And on DRUMS, VICTOR LEWIS! ! ! ! Master drummer. First heard him with Woody Shaw. Made me think differently about drums after seeing and hearing Mr. Lewis.
First saw this concert on PBS "Great Performances"; Recorded at the Paul Masson WInery. Great jazz concerts. Also featured Dexter Gordon, and Carmen McRae, if my memory serves me. Circa 1980?
Thanks for posting. I enjoy any and every video/audio by Stan. I have a couple of tapes which I recorded off the TV and radio way back when of Stan. I believe one is from the White House.
Lars Gullin should have been there, then, with Getz. Great performance by "bad guy" Gets here, anyway :-) He was a genious, and even better 5 years later.
Steve Allen was indeed a genius in his own right in the music he often featured !!!

Woody Shaw made think differently about music. So harmonically fascinating like Kenny Garrett.

This is GOLD....Victor Lewis, what more can I say ?
Master tenor with the great lineup musicians!
KILLER piano solo! Jim McNealy is one bad man.
victor lewis was one of my favorite drummers,
Still laying it down in NYC. At Small’s a couple of months ago.
Stan was one of the most fabulous tenors of jazz!!!!
The concert at the Paul Masson Winery, sometime in the early(?) 80s, IIRC.
Thank God I taped the whole concert off the TV--Stan at his greatest!
スタンゲッツは白人テナーの最高峰ですね。
ビクタールイスかっこ良い。
小気味良い、フレキシブルなドラミング好きです。
What an unbelievably fantastic pianist!!!!
Wow! These musicians are amazing!!!
Wonderful and great solos! Steve Allen too - terrific.
Great jazz.

Stupid producers
And a really nice solo. The phrases at the beginning are deep.
lmao disrespectful move with the use of a-roll and b-roll.
CLASSIC TO PUT THE INTERWIEW RIGT IN THE BASSSOLO!
Never saw stan getz dancing before haha
"Stan is good just reading' the newspaper" Miles Davis. That quote sums Stan up-just fabulous on sax and he always looked good. RIP Stan-awesome!
Gorgeous. That sweater is something else. ;) Oh the music ain't bad either :P
Wow. Serious study material.
Steve Allen could it all. Actor, musician, novelist, comedian, etc.,
Love you Stan!!!
Man the rhythm section is on fire 🔥……….Lefuj
O mestre
I think it's recorded circa 1983.
Does the sweater make Stan the first hipster ever?
👍
Bass solos are good for interview background. Sad. But the music is stratosphéric.
Go Stan!!! And that piano player, lol. FUCK.
Steve Allen! Funny...
@BBG1 would you put more from that documentary "People Time"? Is there also some footage from that last date with Kenny Baron?
We all know the sweater stole the show.
Love it....but he talked through the bass solo....AARRGGHH
many jokes haven´t been made back then.
