worked great and yes i learned something, and confirmed a suspicion i have had as well. thank you much... multiple thumbs up. btw my device is sgh-i747
Well darn, sorry man I watched it again and u actually mentioned the type in vid. Is there a Philz touch for the VZW Note 4? I've searched but no luck, maybe I've missed something.
What phone are these actually for? I have the VZW Note 4. I've got TWRP Recovery installed at the moment but I like Philz touch. That's what I'm use to on my s3.
Phil. watched this video on How to Switch Recoveries (CWM, TWRP, and Philz), was wondering, are these files for all Samsung Phone's & Tablets or just a specific Samsung Phone? I downloaded the Samsung version and want to know if it will work on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3? TIA
Hi Phil, thanks for the video! I was looking some info about it and I just found it. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (GT-P3110) and I need twrk because I had some problems using clockworkmod while installing Android 5.1 and I was adviced to change my recovery system. I have the right twrk version for my device but when I try to install it there's a pop-up and it freaks me out haha, it says: "Ensure the partition listed below is the correct one for your current device... /dev/block/mmcblk0p6". I took the plunge and pressed "yes" but it said "something is wrong, flashing recovery was unsuccessful (...)". Its asked me if I wanted to attempt rebooting to recovery now and I pressed "cancel". I had no idea what to do! I kept clockworkmod and I made a backup, just in case. How can I know which is the right partition or how can I fix this problem? Thanks in advance, mate! And thanks for uploading all that info.
Hi thanks for this great guide. I don't seem to be able to point nandroid manager to the folder with the recovery images (in your case Recovery Tools SPR. When I try to choose a path (a folder in my main storage) with the app with recovery tab > Flash new recovery > choose recovery from SD-card the SD card file structure doesn't show up, only , /, and ... Any ideas ?
Can I use Flashify or Rashr Flash Tool instead of Nandroid Manager to flash TWRP img file? Now, I'm using CWM based recovery 6.0.5.1 on Galaxy S3 I9300. Waiting for ur replies. Your replies are appreciated.
My current recovery CWM v6.0.4.7 and when I try to switch it to TWRP I'm getting error: 'The recovery image twrp-3.0.2-0-a5.img cannot be flashed by this app!' :-(
Thanks for the answer, I ask if the recovery can be removed in order to have just one installed on the phone and in that way don't have unnecesary files in the phone... it's a matter of space, in my case I got a LG G2 that phone doesn't have sd card slot so the internal memory keeps all the data and the system files... but really thanks for the answer and for the video, was rellay helpful
Inside the phone's total internal storage (16, 32, or 64 GB typically, depending on the device) is used first for necessary partitions, which is why not all the storage is available to use, and one of those necessary partitions is the recovery partiton, which is just the size for one recovery file to be installed. When you 'flash a new recovery' you overwrite, not install a second, recovery over top and instead of the one from before.
I installed cwm 6.0.4.3 on my Note 2 and now when I try to install TWRP or Philz (using fastboot, heimdall, odin), even after successful installation , CWM opens up again. Please help!
I just gave it a try to your tutorial that I found very interesting but I couldn't flash any recovery method (TWRP, CMW, etc), the message showed by my S3 (i9300) was: The recovery image recovery.img cannot be flashed by this app!... by the way, there is a newer version of Nandroid Mng on PlayStore. Any idea?
always try to stay up to date with app versions, so go ahead and update it. Are you using an already rooted device, or are you trying to flash a recovery so you can root? If it's not already rooted, it won't work. Also, what version of Android is your device running, because that can make an impact as well.
Phil Bourget I'm having exactly the same issue - I cannot flash a recovery and I get the message, "The recovery image [name of recovery image] cannot be flashed by this app!"
i would like install the custom jazz ROM for my friends sm-t330nu but the instructions say to use Philz. Can I use TWRP instead since I can't find Philz for SM - T330NU on the web anywhere.
3 questions: 1. I rooted my phone using the towelroot method and since I don't have any custom recovery yet can I use this to get it still? 2. If I can: after I flash the recovery can I delete busy box and it's files (I know I'll need it if I ever want to change recoveries but I don't want it hogging space for no reason) 3. If so, will the files it downloads be deleted when I uninstall the app? I would like to apologize in advance for my nooby questions and thank you for your help
xProsHD 1. You should be able to do that just fine. 2. You should always just leave BusyBox installed so you have it if/when you need it later. Because-- 3. Busy box is NOT a huge set of files. It's less than 5MB in total, so just leave it installed for whenever you need to use it again.
Phil Bourget ok, my final question is after I install the custom recovery would it be OK to delete the folder with all the recoveries in it. I'm assuming it's ok since you can delete a rom file after it's been flashed
hey phil i try using your mated to try and open your custom recoveries file now my s3 gt i9300 is stuck at booting it wont do anything it is stuck at the samsungs logo how can i fix this phil
Hello i really need help ive done a recovery with twrp but now i have only file like boot.emmc.win and ext4.md5 and twrp can restore with that !! :/ :/

+johnfriend69 I had this same issue on HTC desire 626s. I was on CWM and then used flashify to install twrp and now no recovery. If I see an easy fix ill let ya know.
yaseen alm eldin ROM manger is specifically and exclusively for ClockWorkMod and their recovery. Nandroid Manager can help you interact with any of the recoveries that are out there, CWM, TWRP, Philz, and any unofficial ones as well. Nandroid Manager is great for managing backups, far better than ROM Manager. It just gives you more control, really. I prefer using Nanadroid simply because I like the amount of control it gives me.

I've tried to change from twrp to can. I flashed my HTC one x+ with adv and the computer said this was ok. When I tried to go into recovery, the phone just switches off. Yann Nadeau You would need to download a Philz recovery developed for your specific variant of the Galaxy S5, and use either Nandroid Manager or Odin to install it, and it should work fine.

My HTC phone is stuck on the recovery screen, nothing works so I cannot root my device .... to overwrite the old recovery with a newer version which might work do I just type into the command screen ... fastboot flash recovery opennewrecovery ... ??
anold xpunk No, backups made using one can't be used with another. Not sure if CWM can be used with Philz, because Philz is an 'advanced' version of CWM, but TWRP and CWM aren't compatible.
what woud happen if I have cmw specific rom installed on my device... My device is YU yureka... Can I follow all your steps for my device too... Plzzz rply fast...
+Prabhat Tiwari Not heard of recovery-specific ROMs, but some people recommend using a specific one because it doesn't cause a problem that another might. booting up and using your phone doesn't a specific recovery, only when you update or install it probably. You should be fine to use any that you prefer.
I flashed twrp using yureka tool from pc then installed sokp rom but now I have new problem that is my internal storage is not visible and this rom has made a 12.80 gb partition of my memory card as internal storage And I can't even access my 32 gb full space of my sd card... Plz its urgent can u help me to fix this During installatiion of sokp rom it says to format system... I did that the while installing twrp shows error that E:unable to mount storage (something like that)... So is this due to formatting of system of the fault of sokp adb drivers....... Plzzzzzzzzzz rply...

+Varun Singh I included the .apk for it in each of the download files. In each, you'll get a recovery of each kind, Odin, and a Nandroid Manager apk to install directly on your phone. Just unzip, move it to the phone, then install.
+Varun Singh In each zipped package, there's a folder for ClockworkMod, TWRP, and Philz (some don't have Philz because a version doesn't exist for them) and one of each kind of recovery file is inside that folder.
+Yoprincess Hues I don't have one, and wasn't able to snoop one out, but this link here (androidforums.com/threads/boost-mobile-tri-band-s3-sph-l710t.870166/) is a good place to start looking and asking around.

Hi....Thanks for your video... it explained me a lot.... now I have a question... say I want to remove a recovery... how can I do that... thanks..
You can't 'remove' a recovery, you can only overwrite with a new one. What would you do by removing one / what would you accomplish with it?
Thanx a billion for the education....

you don't have an OS in your in doing wipe, you must first do a backup
Okay thanks .
nice tutorial sir
does it work for s4 mini as well ?
hye is it the backup from cwm can use in twrp?
anold xpunk No, backups made using one can't be used with another.
I flashed twrp using yureka tool from pc then installed sokp rom
but now I have new problem that is my internal storage is not visible and this rom has made a 12.80 gb partition of my memory card as internal storage
And I can't even access my 32 gb full space of my sd card...
Plz its urgent can u help me to fix this
During installatiion of sokp rom it says to format system...
I did that the while installing twrp shows error that E:unable to mount storage (something like that)...
So is this due to formatting of system of the fault of sokp adb drivers.......
Plzzzzzzzzzz rply...
Will these files work on my LG G3 D850? or is this only for samsung?
***** No, you'll need recovery files specifically developed for your device. Do a Google search like 'Lg G3 D850 TWRP" or CWM and you'll find it.
where can I d.load the nandroid manager
Go to the Play Store and search for it. Free download.
Root to flash Recovery?
How can remove it and back to normal
grande stoll You would need to find a stock recovery file, and use Nandroid Manager to install the IMg file containing the recovery.
bantu saya mr phll kenapa selalu ada cek md5 apa bisa di hapis atau dihilangkan
anjar purnama An MD5 checksum is a way to make sure a specific file or files are the ones you want, and haven't been tampered with. Just a security measure.
from where to download nandroid manager?
+Varun Singh I included the .apk for it in each of the download files. In each, you'll get a recovery of each kind, Odin, and a Nandroid Manager apk to install directly on your phone. Just unzip, move it to the phone, then install.
I mean how to get recpvery for my mobile
+Varun Singh In each zipped package, there's a folder for ClockworkMod, TWRP, and Philz (some don't have Philz because a version doesn't exist for them) and one of each kind of recovery file is inside that folder.
Thanks
