How to Run a Full Monero Node Over Tor
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 лют 2024
- In this video I show you how to run a full monero node over the Tor network so you can use monero privately on all your devices without needing to keep redundant copies of the blockchain. You can run this node at home without having to pay for a domain, dynamic DNS service, or port forwarding.

As a fellow citizen, I'd like the authorities to know if you're purchasing a lot of fertilizer, firearms, or CP. I don't care if you buy drugs, but most DNM vendors only take BTC anyway.

I just noticed that Mental Outlaw is so based that his Linux distro looks like Windows XP. Great video btw!

Thanks so much for the video! We're about to accept Monero as a small business and are currently thinking about hosting our own node. Your video was very helpful for that :)
Great video, good to see you back
Thanks for this guide
You can run one on I2P as well, and I2P can be set to only allow your remote client to connect.
Nice one. My first impulse after the price drop under 100 bucks was to friggin buy at least a bit and it payed out. If there is one crypto I truly believe in it's monero because the value comes from using it and you can use it 100% as intended 🎉 so many buyer & seller who care about privacy & opsec will use it

I believe it is worth mentioning that your node isn't broadcasting through TOR this way, rather only accessible through TOR

Despite Windows not being the preferred OS for such things, it would still be great to see a guide for it, since many people run their crypto shenanigans on their everyday OS.

What do you think about Pirate chain? Isn't zksnark much better than monero solution?
What is your opinion of the recent news of Monero being delisted from various crypto exchanges? Does this really change anything for the currency?
Recent news? This has been the case for years. The go to way for buying monero has been p2p services like Local Monero or even buying a listed currency and using an exchange service to swap to Monero.
@Mental Outlaw : I have a big question for you, or for anyone. I've been researching cryptocurrency, and although I like the private transaction and free international transaction aspects, what good is it when the "exchanges" which convert between fiat money and crypto money take away a good chunk of both the user's money and privacy?
Lmao I reply with the info, youturd be like imma censor that
You don't need to use exchanges, you can but stuff with crypto, crypto is money and you should use it as so.
@@WashingtonFernandes Okay. Let's say I start a crypto wallet. The initial balance will be zero. So now how am I to buy things with crypto or use crypto when I don't have any?
@@nealthompson404 You can mine them.
@neal You then use a P2P service or an exchange to convert your fiat currency (lets say US$100) to your chosen Crypto (let's say BTC) you'll get 100 worth of BTC sent to your wallet for sending your USD100 thru the exchange

would you be willing to provide us with the public onion node url, so that your subscribers can use your node through tor if they currently can't host their own? :)
But then only the connection between your computer and your node is over tor, right? But what about the connection between your node and other nodes? Thats over clearnet then?
Bro you bricked me up showing waifus
hello friends
Thoughts?
do you really need the 180gb monero blockchain file for this to work?
is there a more memory cheap option? seems like a lot of harddrive space tbh
You can run a pruned node, which is about 1/8 of the full node. It'll work as usual, just without 7/8 of old transactions. So you'd be using around 20-25GB instead of the 180.
@@DerLuukee why isn't that the default?
@@NoNameAtAll2Security
Not for one terabyte
@@NoNameAtAll2 it would take more nodes to reach the same level of distribution.
If you start a pruned node, it will randomly select the 1/8 of transactions it wants to store. So you'd need a lot of pruned nodes to replace one full node.
However if you can't afford to host a full node, a pruned one is better than nothing 😜
Just hacking the algorithm.
Is youtube throttling your channel? I seem to never get any new videos in my feed anymore.

Someone should create a service like tor that rewards nodes with cryptocurrency, so people running tor exit nodes aren't doing it out of the goodness of their heart or the US military industrial complex

Is it worth to hodl Monero like Bitcoin? Not sure if its worth it because of its tail emission
I think monero is mostly used for anonymous transactions, rather than held as an asset.
I think monero is most secure and scarce . Bitcoin supply will remain high than monero until 2042 so the tail emission of monero is near 0% inflation. It’s a ridiculous argument made by BTC maxis to keep their nonsense going
In the long run, I think BTC will be the Credit Card of the future & XMR will be the Cash of the future.
I dont think you should HODL either one right now, but who knows ?
Nobody has a crystal ball. Tail emission is a major advantage. Bitcoin has bunch of zombie coins. Meaning after the last bitcoin is mined it will deflate, as people lose their private keys. Terrible as a medium of exchange. Monero on the other hand has an annual inflation of 0.86% right now (year 2100 it's 0.52%, year 2140 it's 0.43% when bitcoin at the latest date enters deflation).

Why use HTTP instead of HTTPS? Unless I misunderstand, isn't HTTPS more private? Isn't that one of the major selling points of monero?
Don't need https with Tor since it's already encrypted. Infact configuring Tor with https may be less secure.
