it is a really simple and boring answer but as he said daily practice helps a lot. I am bass player but I have been using the Marcus Miller style thumb-parallel-to-the-string style of slap and Flea's style felt so uncontrolled to me but I have spent some time with this style even though I don't like it but I got it 75% close to the MM style which is still much better imo

You should almost certainly not try to learn how to slap. Slap her so hard and so hard to use any form of music that you’re probably wasting your time unless you’ve shown a tremendous amount of talent from a young age and the way that Flea did
