Out of all the tech reviewer notifications I just got about this product drop 😂 I’m super stoked that Insta360 sent you one to test and review. That was an outstanding audio test! I’m actually really impressed with how good the audio was without the wireless go setup. Of course the lav sounds better, but still not too shabby! I do real estate virtual tours and currently use the One X2, exporting raw images and the quality comes out close to being on par with the Theta Z. Was going to upgrade to the 1 inch Insta, but this has me rethinking that move. The video framing aspect will really come in handy for walk through reels. Going to wait to see if any of the YT’rs do a low light virtual tour comparison.

That's a tough call, they all sort of slot into different categories now. The 1" edition is bananas good and absolutely the professional's choice! BUT, it's not waterproof, so it won't be my every day cam. The RS is incredible because it can be a 360 cam, a 4K cam, and a 1" sensor cam all in the same system. For someone that wants 360 footage, but also really needs super high quality standard video footage, the RS is the right choice. Then for those looking for the very best 360 ACTION camera, the X3 is for them👍
I’ve been wanting a 360 camera for awhile. I heard the editing takes a little time to figure out but the final results are so worth it. I’d consider an older version just to learn how to use it and by the time I figure it out, it’ll probably be time to get an X4.

72 megaPixels sounds great, but this camera produces 18 megaPixels images. I believe they use pixel binning, where 4 pixels are used to create one larger pixel (the four pixels gather more light that way). The large screen is really wonderful. I recently filmed a whole day with the wrong white balance (3200K), just because I couldn't see the settings in the bright sunlight. The larger screen might have prevented me from using the wrong setting.
Interesting BommeltjeNL, how do you get to the 18 megapixel figure? Sounds like you might know some more of the tech behind these cameras. As for the touchscreen, that's for sure the biggest user experience jump that you feel moving to this camera. The Me Mode and 4K Single Lens modes are pretty dope too!
I think either LG or HTC smart phones was using that or similar technology in their camera phones at one time, I rememeber it being described as you described here, the biggest pro being the improved quality of photos/videoes in lower light situations, because as you said the mega megapixels(4/1 ratio) are capable of capturing more light.
72 divided by 4 equals 18 mp. Compare the image with the One RS 1-inch 360 edition. The photo quality of the X3 should be 3,5 times sharper, but it's nearly just as sharp as the other camera.

Thanks, much helpful. I have to point out that a remote control us a MUST for photo mode, or a 360 camera on stick is useless. Hope a good accessory is on the way!
Awesome video. Thanks for this review. I am an Uber driver and one of my passengers stole my One X2. Very discouraged 😭. But now I am shopping for a new camera and I think it will be the Insta360 X3
I’ve seen so many videos on the Insta360 X3 because I’m looking to buy it but your video is by far the most informative. Learned a lot of new things, thank you for sharing.
Lol yes just purchased but didn't see screen protectors as well. Hope they come out or Amazon pushes it out for us soon. 😮💨 Thanks for the video, great as always!
Nice step up. What's with the 9:16 ratio in 4k mode. Surely most people are going to want 16:9 so do you then have to mount it horizontally instead of vertically?
On another note - I think I've been fed nearly 30 reviews on this camera and I trust yours most because I know you actually use it and others I know have not before this.
Hi David, Thanks for your video on the Insta 360 camera, So much information to think about, only problem is the Repeating background music that sounds like 10 to 20 notes over and over and over.
I don't currently own any action type camera. I use my phone for everything. Family videos/pictures. Would you recommend going with a 360 cam like this or a gopro/dji action camera?
I thought you were Mark Rober doing another tech review. I own the insta360 One X2. It's been doing alright, only used it a few times for moving scenic shots. Thinking of upgrading.
I had the X1 dropped it twice (riding EUC’s) went to One R then fell and scratched that also. Just got an X2 two weeks ago right before this X3 dropped so I guess I’m gonna wait a little to upgrade but I love them all. Just too costly when dropped especially when scratched 😢
How about overheating? How long can it record? How the timelapse works? Is it similar to GoPro timewarp? Meaning, in camera speed up recording with full stabilization? Does it have all features that normal video recording have in that camera? If it is 8K, then to which resolution is it mapped for the flat video? Does the camera have GPS? What meta data are available from the camera footage?
The Rode sound system for the 3X was dramatic. Great sound. but in a way, natural sound gives a real element to the video clip. Maybe Rode best for serious narration. Yes?
Would be so great if you would do an Accessory/Mount Guide for Insta360. I really like these cameras for a time now but I am not sure If it really can replace my GoPro. Would be cool to see all the options for recording that you can suggest. E.g when I use Mouth Mount for Surfing and clip the cam to the board when I am not fancy to still have it in my mouth. But that’s no option for the 360
Just bought mine! From a long time GoPro user, man! I wish I had switch long time ago. Thanks for the clear explanation of everything!!! Subscribed liked bell rang..🤙
Just received my this week. I really like the different image perspectives I can capture without having to worry about where to point it, it capture everything. What I have noticed it that after a recording for 5min it tends to get warm also when transferring my images. Have you experienced any overheating with your camera?
So many action cams to choose from. This is or the upcoming Osmo Acton 3! My GP9 has been giving me issues and it's my first ever action cam and I'm ready to try others.
@David Manning…… I want to get an action camera for my camping and horseback riding trips. I’ve been looking at the GoPro 10 and the X3. Which do you recommend?
Use case is always a tricky one. For me, when I go out adventuring, I bring both a GoPro and an Insta360. I use the Insta360 when I'm filming myself doing action, or when I'm doing something where I can't think about the camera too much and just want to know that the camera is there and it's for sure getting something, I'll reframe in post. And the GoPro is for when I'm filming someone else doing something and I can give focus to framing a shot and making sure that my subject is in frame👍
Well I’m looking at upgrading my GoPro 8, it’s between this the GP 11s and the DJI 3. I’m really excited by the shoot then frame workflow of a 360, I’ve had so many missed shots on GoPros over the years.
Have an original One R, don't ever use the other lenses, only use 360 on it. Contemplating upgrading to this, I suppose the biggest upgrade would be the Me mode. Worth it?
The Me Mode and 4K Single Lens modes are super useful, but if you’re coming from the original One R, the video quality upgrade alone will be a big boost! But add in the touchscreen and battery life and I think it’s a solid move👍
That's how I feel too David. The audio on the X3 is actually really good, but I always feel like I have to include an audio section because people will ask, but the best action camera audio is recorded externally👍
I got excited when I saw this video.... I thought you had found my dream camera. I'm a vlogger on my property. I'm dying for DJI to make the DJI Action 2 with a HUGE screen like the Insta360 X3 has!! and I want one bad-a** lens on it, with screens that are always on, on two sides, so I can always see what I'm filming, weather I'm in front, or behind, or both in the same shot! -- Love your videos. Keep them up!!
How waterproof is it, are the seals better this time around? We went through 4 diffrent one x 2 cameras and they were all killed by water damage. The app is sooo much better than the gopro app but the waterproof issue for us with the one x 2 pushed us over to gopro for our 360 footage. The gopro manged with filming kitesurfing sooo well, without taking on any water.
@@DavidManningvlog We are a kitesurfing school in kenya so used them a few times on a harness mount. The water always came through the battery compartment and honestly was after a few uses with every one. My guess is the higher speed crashes might have something to do with it compared to that of surfing, but honestly I've crashed much harder with the gopro max and it's always been fine. I did unfortunately lose my max 360 in deep water the other day so back in the market again for another 360 cam. I do so much prefer the insta 360 app for editing, but need the cam to last in the water more effectively.
How would you add an external powerbank and hide it in the stitchline or flat base mount a powerbank between a suction mount and the camera? I need it to run a minimum of 3 hours. Maybe a smallrig universal power bank adapter attached to, I don't know?
Thank You David. Was on the fence about getting a 360 camera and which one to purchase if I did… well, you convinced me & I used your link to purchase the Ultimate Kit and the extended selfie stick…. Looking forward to seeing what I can do with the X3… cheers. Keep the content coming…
Still undecided but great video. I tend to wonder what all the stuff is on your back wall. I recognize the kayak and a few other things. Maybe zoom in and show your studio setup. Just wondering.
I'm looking for an action camera to video my son, not myself while he competes in triathlon, swimming and crops country running. Which camera would you recommend? The insta or the ski action 3?
I have the original Insta360 One X. Have been debating the X3 or the RS 1 inch. My biggest thing was intercutting this footage in with other cameras and the fact that the edited reframed footage is only 1080 has always been a bummer. Also, the detail in the One X just wasn't close enough to my other cams. My ideal cam would be 360 that could edit down to 4k and have very clean sharp footage across the Frame. The RS 1in sensor seems like a fairly decent upgrade albeit with the same 1080P reframed output. What are your thoughts on the original One X footage compared to the X3? Is it significant enough that you think I wouldn't regret not getting the 1"? Thanks for your help! @Insta360
how can you best use insta360 x 3 while recording yourself kiteboarding? Dont want to record from behind w a harness & bar from my back w mounts from Noirmatter. Can this be done successfully on the bar or center line from the chicken loop? or perhaps further up on the LINES?
I went to a camera shop last weekend to check out Go Pro 11 & Insta360 X3. The salesman couldn’t give me any proper F&B than an ugly sales pitch BUY ANY SO WHEN YOU STEP OUT YOU GOT A NEW CAM. I left undecided, told myself i will watch your vids lol now i know which one i’d like to buy. Thanks David! Keep cool contents coming! 😊
@@DavidManningvlog very true, he just wanted a sale. No care which one i get lol. I am leaning on getting the Insta360 X3, will watch your other vids. They are helpful. Stay safe, Mr Manning!
Hey David, I bought a Insta360 One RS Twin edition last week so you can imagine my face with this new model... How do the One RS Twin (360) compares to this Insta360 X3? Thanks for the videos ;)
I'm also interested in this as I ordered the one rs just before the x3 was announced. Especially interested in the single lens mode vs the 4k boost mod (on one rs). Thanks.
I always love your reviews! I really wanted this for a Disney trip but Disney doesn't allow selfie sticks! I feel like that seriously inhibits the usage of a camera like this. Any suggestions to still get awesome footage when you can't use the selfie stick?
When I'm doing a ride, I sometimes have the X2 on a wrist mount. If you're able to stretch out the arm and hold on to the ride vehicle, you can get quite reasonable POV and reverse POV footage.
Seems like a nice step up from the OneX2, trying to find the balance in upgrading 1 action camera per year and alternating the upgrades between X series and Heros. Thinking it might be a hero 9 to 11 this year as the form factor stays the same, so media mod isn't an issue, and then doing Insta upgrade next year
GoPro has been putting all their cameras on different sales over the past couple weeks. I’m assuming they’re coming out with the Hero 11 this month but hopefully the MAX 2. I’m going to wait to see the specs on that but the workflow of the Insta360 editing software puts GoPro Quick to shame. If they don’t come out with some really impressive improvements to both hardware and software, I may make the switch to Insta360 (as a life-long GoPro fan and user)
This is why I hate my brothers Gopro. Their software is garbage, and if you just import the raw files onto a PC it cuts the video up into like 15min segments. why? Just for those reasons I can never own a Gopro. That and the UI on the camera is just dumb too.
Is there a cell phone Mount that can connect to the GoPro shoes? The ones that have the sticky tape. I want to be able to attach my GoPro or attach an iPhone without having to remove the sticky Mount.
I've got two Insta360 cameras: Insta360 One & Insta360 One X. Neither of these cameras have a display that I can read if outside, even in shade. That was the biggest drawback. The smart-phone apps interface was poorly designed that left me wondering what how to use it. There was no usable documentation that I could find. Now that I can edit the 360 video in Davinci Resolve (after installing a plugin), I have actually gotten some use of the One X. I had sworn to myself that I would never buy anything again from Insta360, this video plus the one by Philip Bloom has made me consider the Insta360 X3 mostly due to the larger screen that might be readable. I like the idea of using it when we travel. I can hold it up and forget about it. Later I can pick the shot I want. I don't what to have my head glued to a camera and not actually enjoy the sites and companionship while being there. So thanks for the review. That's why I'm *SUBSCRIBED!*
I think the number 1 thing that needs to be shown on this is the underwater footage without needing a case. Every 360 cam I've ever had needed a globe to work underwater and this doesn't need it ? THATS INSANE !!! YET NO ONE IS MAKING VIDEOS ABOUT IT lol.
You're exactly right, the screen is for sure a battery heavy element. But you can set the screen to sleep after a minute or so to save battery life. When I'm filming 360 or Me Mode, I'm not looking at the screen at all, so having it sleep is ideal and extends record time👍
Hi David thank you just bought my 360 x3 today so looking at as much info as i can get fortunately i go the rode go and the rode go 2 can you tell me what was the angle adapter you used to put ontop of the stick to mount the mic onto cant find one anywhere here in the UK
14:45 They can probably have a lower quality, smaller screen and have physical buttons to go through the menu. They can have a stronger screen, maybe even a scratch resistant screen and it solves the issue of being unable to go through the menu while underwater. Touch screen isn't really needed on this thing anyways. It's an action cam for god's sake, not a phone.
I just saw this camera and I am really hooked. I never really owned an action camera or a DSLR. But I really liked this one and I am thinking of getting one. What is the advice for the beginners? How is the battery life and recording time for this X3?
Great review of the Insta X3. I had actually never heard of this brand but a friend of mine who is heavy into photography mentioned it. I'm always wanting to branch out and do more outside and action footage for out YT videos (especially now that we've moved to Thailand). I've never had an action camera but this one might make me take the plunge. Thanks!
If you're looking for a camera to give you some really unique shots and angles, this is absolutely the way to go! The X3 is bananas good! Gotta be careful with the lenses, but other than that, it's my favorite!
I only have two hands, I'm holding a fly rod in one hand and a landing net in the other hand, and I want to video the capture. Is there any way I can do this with the x3 Insta 360 camera
If you're mainly filming YOURSELF doing the action, then 360 is the way to go. If you're mainly filming SOMEONE ELSE doing the action, then traditional cams are the way to go👍
Great new camera, but now the one x2 batteries dont fit anymore as well as the external microphone adapter. So now you have to purchase all new accessoires.
Thank you for the video. I'm a fitness trainer and wanted to buy an X2 for educational fitness and running content to support my business. The features you've outlined in the video have helped me decide to get the X3, as it seems very impressive and has everything I'd need for efficient creation with a more simplified process. Thanks
Thanks David super informative vid on the x3. I don’t own a 360 camera yet so I rented the one x2 and absolutely loved it. Post processing on the Insta360 is on another level. Super easy to figure out and I ended up with some awesome content post my hike. Definitely going to go in for the x3.
I wish Insta would jump on the Garmin Virb 360 metrics band wagon. I loved the fact my Virb 360 would connect to my HRM and record GPS, speed....etc automatically. No need to connect my phone....etc.
I have the original One X and my biggest complaint is low light perfomance, very noisy and grainy and weird artifacting. Is the X3 much better in this regard?🤔
It looks pretty sweet but I dont' know that I'd be in a hurry to upgrade my X2. I use this as an action camera and don't know how I feel about the liability having such a huge screen on it. I don't view or frame content via the screen so it's not necessary for a camera like this IMO. What I would have like to have seen is a proper detachable glass lens guard that would twist/lock on similar to how GoPro does with their cameras. The $50 premium lens guard distorts to much and the plastic cheap lens guard scratches too easily and isn't clear. If they're going to really market this as an action cam they really should be make lens protection a priority in the design.
It is our biggest touchscreen but we think it’s pretty Insta360-esque if we do say ourselves… 😉 Looking forward to that workflow video next! Show us the magic!
This is the 360 camera that finally makes me take the leap and finally gonna buy one 💯

Thanks, much helpful. I have to point out that a remote control us a MUST for photo mode, or a 360 camera on stick is useless. Hope a good accessory is on the way!
Just when I think I'm done buying action cams...along comes this video. Darn you, David! Great vid, again!
Hahaha! September is the month that keeps on giving!
Brilliant review. I have the one x2 and shoot most of my UA-cam videos on it. It is Amazing. Now this new one is such a massive awesome upgrade.
Love what they did with the sleeve. I had to do that manually on my OneX2
Agree with the touch screen issue.
Still cannot justify the upgrade.
On another note - I think I've been fed nearly 30 reviews on this camera and I trust yours most because I know you actually use it and others I know have not before this.
Had an x2, loved it but got water in it while traveling in Mexico. Recently ordered the x3 can't wait to get it.
But that’s no option for the 360
I have an Insta360 GO2, a GoPro nine and a GoPro 12 and I just can’t quite bring myself to pull the trigger on the X3, but I’m damn close!
Just bought mine! From a long time GoPro user, man! I wish I had switch long time ago. Thanks for the clear explanation of everything!!! Subscribed liked bell rang..🤙
Just got mine, should be delivered by Saturday!! 🤗
I hope you are enjoying it! I’m going to buy mine too!
This is my favorite review so far. I love that the editing will be easier. Keep up the great work.
Really tempting to buy one. Have been putting it off and don't NEED one or want to spend $400+ but I can see many uses for it.
September is always full of hard choices🤣
Nice video! Your footage using the cam is by far the most crispy I have seen in any review of this cam.
Amazing tutorial. You made me buy this camera. Absolutely Brilliant explanation.
How is the low light performance? Could it be used for astro time lapse to see the milky way move through the sky?
Have an original One R, don't ever use the other lenses, only use 360 on it. Contemplating upgrading to this, I suppose the biggest upgrade would be the Me mode. Worth it?
The Me Mode and 4K Single Lens modes are super useful, but if you’re coming from the original One R, the video quality upgrade alone will be a big boost! But add in the touchscreen and battery life and I think it’s a solid move👍
As with any action camera that I want audio on, I’ll go wireless or record externally and sync in post.
How long battery back up you never mentioned
How waterproof is it, are the seals better this time around? We went through 4 diffrent one x 2 cameras and they were all killed by water damage. The app is sooo much better than the gopro app but the waterproof issue for us with the one x 2 pushed us over to gopro for our 360 footage. The gopro manged with filming kitesurfing sooo well, without taking on any water.
Interesting, where were you getting water coming in? I take the one x2 surfing all the time with no issues. Maybe one of the doors failed?
@@DavidManningvlog We are a kitesurfing school in kenya so used them a few times on a harness mount. The water always came through the battery compartment and honestly was after a few uses with every one. My guess is the higher speed crashes might have something to do with it compared to that of surfing, but honestly I've crashed much harder with the gopro max and it's always been fine. I did unfortunately lose my max 360 in deep water the other day so back in the market again for another 360 cam. I do so much prefer the insta 360 app for editing, but need the cam to last in the water more effectively.
I’m in love with insta360, I already love the X2 and the go2, now I’m on the fence again
How would you add an external powerbank and hide it in the stitchline or flat base mount a powerbank between a suction mount and the camera? I need it to run a minimum of 3 hours. Maybe a smallrig universal power bank adapter attached to, I don't know?
Just snagged it. Love my X2. Hopefully when their next camera comes around, I get early access to do a review on it.
Thank You David. Was on the fence about getting a 360 camera and which one to purchase if I did… well, you convinced me & I used your link to purchase the Ultimate Kit and the extended selfie stick…. Looking forward to seeing what I can do with the X3… cheers. Keep the content coming…
Thanks you for your comments and review, after watching your review I am now dedicated to purchasing one as soon as I can.
@Insta360
I have a OneX but the X2 wasn't compelling enough to upgrade. this looks like a good candidate to upgrade to.
Which stick is the best to buy along with Insta360 X3?
how can you best use insta360 x 3 while recording yourself kiteboarding? Dont want to record from behind w a harness & bar from my back w mounts from Noirmatter. Can this be done successfully on the bar or center line from the chicken loop? or perhaps further up on the LINES?
Really need to see a comparison between X3 and One RS twin edition. There is not a single comparison.
Thanks for appraisal on X3 David! It gives me some food for thought to upgrade to a Insta 360. Cheers
Yeah, unfortunately a camera shop is a tough place to get good info these days. Which camera did you end up going with?
@@DavidManningvlog very true, he just wanted a sale. No care which one i get lol. I am leaning on getting the Insta360 X3, will watch your other vids. They are helpful. Stay safe, Mr Manning!
@@DavidManningvlog would you recommend putting a INSTA 360 STICKY LENS GUARD on it? Just preparing what to buy this weekend. Hope you can reply. Tnx
Great review as always mate … much appreciated…
Ey what do you reckon are the must have accessories??
Hey David, I bought a Insta360 One RS Twin edition last week so you can imagine my face with this new model... How do the One RS Twin (360) compares to this Insta360 X3? Thanks for the videos ;)
I'm also interested in this as I ordered the one rs just before the x3 was announced. Especially interested in the single lens mode vs the 4k boost mod (on one rs). Thanks.
oh man, I thought I was going to go for this camera but didnt know it produced 1080p videos once cropped. 10:52
I just bought 1 today! ive never had a gopro or anything like this, I hope I can get my moneys worth!
Thinking it might be a hero 9 to 11 this year as the form factor stays the same, so media mod isn't an issue, and then doing Insta upgrade next year
Reasonable plan. I’m glad they didn’t push the video to 8k or else I’d have to get it.
@@LifeExotics yea if the res had jumped up, I'd be all in
GoPro has been putting all their cameras on different sales over the past couple weeks.
Excellent review thanks. Also thanks for addressing my biggest concern regarding the scratch potential that still exists with the lenses.
Here's another review *_INSTA360 X3: The review for FILMMAKERS_* by Philip Bloom ua-cam.com/video/PeD_gqSuvME/v-deo.html
If you own the OneX2, is the image quality worth the upgrade 🧐
I wish they would build in an l.e.d. light ring lights slightly receded into the case around both lenses.
I used the GoPro Hero 10 without a globe or any protection for it at a water park with my niece and nephews a few weeks ago had no issues.
Is this a good camera for filming snowboarding? It's kinda bulky (for helmet mounting) and im worried how the lenses fare if you take big slams..
This is most likely going to be the first one that makes me take the jump into 360 cams!
Wouldn’t the bigger screen drain the bigger battery? So even though there is a bigger battery wouldn’t the recording time be about the same as the X2?
You're exactly right, the screen is for sure a battery heavy element. But you can set the screen to sleep after a minute or so to save battery life. When I'm filming 360 or Me Mode, I'm not looking at the screen at all, so having it sleep is ideal and extends record time👍
it dims and turns off if you want to I assume
spec says 81 min recording time on X3; the X2 spec is 80 minutes
We wanna see footage of the fall! 🙈 Great breakdown of the camera, as always! 👌
It is not necessarily an action camera. I used it to take family and travel video and the 360 degree scene allow me to do many cools transitions.
Which one do you prefer for vlog
Insta360 X3 vs GoPro Hero11 vs DJI action 3
I know the other two are not released yet
If you're mainly filming YOURSELF doing the action, then 360 is the way to go. If you're mainly filming SOMEONE ELSE doing the action, then traditional cams are the way to go👍
@@DavidManningvlog Thanks daivd for the help
Love your videos by the way
Great new camera, but now the one x2 batteries dont fit anymore as well as the external microphone adapter.
I watched a lot of reviews on this camera and review is the best!
