You are the master of spending an hour explaining 3 minutes of info
The longer the better! Its good to learn more about the subject than just the basics. What works in different ways and why. People dont learn by just getting directions. Its good to know why something works in one way or another
He's keeping the beginner in mind. I think he's great at explaining things. I think he's doing great things.
4:10 I'll save you 4 minutes of your life.

Thank you
I wish you could save me more than that there’s always so much fluff inbetween information

Everything about this channel is awesome but the best thing by far is the lack of commercialization. No plugs, no sponsorship, no FN ADS . I almost forgot some people just want to help others out.......just because. Thank you and your team very much.
You merely adopted the mycology. I was born in it, moulded by it
😂😂😂

I heat up my drill bits, using a culinary torch, before drilling. Cuts through the plastic like butter and seals the edges so there are no sharp spots. Only heat until it will slightly melt the plastic and reheat as needed. Have never cracked a single plastic project, using this method. Holding a board on the other side of the plastic is a pain, but it can work. Tape just leaves a sticky mess on my drill and my tub. Make sure you're not using your good wood or metal cutting, bits. The heat can dull them.
Fucking genius
Stepped drill bits make the cleanest holes in plastic I've ever had. Leaves you with a nice beveled edge.
Yo that's smart I never thought to heat up the bit.
I guess just make sure they are strong good bits right? Since heat and pressure when using the drill could break one, right?
Imma try it next time and see if it helps
Thanks for sharing!
you the man
@@Growingdopamine818 I would use the crappiest bit I have for this application, cuz once you do the bit is ruined. The good bits are hardened steel. You apply heat like that to a hardened bit it loses its temper, and ruins it

I’ve learned so much from you over the years Willy. You’re a wonderful soul Willy.
I ran my first ever grow on your monotub setup and grew 1.25 ounces on the first run dry weight!! Thanks Willy and much love TTF!!!
How many quarts of spawn?
@@gregorsamsa1364 3 quarts
That’s really not a very great yield. I’m pretty bummed to read this lol
3 oz or more would've been a good first flush. This is what happens when you try to "automate" an already effectively automated system- diminished yields.
Automated failure
Very sad yield. Build one of these instead and do bags or straw logs instead.
A few tweaks I would add for the fan setup. You can place the detached fan screen INSIDE the tub (sterilized first) for a more flush fit. Then you can use micropore tape to completely cover the fan hole on the outside of the tub. Once taped, screw the fan on. This will still allow FAE with the benefit of filtering the air. Note: When in spawn mode, tape over the fan with painter's masking tape. You can take the tape off when ready for fruiting.
Exactly the answer I was looking for thank you
Thanks man, perfect... YOU should be myco videoing! 💯
Hey man, buy the fan have to pull the air or flow inside ? I was a bit confusing
@@Marco-sb9ko air blowing in

Thanks so much for this awesome video! And your kindness really shines through your videos!!
Thanks for making my life easier. I love automation. Keep up the good work.
Tip for making the fan hole: grab a old tin soup can from your pantree that matches the girth of the fan, empty it and put the open end on top of your oven on high heat, wait a couple minutes and it will melt right through the plastic leaving a nice clean circle
Smartttt

This works great! While in colonization I taped everything up with painters tape then after four days the sub was 70% colonized. I then cased the sub with 50/50 mix and 6 days later I put in fruiting conditions. I did not start misting until day two of fruiting. You will see pins at this time possibly. once I put to fruiting I fan 3-6 times a day, 3 times auto from timer then 3 additional manually. on day two to day three I start the monsoon mister every eight hours and leave the automated set up and check on it once a day without having to do much at all. I used medical tape after removing the painters tape on the large holes during fruiting and left the small holes on the bottom uncovered. I have pins on day two of fruiting only fanning for the first day or two RH after fanning drops to 88 after a few minutes it's back to 93-95 RH temps remain around 76-78 love this set up. I can't wait to try Panaeolus Bisporus next
After I have taken high doses of psychedelics, I found that some people still feel imprisoned of their minds, what worked for me was mycena caps. Hey Willy, the crap tub I got with "kit" didn't work , grew about 7 mushrooms at different times and lots of failed pins so I'm building this tub.I'm Not sure if it was mentioned somewhere in comments but I used a piece of scrap wood behind each hole i drilled to keep from cracking , tape works too usually. Just a little helpful tip for the UA-cam peeps.
They forget to tell you that you have to Isolate the mushroom strain if you want consistent flushes that pin and grow at the same time.
@@sourcecodex3189 or just by genetics online and make agar transfers 😭
@@ianplattner9930 agar transfers is Isolating the strain lol 😂
@@sourcecodex3189 First off Isolation is most commenly being refered to when using MSS because there is work to be done and it can take time and effort and clones and lots of plates to get the genetic up to full canopy flushes ect, or like i said you can by LC online with good genetics and just put it on agar if you want to save the genetic. If you are really using the term "isolation" while talking other than MSS its not hard at all and your statement becomes void lol.
@@ianplattner9930 First off there are many ways to isolate a strain and the current most popular on UA-cam which is the platform we are commenting is transferring from agar to agar. So I’m still correct and you still look like an ass

When drilling hold a piece of scrap timber behind
This just helps to avoid cracking?
@@DylanCAD yessir! I use timber everytime
I work at a lumber mill so i have a lot of lumber on hand. Thanks for the tip :)
I live with a bartender and have a ton of cocktail shakers laying around. The top drainage portion makes perfect size holes for 50-70qt monotubs w/polyfill imo. Toss it on a red hot stove, grab a pair of pliers and depending on how hot you get it you can knock 2-3 holes out per heating w/ no cracks or jagged edges where moisture and bacteria can build.
I've been drilling into my tubs without any scrap of wood and literally 0 cracks. As long as you don't apply a significant amount of force on the drill, you shall achieve 0 cracks as well 👍
Hey Willy, I have quick question. I'm an amateur, can you explain to me why I would need FAE holes when you already have Gas exchange holes in the mix? I thought the FAE was a feature of the shotgun fruiting chamber and Gas exchange holes were traditionally for monotub tek? Thanks for your help.
Your very well at speaking and giving information, love the channel man you put in alot of effort and care about your subscribers. Keep doing you :)
I really dig the way you convey information brother…many thanks 🙏
The 1" "circular drill bit", is called a Paddle bit the one you described would also work but entails a lot more care in its' use.
Or a forstner bit
Or a spade bit.
What he should have suggested was " cup saw " or " hole saw ".
@@ridethepace6005 Yes you can go up to 3" or 4" with them, separate saw bits of course.
@@jomammy7786 Not a forstner bit. You would most definitely not want to use a forstner bit for this application. Those are designed to be used in a drill press only for drilling flat-bottom holes in wood.
Tip... temporarily tape over the area you’re going to drill, it will prevent cracking.
or you could heat them lightly with a blow dryer
You should always hold a piece of scrap wood behind the plastic tightly or lean down onto it as you push through gently with the drill bit. It wont ever crack.
Unibits works well too. But you still need the tape.
I place a wooden block on the opposite side I’m drilling from. It reduces the flex and strain on the plastic 👌
Just run the drill bit baCKWARDS its wayyy easier. duuuuuhhhh
Awesome! Thank you WillyMyco!!
B"H, G-d Bless you WILLY, I followed your down to earth (sorry no pun intended) teachings and hands on experience and 3 years ago grew a number of crops in my room. Could barely move without jumping over plastic bins. I stopped growing 2 and a half years ago.Having had a kilo or so, I used a faulty LOGIC: Even taking trips and many mini trips the kilo would have become not potent so like many things a FREEZER is for,I put them dried in baggies within baggies. YOU probably know that even eating the whole kilo the next week would not have made a mini trip let alone Ego Death! NEVER freeze your MYCO
I found that when I heated the plastic with my heat gun before I drilled or cut it out with a razor blade. That it stopped cracking at all.
Put some tape where you're drilling helps too
What I have found, when using drill bits to make holes in plastic is NOT to use a drill (because it usually cracks), but take the drill bit and heat the end of it with a torch and MELT the hole in the plastic.
just run the drill bit in reverse first with the drill let the bit heat up then set the drill to lowest gear and go slow
Just buy a step drill or a hole saw kit. Twist drills suck for plastic
I wish I could afford one of these builds! I sure look forward to it! Bless you
Awesome Willy! I'm gonna build this. One note..if the fans are true 12 volts the average usb port only puts out about 5 volts..so I will make sure I have a full 12 volt wall adapter because I'm going to make 2 tubs.

Is this automatic misting system better than using an automatic humidifying system? There are ultrasonic humidifiers for reptiles for around the same price that allow you to set a target humidity level instead misting based on repeated intervals and times.

to put an end to all the confusion regarding placement of fan (inside or out) that I have seen in the comments. Willy has placed it on the outside with the airflow directed into the tub. I base this comment on the frame in the video at, 23:51/39:06, where you can clearly see the fan and its grill on the same side of the lid as the, STERILITE, name. I like this setup and am in the process of assembling mine now. If I want to take off for a couple or more days then not to worry. Pluss it will help the little guys grow up strong and healthy knowing they live in a stable home not to mention it will cut down on those peski little contamination pinch points. See yall (way) out there; )...

Awesome video man! Thanks for the knowledge. Now, one question. Why a mister instead of a humidifier? Does it really matter? Keep spreading the love! One Love!
I too want to know.
Humidity should be high as fuck if your soil is moist in a tub that size...
@@validZander Thanks for trying to answer my question...I understand that...however, I wanna know why he chose a mister rather than a humidifier?? Tub size don't matter, at all, humidifiers are used in fruiting chambers bigger than this tub. I feel a humidifier would keep humidity higher than a mister hence the name HUMIDifier...but I'd imagine the fanning part would dissipate the humidity faster than fanning after a mist. Hold up. Maybe I just answered my own question!? Lmao!!
@@JradTHM but if the fan only kicks on for 60 seconds every 8 hours then the fogger/humidifier should keep it at the proper lvl the rest of the time

Personally, I’ve found that you really don’t need artificial light at all. If you’re going to use artificial light, you can fruit tubs perfectly fine using the light on the ceiling of a room, and even just with the natural light that comes in the window. You also only really need 4-6 hours of light a day, not 12. I’ve tested 12 hours vs 4-6 hours and the results were identical. So don’t waste money on electricity doing it for 12. Imo best bet is to use natural light. In the window or even just in the room. Super easy, no hassle.
Would you say that a clear lid is absolutely essential even of the tote is clear? I found the perfect tote for my grow and only opaque lids..
OmniClimHazard I don’t think the details matter lol mushrooms will grow pretty much anywhere I suppose. When I was growing I used clear lids but I doubt it matters.
@@huntercrainmusic Cool. Ill give it a whirl. Ive been a mushroom forager for over a decade and have gotten some of my best harvests from little to no light areas in the woods. I was just curious what all the fuss was about among homegrowing regarding the need for so much light. I think Ill do fine with a solid lid. ✌️
OmniClimHazard yeah the truth is there isn’t reason for any light at all. And if you do use light you need like. A TINY amount, for a very small amount of time per day. The ONLY benefit of this is to speed up the time it takes to begin fruiting. Once they pin, you no longer even need to do that. And if you leave them in complete darkness they will still fruit just fine, but will take a few extra days to start.
@@OmniClimHazard it shouldn't work, mushrooms grow towards light, they'll grow to the sides of your tub. If you want you can make it extremely compact inside the tub and have quarter inch holes all over it, and they should grow through those quarter inch holes.

Do you make a filter for the holes. I’ve seen other tubs have like Cotten or stuffing for a filter in the holes.
Ghetto tek = polyfill; any big box store in the craft area.
Pro tek = 0.2micron filters; lots of options to choose from. For this design in particular you could probably fit syringe filters in all those holes. The filters restrict the air flow and more holes may be preferable. Or, use a high pressure air pump like a nebulizer and push fresh clean air in, while pulling the old stale air out.
www.amazon.com/s?k=syringe+filters&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
I would advise doing your cycles opposite of how he describes in this video; first run the fan, then the mister. The moving air will dry things out a bit. It also more close replicates natural conditions, where the wind picks up and then the rain comes.
Hell yea Willy! Been waiting on this re-upload
No filtration for FAE or Gas Exchange holes? Seen so many use polyfil, is there a specific reason you don’t use anything?

I know that any info and advice are a gift to me and i love! this channel, i feel bad asking for advice because i really do my own work even if it takes me months, i do it instead of asking.... but im having such a weird time in Florida because it's pretty much 100% humidity all the time and our cow poop and hay and trees all have zero substance. Even milk 'grown' lol here .. our whole milk, tastes like sour skim milk. The whole milk up there is like cream. I grew up in green harbor mass. If i soak my grain or wood, it turns to bread in one day. Anything left on our shelves is already field capacity, if i monotub..it might as well be a rainstorm. I use verm & do a ton of makeshift but i literally have to mist with hydrogen peroxide dilution for the mist and fan tek... floridians need help because it's soaking wet. If you set out dry jars and put an open air fan on high all day.. anything dry will be soaked in a week if you add zero water at alllll. Not wet then goes dty. Dry then steadily absorbs constant water. I don't have central heat and air but it wouldn't matter other than temp. Any Florida 100% humidty advice would be gold, gold, solid gold. Do you cover your holes with miceopore tape or polyfil?
You can do both but polyfil would be preferable due to slightly more fae.
With the fans tho would that effect fae like say if u add a second fan? Making micropore better for the purpose?
If you have a drill with a slower speed- use that, and if you switch it to reverse, it drills slower, melting the plastic and leaving cleaner holes without cracking. I love your FAE design! 👍
