Assigns in my opinion are the MOST important thing to use on your way to mastering the mk2!!! So newer loopers really need to try these out! Great video esuoh you couldn't of covered it better ❤
I knew you can change FX parameters using assigns but I always wondered how to do this. Thank you for this tutorial and I can’t wait for the future ones.
This vid is about so much more than just coloured assigns - wow. Thanks! Kind of feel like you ought to rename it though, I nearly skipped it thinking I wouldn't make much use of colour coding, v glad I didn't..
The title represents this pretty well actually. I am covering assigns in this video by using the buttons offered on the loop. Which can also be changed to different colors Colored assigns!
Unfortunately I am using the first 14 assigns for my midi pedal. I wish there was an option to create more than 16, unless there is something I have overlooked?
Hey Mr. Esuoh! So i have a question, i've seen alot of loopers using assigns to change effects with one click (for example you assign track2 to change IFX A from lpf to osc bot and IFX C from reverb to EQ) and i looked through all of the settings and options and i can't figure out how to do this)
Great question! You need to go to the assigns menu. Turn on whichever assign you'd like to use. The "source" will be whichever button you'd like to use. And the "target" will be what you want the button to control. As indicated in my tutorial, I scroll through the target list and find things like "IN FX AA CTL". Which directly translates to "Input Effect Bank A Effect A Control" I have a full guide for what these mean and the rc505 mk2 manual also tells you which each does. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oCiIPQCYEcPg-k2NglhH_YxaneILrcKncppQMBsEiyg/edit?usp=drivesdk static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/RC-505mk2_Parameter_eng03_W.pdf
So tnx for these great tutorials! I have a simple question that never find any answer for it! Is there anyway to undo a parameter that changed by mistake?! Or is there anyway to undo a track that cleared by mistake?! Sometimes I change a parameter and don't forget what was the last state!
Yoo great video dude! I was wondering, can you set the knobs that are usually used to alter the effect parameters to be the "control" for the track output fx? Would be cool to be able to do a filter sweep while using the beat repeater/things like that
Hello! You can actually control pretty much everything with both input FX and track FX knobs. In the assigns, set the source as either Input or Track FX Knobs and set it to target whatever you like. You can choose certain effects to control on either input and track FX at the same time with multiple assigns
hello Mr. Esuoh ! Please help me, I can't fix the problem for more than a week. I connect a MIDI keyboard to the loop station. In the settings of the USB I put "LINE OUT" - the loop station records only the microphone, the sounds of the keyboard are in the headphones, but the loop station does not record them(((. With the "LOOP IN" settings - the MIDI keyboard is already recorded but records all the sounds from the PC and the looping effects of the station are also overlaid on the audio in the video. I tried to set the "INPUT LEVEL" from 100% to 0%, but it just completely turns off the sound from the PC and if i need to select the sound of the instrument in Ableton, then i need to turn it on again. also noticed that if I casually record some sound from my PC to the loopstation, while recording music, some micro-whistles appear in the entire track and I need to reboot the loopstation ((( please help ❤
Great tutorial but you have some kind of weird precessing on your mic that makes this hard to listen too. Is it over-compression or some kind of gating?
My apologies, I used the raw sound from my microphone. I promise my next tutorial will have better microphone quality. This video does now have English captions. 👍
First of all, thank you so much for the tutorial, it was very helpful :) But I don't quite understand why people use a lunchpad, when there are only 16 assigns, that you can also set to the buttons on the mk2. What am I missing?
Great question! People use launchpad because you can assign specific cc values. Allowing you to have infinite effect switched on one bank with 4 assigns. You can also sequence a lot of steps into osc vocoder. Way more than 16 steps in regular osc bot
Hello brother, how are you? I only have two questions.....one is how to place the volume of the rhythm on the main screen.....and the other is where is the rec count off??? because before recording I want you to throw me a drink thanks
Hello! You can adjust the volume of the rhythm in the mixer if you press enter. Or You Can press Menu, Mixer. I'm not sure what you mean by rec count off. But maybe take a look inside Rhythm Edit. Or press Loop, Rec. You might find what you need in either
subscribed. bro, how do I play one track and then make the second track play after the first track ends? i want to make a B section after playing the first part.
Hello! That's a tricky one, you would mess around with assigns so that when "track 1(example)" stops, you play "track 2". You need to mess around with other loops and assigns to get that working as well. Although I wouldn't know how to do that exactly myself. You could also sequence a long tremelo or step slicer sequence with a slow rate on both tracks. 3rd option is to set both tracks on "single" play mode. So that when you play the other track, the first one stops. I hope this helps
Witam. Dlaczego polski język nie jest dostępny w tłumaczeniu? Poproszę zatem, czy da się to zrobić? Pozdrawiam Hello. Why is the Polish language not available in translation? So I would like to ask if it is possible to do so? Best regards
Absolutely! And if you do steps at 0:12 you can save the control functions per project number(memory) as well! Meaning different LED's and functions each project slot!
I recommend going through the manual of the rc 505 mk2. This machine basically has different pages of effects that can be switched through. You can jump from 4 effect immediately to another 4 different effects (or the same effect with different parameters) It allows you to set up your loops faster
@@MrEsuoh Ah, so like a special memory section just for effects? Thanks, I will delve more into the manual soon, sometimes I get impatient with reading it and just want to do stuff….
Yes, but they can still be used as assigns regardless of what the control function is. So it's your choice if you want to change it to the "LED" function. I recommend doing whatever fits your track needs. Most the times, having it on "LED" and not the default makes navigating the machine easier.

It's actually very useful to have multiple assigns on 1 buttons. Since most of the control functions can be found in the assigns, you can either set the function to anything like you (example: reverse) and also have assigns changing effects. You can even have the function just be an LED which wont do any functions, but can still be used for assigns. I find it to be the best way to go about using Assigns + Control Functions Really the only downside is the number of assigns. We are only limited to 16
