Great video! I’m coming up in my first year in the ED as my first job and I definitely agree. The bonus of having the variety of MDs to interact with is you get to learn so many different ways to practice and then take what fits best for you as you gain more autonomy.
6:56 Hi Kaynen, thanks for making this. Is your pay better as a PA than when you were working as a nurse? I’m planning on applying to PA school soon but just recently learned from some of the nurses I work with that it’s possible to make more as a nurse than as a PA. And I’ve heard the whole “you shouldn’t base what you wanna do off of money,” but when you’re coming out of school with thousands of dollars in debt, planning to start a family, buy a house etc I think it’s something that should be taken into account. I was also wondering why you decided to go from nursing to PA? Hope to hear soon! Thanks
Hey, I make a lot more than I did as a nurse. I’m sure there are nurses out there who can make more than me, but they’re probably working much more than I am. Same is true from PA’s making more than a physician. There are PA’s that can make much more however that is not the norm. You will statistically make much more as a PA than a nurse. As for why I chose to head to PA school after nursing? Not too sure, I just wanted the experience, I wanted a good job while I waited for PA school etc.
Do you think that you were able to negotiate your pay as a new grad PA due to your prior nursing experience more so than a new grad PA without that prior experience? Do you think NPs get paid more than PAs due to their prior experience?
What’s the hourly range for cali n Nevada ? Is Texas hourly ranges close to those? Also is PA or NP better from ur emergency experience so far? And why? Also is there opportunities for overtime like RN? How does that work pls? 3x12s or moving around hospital to hospital . 4x10s . Can one refuse the schedule? Can you speak more in what these tiers are n it hourly ranges or differences ?also is holly in nursing school or she graduated bsn already n is a PA as well?
Hey Kaynen, been watching you videos since you were enrolled in your perquisites for PA school. Big fan. My question is did you have to do a fellowship or a residency to get your ER PA job? I heard many PAs saying that they did this because of the competitiveness of getting an ER PA job straight out of school.
Great video!

Thanks for these videos you keep posting about your thoughts on certain things and the day in the life as a PA.

And great content, very informative
biggest thing with emergency medicine is trusting your assessment

Hi! How does it work when you put in your order? Do u put it in and then the MD has to check it first? :)
What's the handgun with laser for? Do i need one of these when I get into the ED???
how vast is scope of practice at your ER? Are you able to participate higher tiered triages like the stroke and full areest you mentioned?
Would you recommend someone doing an ER preceptorship during nursing school?
Did you study a fellowship or residency to get into ER???
You do need a fellowship or residency to specialize in an area, or PA degree is enough???

NPs get paid more due to their independent prescription rights imo. Well depending on the state I guess.
Where r u working and what’s your hourly? I’m a PA in cali
hes in nevada
I think Las Vegas in particular

I am coming up on my first year in the ED. I did not have to do a residency. Definitely not a requirement. I’m sure it varies based on your location.
Okay God, I hear you.
Did you work as a cna during your nursing school? Or just for the certificate for the program
Pa school. Not nursing
Sounds miserable, go work in a rural ER with 1 or 2 other physicians.
I guess that’s the difference. Sounds fun to me
Working towards it bro thanks for sharing living my dream. 🙏🫵💪
