Joan's last words.
