    The second question should not need the comprehensive rules, as the Forgotten Ancient already specifies to move onto OTHER creatures, which is clearly not itself.

    • @JudgingFtW
      @JudgingFtW  3 роки тому +4

      That's true, but I wanted to make that point while I was talking about that rule, and I couldn't think of another card that moved counters where it would be applicable.

      @@JudgingFtW If you were able to turn The Ozolith into a creature using an Animate type effect that would allow it to move counters off of and back onto itself.

      @@sborck1 That would work tough since the counters would move from it to something else then back to it. The thing that does not work is moving a counter already in a permanent to itself, the game just sees the counter was already there and does nothing.

    Brief note about the second ruling-
    I don’t think it matters what the comprehensive rules say when the card text (and presumably oracle text) of forgotten ancient says you “other creatures.” Since the forgotten ancient isn’t an “other creature” you can’t move its counters onto itself.

    dutch here, MTG isnt printed in our language. As a joke to troll our friends during a commander game we did make a commander deck ourselves with actual cards and translated them to our language. It was a real pain and costed a lot of time but in the end was really worth it. biggest issue were translating keywords and instant/sorcery cause some words just dont translate at all or become really weird.

      I played war of the spark pre release in Rotterdam. It was fun to hear players speak dutch but use English words just for the magic terms, like sorcery and Planeswalker.

    25 boxes! Are we running out?! Do we need to send you decorations?! I really love Iridescent Hornbeetle - absolutely underrated. Hope you're having a great day!

      The boxes on the shelf are all boxes I earned from judging. I have some events lined up in the next few weeks where I plan to finish out the ones I have missing, but then that probably will be it for new boxes for a while until a new set drops. Although, I suppose if someone wanted to send some decorations because they were a fan of my judge content, I could consider that I earned those by judging too and put them up as well.

    German Fan of your Content Here:
    Our judges almost always look up english wordings, cause the translation sometimes bring up misunderstandings. Like "of your choose" vs. "target" or "up to" can be 0 and so on

      As far as I know, “choose vs target“ is the only major pain point in the translation. I haven’t really noticed any others. I wonder why they ditched the literal “target creature” translation („Zielkreatur“) they used way back in the old-border past. It sounds a bit weird, but is 100% clear. (Unless Wizards comes up with „any number of target creatures and/or enchantments and/or lands“. Then this falls apart, unfortunately)
      Apart from that, actual mistranslations are far worse. Like the recent mistranslation of Oubliette in the Tomb of Annihilation token card. (The German translation is re-translated “Discard a card and sacrifice a creature, an artifact, or a land.”) I think this might have been caused by a card change late in the design process.

    I knew this one mostly because of Corpsejack Menace interactions. Gets pretty silly with The Ozolith.

    Just checked the effect texts of a russian and a german Forgotten Ancient.
    Both have clearly defined and understandable differences between "put" and "move".
    Same goes for the Beetle.

      I was mislead by some prior videos on this channel when I guessed the answer to this question, since I thought it would not keep the already existing types that it had.

    I did in fact consider the different words might cause problem here. My answer was “I don’t know.” 😂. Also forgotten ancient says “other creatures.” So I think moving them onto himself is already an illegal play. Does this also work with doubling season replacement then? Also very interesting point about other languages. I bet German is absolutely fine with it haha

  • @MrUTPlayer

    Forgotten ancient is unable to target itself. It says "to other creatures" - but its good to know

    • @picassodilly
      @picassodilly 2 роки тому

      I’m pretty sure forgotten ancient technically isn’t targeting anything when you move it’s counters, since it doesn’t say “target” anywhere in the text. Which is kinda’ nice if you happen to have a creature with shroud you’d like to pump up.
      Or if for some reason you wanted to pump up an opponent’s creature that had hexproof (like maybe to hit it with an effect that causes an opponent to sacrifice their highest powered creature)

  • @matthewspear2053
    @matthewspear2053 3 роки тому

    I was pretty happy I got this one right. Although I think I got lucky. I reasoned that when you move counters you remove them from one creature and put them on another but I didn't know the rules said that. Also the second question is irrelevant because forgotten ancient says other creatures, which just makes sense because how would you move counters to the same spot

    Can U move counters on one creature or on multiple creatures?

    • @Tharkon
      @Tharkon 7 місяців тому

      Depends on the effect. In the case of Forgotten Ancient you may move any number of +1/+1 counters and distribute them amongst any number of creatures, ignoring hexproof and shroud. You make all these choices during resolution.
