Yep, works wonderful. Restored about 10 DVDs (my old DVD camcorder doesn't work anymore) an it's super easy. In case 2 of DVDs it took 4 hours and its a bit "blocky" but these were very cheap DVDs we bought in Thailand (holiday, we didn't bring enough Verbatims). So this is great, thanks a lot, I love easy solutions! :-))
Hey, that works great! Took 2 hrs but it was worth. I had problems with scratched DVDs, but I was saw some videos here on YT how to polish them... That will be my project for tomorrow! Thanks bro!
Yep, there are a lot of DVD and CD polishing methods... Maybe I'll go and do one as well. 1 thing: if you polish it with some "device" take care as the plastic surface can get hot very quickly! That can cause even more problems than just a few scratches.... Yes, I'll do a video how to polish them correctly. Check back this weekend!
Hugeee thanks, this is more reliable than the most "recovery" softwares. I got like 7 cake boxes and some of the discs were not showing on the Windows Explorer or even showing on the video player (especially VLC), thanks to your solution I finally see what I've missed from those discs.

Thank you for presenting this process in a clear, easy-to-follow manner. I did run into one problem where the output from a section processed with DVDVOBtoMPG didn't contain any audio. I know there was audio on the original DVD. Any ideas how I might restore it?
Well, this is strange... Never happened to me. May you upload the file into some cloud where I can check it with a few different softwares? Meanwhile I recommend you to download VLC PLAYER from the official website. It's free, no ads. If you still don't have sound, please let.me know.
Here's some additional detail now that I understand what happened. Following your excellent instruction I used isobuster to produce three .ibq files. After renaming them to .mpg, the second and third played find but the first didn't appear to play, remaining stuck on some kind of menu screen. That't when I used the extra step of using dvdvob2mpg (on just the first file). The results of that resulted in a .mpg file where the video worked but didn't have any sound. Thing is, I discovered a little while ago that that first .mpg file wasn't stuck on a menu, it was waiting on a menu. Once I clicked on it (who knew .mpg files supported those kinds of things?) It played just fine. Bottom line, I don't know why the needless conversion of the first .mpg file using dvdvob2mpg resulted in a soundless video and I no longer care. :) Thanks to you, everything worked fine and I feel empowered to deal with any unfinalized DVDs that may come my way. Thanks again!
I have used BlindWrite to successfully create a CD Image from a worn or defective CD it is a very slow process 8-11 hours it can take depending on the size of the CD 650/700MB the reason it's slow is because BlindWrite is reading the contents of a worn or defective CD if it was a CD that was hardly used or kept in good condition it would take 6-10 mins...
Hello, this is a great dvd with simple instructions, unfortunately it isn’t working for me and when I click the video links it doesn’t ask me if I want to search for missing data it just gives me a list of options extract, run etc and any one I click it says I need a key and to purchase. I’ve got about 10 homemade dvds of my children and for some reason they aren’t working, I’d be so grateful for ur help? Many thanks
Both my dvd sv2000 recorders won't let me watch, record, or finalize my sony dvd-r disc with data on it. Will this software finalize the disc to play on all dvd players? if so, do i need to have a recorder RAM installed to my laptop to finalize or does it work on the normal laptop RAM? I use Windows 10
I was so excited when I found this DIY DVD+R recovery walk through. I have a DVD+R from years ago that I copied home movies from my camcorder to a stand alone dvd "Lite On" recorder in effort to preserve the memories on disc rather on camcorder mini tape. I indeed viewed the continence on the DVD a few times on the stand alone dvd player but never finalized the DVD+R disc until one day it suddenly was unreadable. I know the video is on there, I've watched it! So, I downloaded ISO Buster and right away seem to hit a snag. When I put the DVD+R in the PC DVD Rom Drive it still seems not to recognize that there is even a disc inside // Iso Buster isn't recognizing it either. Any thoughts?
I get two files, one is the video about 1.8GB and one is a 115k file. Neither are valid VOB files... The 1.8GB file does play, but lacks any keyframes so you cannot fast forward. My DVD has 3 tracks, so I am wondering if that is the reason.
This video helped me recover and copy my wedding DVD to a file. I can play it with audio in VLC player but when I create a DVD I do not get audio. Any thoughts?
Hi late answer... I tried it and it works excellent with MAGIX VIDEO DELUXE, I downloaded a cracked version from a torrent site. But older versions are cheap and they should work too.
Thank you for your video! I managed to read an otherwise unreadable disc and copy it to a folder. However I believe it has both video and photos on it. Any suggestions for separating out those individual jpgs? Thanks again!
Thank you. Great instructions. Question: After recovering the files and conversion, how do we burn them to a DVD in the order that they were before (on unfinalized DVD)? Best regards to you ;-)
Hi! This video has really helped. The only issue we are having is that we cannot change it from a IBQ to either the MPG or the VOB. When we first extract it from the ISO, it puts it in the Windows Media Player format and then won't open it... says that type of file can't be opened. I believe it stays IBQ no matter what we do. Any suggestions?
Kirsty Strain hey kirsty, I’ve found out that even after we changed the file to .vod but the icon still doesnt change to the orange cone, you’ll just have to open the file as instructed in VOB2MPG and it’ll still do the work
Thanks for the video! I haven't tried DVDVOB2MPG yet but ISOBuster is working for me (20th of July 2021). VLC media player can play the .ibq file, albeit with noticeable interlacing. Do you know anything about removing that? Thanks again!
I am so thankful but the only bad thing was it only found 1.55 minutes, the rest of the wedding wasn’t found, the video is there but won’t play because it says it doesn’t support the file even when I change it to Vob
maybe you will do another clip with best solution on unreadable sectors from dvd's . On program we have 3 options. 1. omit sectors; 2. Replace wit all zeroes; 3. Replace with dummy data.
Hi guys. I did follow all of the steps and on the end I got only one Ibp and one Ibq file. I think because of that I still can not watch this video. Does anyone know what might cost the problem? Why I only get one Ibq file instead of two?
Thanks for the video. Unfortunately I cannot extract without paying USD$59.95 for the personal license to extract Sony Handicam mini DVD files. It was worth a try though.
This worked amazingly thank you! One issue though, I've experienced that some of my discs it doesn't play sounds, is anyone else having that issue or is it just me?
@@rohanaswal4523 I actually haven't I ended up ordering the same camcorder I used to record with back then (for a fairly cheap price too), and finalized it with that
Hi Steve - Great video but after I burn the file to a DVD my DVD player will not play the video. This is a DVD player hooked up to my TV. Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi! It's not enough to burn the VOB files. A regular Video DVD has other files on the disk too, without them your DVD player won't recognize the disk. Here's what you can do: - Burn your rescued files with "VSO ConvertX to DVD" - it is a pretty nasty software unless you leave anything as it is. If your goal is to view what's on and if you do not care about fancy DVD menus, this will be fine. I'm sure you'll find an older "full version" for free somewhere on the internet, for your *.mpg files you can use any file version of the above mentioned software, doesn't matter how old it is. - You can also use a media player and copy the DVD files onto a pendrive. (Note that pendrives have a pretty short lifetime (1-10 years). They may won't get broken after 10 years, but you won't be able to play the files on them. (Once you format them again, they will work but you won't be able to recover your movies from there. So I suggest you to keep a copy of any important files you have (pics, videos, document files or whatever) on an high quality DVD disk in a DVD box. I recommend you to get some original "Taiyo Yuden DVDs". Note that there are a lot of fakes. - If you have a newer TV, it will be able to read the recovered *.mpg files from any pendrive or portable HDD. Again, always keep a copy of your important stuff on a hq archival DVD. And DO NOT burn it faster than 8x. Even HQ archival grade DVD will "fade" after 10-15 years if burned with a 16x speed or even faster!! If you can set your burning speed to 4x, that would be great. Then it will last for a very very long time. For any question you may contact me here ;-) Cheers, Steve
Works only for regular Movie DVDs. If you have files on them, first clean them with some microfibre towel lightly soaked in water with a bit of fluid soap. Then use the free version of PIRIFORM RECUVA with deep scan. It will help, I'm sure. If you have CDs, not DVDs, hold them to a bright light source a check whether it has small holes where the light comes thru. If yes, you will not or just partly be able to recover the CD. EASUS software works fine as well, but it's not free, maybe you can one on a torrent site, but check it with a good antivirus and malware fighter :-)
Hello Thiago! This is only for Video DVDs which you can't read anymore or which are not finalized. Yes, I wrote W.David's reply, just the perfect way. I would add one thing: Try it on at least 2 different DVD drives! If there's no success, just drop me a line, there are more "hardcore" recovery softwares, but I would try these two in the first round as well (Thanks W.David). Wish you good luck!
I've followed all the steps up to the opening of the dvd. I was thrilled when I saw all was going as supposed to. But then, whe I had to open the dvd drive, the pc keeps making this funny noise and it won't open. I can see that there is somethiung recorded in the disc, but the pc does not recognize it... what a pity! Any ideas? 😢
After a while, it tells me the cd is empty, but I can see that it is not, because of the marks on it. I fact, I know tht it is not because I recorded my little dauhgter videos from her first year and I am so sad to have lost them..
When I first tried this, I got the warning when trying to convert to the MPG. After my husband did something, it only downloaded in a Windows Media Player format and now I cannot change it to the MPG or the VOB. It stays in the IBQ format. How do I change that? I'm not sure what he did.
If you have difficulties, you may try it on another computer or or another PC DVD reader. And don't forget to clean your DVDs surface before you begin with the process. :-)
You may set the default software for opening mpg files to your preferred media player (like VLC or Windows Media Player). Probability Isobuster set himself "as default player" for mpg files, but you can easily set it by yourself, just right click the mpg file and go search for "open with..." or similar, maybe "chose default..", can't remember now, but you'll find it for sure 😉
@@normy1471 OK, you can burn ANY iso file to DVD. With most any DVD burning software. You can also mount it as a "drive". There is CDburnerXP. You can set burn iso to DVD. Believe me, it will work. Here is the download link, no virus or malware: cdburnerxp.se/hu/home Let me know when it's burned ;-)
DO NOT EXTRACT! Just follow the guy as he describes the steps. It worked for me even with finalized DVDs, which were scratched!! Nothing could play it. I only lost 3-4 minutes out of 1.5 hrs of family video. This guy is a genius!!!
You can play it with VLC media player for sure. Or you can convert them into a easier, smaller size *.mkv video file. More convenient, smaller, same quality with proper settings. But again, VLC media player should be able to play it.

Good job man. Thank you.
Can u help me, my handycam says unable to recognize data, i record with my handcam already annd i think it's gone 😭
Yesss! Use Piriform Recuva (free version) with deep scan enabled!!
highly appreciated this works great
Thank you. Great instructions. Question: After recovering the files and conversion, how do we burn them to a DVD in the order that they were before (on unfinalized DVD)? Best regards to you ;-)
Just use VSO software.... I'm pretty sure you will find some site where you can download it for free
Any suggestions?
enable in Windows - "show common file extensions"! After this you will be able to rename the file extension.
Excelente!!! muchas gracias!! :) saludos!
HELP... when I change to th .VOD the icon doesn't change to an orange cone it stays the same.
Kirsty Strain ya same please help
Kirsty Strain hey kirsty, I’ve found out that even after we changed the file to .vod but the icon still doesnt change to the orange cone, you’ll just have to open the file as instructed in VOB2MPG and it’ll still do the work
@@oscar3893 Just download VLC video player.

Thanks for the video! I haven't tried DVDVOB2MPG yet but ISOBuster is working for me (20th of July 2021). VLC media player can play the .ibq file, albeit with noticeable interlacing. Do you know anything about removing that? Thanks again!
Just go to the menu "video" and choose "deinterlace" 😊👍🏻
Thank you...
I went to split the video as I had different ones on the dvd but when I did with easy cutter I got no sound
its works thanks my friend
I am so thankful but the only bad thing was it only found 1.55 minutes, the rest of the wedding wasn’t found, the video is there but won’t play because it says it doesn’t support the file even when I change it to Vob
upload it pls to a cloud and I'll fix it for you!
maybe you will do another clip with best solution on unreadable sectors from dvd's . On program we have 3 options. 1. omit sectors; 2. Replace wit all zeroes; 3. Replace with dummy data.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately it didn't work for me.
Hi guys. I did follow all of the steps and on the end I got only one Ibp and one Ibq file. I think because of that I still can not watch this video. Does anyone know what might cost the problem? Why I only get one Ibq file instead of two?
Can confirm fhis works with mini dvd rw from sony handycam circa 2010.Thank you very much!
Yes it does!!
Absolutely perfect, thank you!
Appreciate the assistance sir salute u for the help
Thanks for the video. Unfortunately I cannot extract without paying USD$59.95 for the personal license to extract Sony Handicam mini DVD files. It was worth a try though.

hey i am having the same issue. you got any solutions man?
@@rohanaswal4523 I actually haven't I ended up ordering the same camcorder I used to record with back then (for a fairly cheap price too), and finalized it with that
Hi Steve - Great video but after I burn the file to a DVD my DVD player will not play the video. This is a DVD player hooked up to my TV. Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi! It's not enough to burn the VOB files.
A regular Video DVD has other files on the disk too, without them your DVD player won't recognize the disk.
Here's what you can do:
- Burn your rescued files with "VSO ConvertX to DVD" - it is a pretty nasty software unless you leave anything as it is.
For any question you may contact me here ;-)
Cheers,
Steve
Does this works for any other files then only videos? I have an old dvd with a lot of files that I need to recover...
@@Soproni_Larynx_Forditoiroda Thanks mate, the dvd's alredy clean, I'll give a try with this Recuva, right now I'm trying with ddrescue
Hi! I don't know that one, but Recuva with deep scan and EASEUS helped me sooo often.
Wish you success!!!
Hello Thiago!
This is only for Video DVDs which you can't read anymore or which are not finalized.
Yes, I wrote W.David's reply, just the perfect way.
I would add one thing:
Try it on at least 2 different DVD drives!
Try to clean the DVD and / or in another dvd drive! Must work!

When I first tried this, I got the warning when trying to convert to the MPG. After my husband did something, it only downloaded in a Windows Media Player format and now I cannot change it to the MPG or the VOB. It stays in the IBQ format. How do I change that? I'm not sure what he did.
See if you can hit the undo button. That's what I had to do, not sure if it'll work if you already closed all the way out tho
Thanks, it shot up to 14% then it went very slow to 17.5% over the past hour. Hopefully it just needs a few hours 🙏
If you have difficulties, you may try it on another computer or or another PC DVD reader.
And don't forget to clean your DVDs surface before you begin with the process. :-)
If you record a disc on a Sony product for instance…you can play it on another Sony product…it will work. Must be the same brand.
One of my dvds had errors in it, it saved as a IBQ file, but when I rename mpg, it still opens with ISOBUSTER.
And were you able to save it successfully?
You may set the default software for opening mpg files to your preferred media player (like VLC or Windows Media Player). Probability Isobuster set himself "as default player" for mpg files, but you can easily set it by yourself, just right click the mpg file and go search for "open with..." or similar, maybe "chose default..", can't remember now, but you'll find it for sure 😉
saved it as an iso file, but can't open it. very frustrating.
@@normy1471 OK, you can burn ANY iso file to DVD. With most any DVD burning software. You can also mount it as a "drive". There is CDburnerXP. You can set burn iso to DVD. Believe me, it will work. Here is the download link, no virus or malware: cdburnerxp.se/hu/home
Let me know when it's burned ;-)
Thanks a lot. It worked!!
In order for me to extract, it says I need to register first and get a key. What did I do wrong?
DO NOT EXTRACT! Just follow the guy as he describes the steps. It worked for me even with finalized DVDs, which were scratched!! Nothing could play it. I only lost 3-4 minutes out of 1.5 hrs of family video. This guy is a genius!!!
Not sure what I am doing wrong but after renaming the file as mpg, it is not playing on my media player. What did I do wrong
You can play it with VLC media player for sure.
Or you can convert them into a easier, smaller size *.mkv video file. More convenient, smaller, same quality with proper settings.
But again, VLC media player should be able to play it.
