Wow! One of best repair vids I ever watched! I think I'm changing radiator on my 2004 Deville myself after seeing this. Love the cool calm narrative throughout. None of the usual cursing, bitching and moaning about hated engineers, lol. You're like the Zen Mechanic!! Lol
Replacing my radiator in my 02 DTS north star rn in a gas station hopefully that’s all that I need I have a new thermostat I didn’t need at the time but now after reading the comments I might put it on now.
Thank you so much for sharing this. Just today my radiator busted... Yeah just like that I woke up this morning thinking it was the thermostat. And just like that got it done 15 mins later I go grab some coffee as soon as I get home and park the radiator busted. Must be clogged so that's why I'm here. For the knowledge. Thanks brother
I’ve been having a Cadillac Seville for about 3 years now. The first time it shifts every time it jerks, and I’ve been changing a lot of parts to figure out why, then not to long ago felt something in the front of the car jerk forward, then t came to. Well its not the transmission or anything complicated like that. ITS THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS NEW MOUNTS. THAT REALIZATION ALONE PROBABLY SAVED ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. I’m still gonna put a new fuel pump and new fan blower and new condenser and new compressor but the cars going on 160,000 right now and the alternator gave out already so why not.
I found a crack today in my 01 front radiator passenger side top under the foam. Going to try marine-tex first b4 I pull it and spend a dime/time on this car. Its my daily so it will be a weekend deal. Thanks for posting this I will likely be referring to it.
Correct held for a week then started again. Replaced it...pretty easy fix have had the radiator out 3 x since then..... Fans replaced, alternator, belt... getting pretty good at it unfortunately. Ended up buying a 94 3/4 suburban for 1000 bucks as a back up. Suburban has been extremely reliable although 8-10mpg....
How do take off the computer plastic cover? I have a deville concours 1999 but that computer cover is very difficult to take off! I have tried a pry bar even that has not worked. I would appreciate if you could give me some hints on how to remove the computer cover and get the computer out of the way. Basically I am goin to replace the radiator. The car is overheating but I do not see any oil droplets in the coolant reservoir and I do not see any coolant when I pull out the oil dipstick.
Where did you get the new radiator with the adapter cause we ordered one and didn't co.e with one and we can't find one anywhere and don't know what to do.
Make sure to check the hose from the radiator since they sit on the engine it causes holes and slow leaks and could be the reason the caddies over heating.
You're absolutely spot on. I was driving on the motorway and I noticed my temperature gauge going up just a little over the half mark and going back to the middle. I immediately thought somethings not right. Amber EML flashed on the dash and disappeared. As I was slowing down to a stop, temperature went up again over the half mark. Luckily there was a fuel station just 2 mins away. Stopped and opened the hood to check in the engine compartment and guess what? I saw coolant had spluttered and splashed around the hood and front engine compartment just near the radiator I could also smell coolant. Lifted the top cover and I heard a hissing sound. When I checked closer I saw the upper radiator hose visibly touching the water pump and running along the engine had a tiny tear. There seemed to be some rubbing on the hose pipe and as the engine gets hot the hose gets burnt with heat. Luckily I had insulation tape and after the engine & hose pipes had cooled down I wrapped and taped it tightly around the split. Enough to make sure it would hold for the next 150miles or so. Checked the full length of the hose no visible cracks. Cut the story short I filled up just over half a bottle of cold water in the coolant reservoir bled excess air and off we went. Since I'm in UK we couldn't source another part similar so had to order from rock auto in the states. Been driving for nearly two weeks with the tape. Obviously I keep checking the temperature gauge, & the hose. I re-insulated it with a thicker tape and have had no issues whatsoever. Never lost coolant. Got my new part yesterday and fitted it. I used cable ties to hold the upper hose on the membrane running across the engine so it doesn't touch the engine. Cadillac engineering department had it wrong on that design.
My 01 Seville STS at 114k has a leak now. Was tough one to find only leaked parked downward on any kind of hill or slope. After a careful search it is the upper radiator neck with slight wiggle. Was hard to find wouldn't leak except for any angle downward.. It looked like a real pain to change after this have an idea now.
Do you have to go threw the same general process in order to drain the radiator and perform a coolant flush. I'm working on a 08 dts witch is a DeVille with a 4.6 I don't see any way to drain it from the bottom.
how much is the radiator? why did you have to change this? I have a leak on the passenger side somewhere I cant see where it is leaking. . . any ideas? Thank you
Good day sir. Any chance you are located in Arizona?! I have been looking for a good mechanic to work on my 02. Currently i have 147k on mine and am waiting on parts in the mail: radiator, thermostat, cv shafts left and right, steering wheel position sensor, and a fuel pump. I've already had the tranny rebuilt and my oil leak fixed. It's Big $ in repairing these cars. If you know of any good Cadillac Mechanics like yourself, in the Southwest, Tucson exactly, please let me know. I plan on keep this car I got from my grandfather 6 years ago. He bought it new, and I plan on passing it on to my family one day. Keep up the great videos! I love to see what technicians will be doing to my baby when I drop her off.
Hey man... because of u I saved myself some money on replacing thermostat on my 2001 Cadillac. Unfortunately it is still over heating gradually. What I mean by tht is tht it takes about 15 min of driving highway speed for it to overheat. And in town about the same only with AC on. Fans work. Brand new radiator thermostat and water intake gaskets. All done by mechanic besides thermostat. No water in oil either. Is it possible for the head gaskets to be bad if there is no water in oil? Also bleeding coolent system was mentioned. Have not did tht.
gladiatorunit04 did you say the radiator was replaced? Maybe check for debris in front of condenser which is in front of radiator. need to check if it is really overheating, running hot, gauge could be off, or malfunctioning too.
Wow that's the same thing that's happening to me.I watched his video and installed a new thermostat on my 2003 cadillac deville and it's still running hot.Smh.I don't know what's wrong with my car.
gladiatorunit04 I see it's been a while since you asked this question, but in case you haven't gotten it, I thought I'd weigh in. I have seen water pumps go bad on several Northstar engines and cause overheating. I would suggest flushing the cooling system to eliminate that possibility, but water pumps on those things are no joke!
This dude is clueless. It takes all of fifteen minutes to replace a radiator in a 2002 Cadillac Deville. This dummy removed ten times more equipment than he needed to to remove it. Snarf!

HAHAHAHA BTW, I'd make and post a video if I felt this project was too involved for any average mechanic.
That hood latch bracket is a bitch to get off underneath. He didn't have to take it off because he pulled the fans, first, which allowed him the room to tilt the radiator toward the motor and lift it up and out with hood latch mechanism only partially removed at the top. If he hadn't pulled the fans off, first, that would not have been possible. Bottom line: he did what he had to do. No way it's "a 15 min. job", wiseguy. @@Weiszguy1

Thanks for this video. I needed to know how to get the fittings for the oil cooler lines off.

So do a 2002 Cadillac dts have a oil cooling system with it or is it just a regular radiator
on the driver side it will have 2 lines for transmission cooler. very very few of them had oil cooling, on the pass side

On these cars, EXPECT to change the radiator by around 120K, if not before.
Hey what was the failure mode or did the radiator just start to leak? Was there a presser build up due to blockage?
what would a job replacing the radiator and hoses cost? on a 2000 Cadillac Deville dhs . the right post actually broke off and fell in the radiator.

What goes on those bolts at the of the video where you had to put thread lock lubes. Like is there any specific hose that goes threaded in
I want to make sure I get the right radiator.. I have a 2002 Cadillac Deville 4.6l base model V8 . How can I tell exactly which one I need?

2000 caddi deville overheating !! What is this oil & coolant under the passenger side?
Blown head gasket or bad radiator once ur radiator is badur oil and coolant mix as of a blown cylinder...
What was all that coolant spraying out dow at the bottom below your hands looked bad
