    Hi George! Yes, you are absolutely right, barter sector is not efficient at all compared to the cash sector. But sometimes you have no choice.

    To Thunderwavia: Therefore further simplification of my material or stretching it where it does not apply should not be done. I do not want people to be mislead. So I would suggest watching my original video as any further iterations will inevitably lead to distortions regardless who does it (I have nothing against my friend George4title).

    Hi TheRedPriestofVenice! Thank you for your comments!
    > Are you saying that the ruble was still used to buy food and supplies at the stores?
    Yes, it was against Russian laws to sell anything for the currency other than ruble. Of course, people would borrow money from each other in USD, as ruble was loosing value very fast. Also in sales between private parties USD was used.

    Hi 0musing! Thank you for the comment! I think more detailed analysis can be done but I do not think it will be very useful as we do not know exactly how it will turn out this time and correct approach should be taken according to the concrete situation.

    Thanks for inviting me to check this out. I liked it, but it was a bit long. But I guess there's a lot to cover. It also ins't exactly related to our economy in the UK. e.g, we couldn't possibly start a small food shop, there is too much of a strong-hold with the larger corps.

    Hi Tim! Thank you for your thoughtful comments! Yes, electricity and phone services were doing fine during deflation in Russia. If you won't pay, the service can be easily turned off. So people have to pay. I also agree with your opinion on real estate and rental housing -- the prices will decrease.

    Hi Thunderwavia! Thank you for your message! Yes, I saw george4title videos. Of course, I do not mind him using my stuff as long as he gives me credit in the video description. However I see one problem here. The message I try to deliver in my video is not a simple one. After producing the video I realized that real life is more complicated than what I described. If I do more videos on the subject I will address this.

    just this past saturday I did a speech in class on how to grow your own garden. The specific purpose of the speech was in the event of a collapse the dollar. I think I turned off half the audience because they could not comprehend or did not believe that it could be possible that something like this could happen. Many of those students are the same ones that will be dependent on the system.

    This is a vey informative lecture. We need to understand that the barter system will greatly depend on the availability of (PRE-DEFLATION) accuqired Commodities. You must begin now to set your self up as the distributor of basic neededs ie Food, Simple Medication, Clothing, and CLEAN DRINKING WATER! Also remember that your skills can also be traded for items and or cash. You must be flexable! Never become set in one way! One light bulb is worth three meals! NO LESS! FOOD IS # 1 ALWAYS!!

  • @S3Stores
    @S3Stores  15 років тому

    Well, you do not purchase it. You take on a small barter transaction first on the basis of trust. If you prove that you are honest and can execute it successfully the fund would give you an opportunity to work on a larger transactions. You have to connect 3 parties in a simple scheme I showed and you have to reasonably satisfy all parties -- it takes certain skill to execute it.

    This is a presentation that should be given to college students before they enter the work force because these are things most people will not consider working in a field that is deflation proof. I chose a government route but it is not something I can enjoy forever. It can be highly stressful. But yes this is a good lecture that should be given before you take a job...

    This guy is 100% right. I lived in Belarus during 1991 and I saw ALL of this. Ukraine and Russia experienced the inflation even worse than Belarus. It was horrifying. People had to find ways to sell things, like professors from universities were selling trinkets on the black market just to survive. It's happening again, only this time in the 2nd empire, USA. Save money and get gold people! Plan for worst case scenario always.

    we're more in stagflation than deflation. Deflation occurs when the annual inflation rate falls below zero percent, resulting in an increase in the real value of money - a negative inflation rate. Stagflation is an economic situation in which inflation and economic stagnation occur simultaneously and remain unchecked for a period of time.

    i agree well said i work for international pawnbrokers and we had 120% increase in sales last year. our graph predictions show 25% increase for uk nect month, meaning unless we get cash input/loans we could struggle. as in crisis people need food/energy/housing. gold we are going into big time and its exported abroad in bags. food will spike in uk soon as we import it.

    I agree. The accent is great [Russian accents are just so frickin cool] and the explanation is great.
    what's bad is that there's still people in America who don't think this kindof thing could happen to us, but we're SO on that path of reaching over 1000% inflation.
    the only real way to get rid of an economic crisis like this, IMO, is to get rid of the central banking system [which tends to be the root of all the problems] and go to a solid, consistently valuble money standard of sorts.

    Thomaserossi, the problem is that your not incorporating the fisher effect (i=r+pie). The fisher effect states that as inflation increases so will interest rates. The value of the dollar may fall dramatically, but the interest you pay on your debt will also rise dramatically. Now it's not 1-1, that's impossible, but you will still have to pay back the majority of your debt. If you don't, the government may cease your assets. (they may anyways)

    Thank you for a very informative video. Regarding purchasing gold or silver and being able to easily convert it back into cash I would suggest investing in Central Fund of Canada (cef). They are a fund that holds gold and silver bullion. One purchases shares as an investor; safe and secure. Simply sell shares through your broker when ready and you have cash within a few days. Just a thought to share with you and others. Fund performance has been well lately. Thanks.

    I understand. My answer was related to the very last two minutes or so, where the author refers to gold which has been a store of value for thousands of years. Gold cannot be created out of thin air.
    My understanding is that in this video ,the author refers paper currency as money and a means for exchange for goods/services.
    In a (hyper)inflationary environment, what would then have the ultimate store of value if all paper currencies r prone 2 b devalued by printing press ? Barter/Gold ?

  • @0musing
    @0musing 15 років тому

    Agreed, it makes sense to tailor response to the right context. One does not know how the American/Global deflation-inflation cycle will occur. I was just interested in this from the viewpoint of understanding comprehensive responses/alternatives to deflation and their tradeoffs-risks/benefits and similarly for inflation. About taxation and capital gains tax the way to do it would be to ensure your returns minus capital gains is adequate to beat inflation rate and generate good returns.

    Although common items can have a greater, but still limited appeal, you really have to look at what you have or can provide to know what you can barter. I am an accountant. On a limited scale I am already doing barter with my clients. I have traded services for electrical repairs, piano lessons, etc. Obviously, the self-employed person with a trade or skill will have more opportunities to barter than an employee. With US inflation coming, find a skill you can barter.

    I agree on that, there is a risk. But unlike a share where in troubling times a company can say "lets not pay the investors dividend because of the situation" (investors will often accept) they cant say that to lenders. Interest has to be payed. Thats what I mean buy being a burdon. In the case of a loan, if you are having difficulties, the interest is often alot higher making it even harder. And then there is still the problem of a small group who will control all money by simply lending out.

    Hi 82abhilash! You are absolutely right about taxes! However if this situation occurs entrepreneurs in the USA have to figure out the way to take money out of the system like Russian entrepreneurs came up with different schemes to do it in 1990th. How to do it correctly depends on the local tax system. I am sure one can come up with the ways to do it.

    Hi TheRedPriestofVenice!
    > if Serguei used the dollar during his country's collapse maybe we'll use the ruble during ours. : }
    Actually, now ruble is already started to loose value against USD. 3 months ago: 1 USD = 27 Rubles. Now 1 USD = 32.5 Rubles. Russian Central Bank said that it won't seriously fight for Ruble's value until 1 USD = 42 Rubles. I think it is correct approach: do not fight for something you can not defend, retreat and fight for more reasonable goals.

    Generally its always good to be as selfsufficient as possible. I do this by using regulary our family summer cottage. Forests around us and the river that luckily is not poisoned.. Like many rivers in the world. Most important teach your children to fish, Live from forest and small basic farming. This will be FUN for them if you start when they are 4-8y.
    Generally people living in cities are totally dependent on the "System" thus most voulnerable to possible "system failure"

    I lived in Romania 5 years and even now there is a good barter system with the poor. It is skills that keeps you going one man makes wine and trades it to a man who fixes his roof while the roofer may fix the roof of the Veterinarian that treated his animals and so on. If you have no skill or unique ability and you have no large amount of Gold or valuables you will not survive in a real crisis

    Some valuable pointers, it will be truly amazing to see what happens in developed countries if all of this happens, we in the Uk for example don't know how much new money is pumped into the economy each month through quantitative easing - this is a real worry as things could suddenly happen and nobody is ready...

    Thanks for uploading your experiences with the Russian economic events of the '90's. I believe we will see certain sectors of the US economy experience price decreases (like housing) and others price increases (like food and energy). I don't use the terms deflation and inflation unless I am referring to a contraction or expansion of the actual Money Supply. US coins were made of silver, and I believe that they again will become a store of value for citizens and circulate along side dollars.

    Um,
    good idea (a bit choppy) and I appreciate the comparison, but some changes.
    1. Companies owe money to gov as a whole, not to a part of gov. The state decides how to spend the money.
    2. Companies that can't pay their bills go bye-bye. Their last task would be selling the inventory. The workers will be long gone.
    3. #1 difference = America can print money, as much as it wants. If we want oil, hey they take dollars. Print some more. We are THE ONLY nation to do this. We are the world currency
