Thanks for sharing. Drove that way last year and then onto Raetihi. A day trip from Auckland. My late Mother was born in Raetihi or Rangataua, depending on the source of records. I love the small towns. I saw the derelict trains in Taumaranui. Are you from there, Sir. Cheers.
Chur bro for the video me and the missus will be moving there soon we’ve been in the states for a while, we were tauranga based , but 13 years away and seeing the prices around the bop, time to move to a less complicated life Tuamarunui cheers
Thanks for the great video mate ... sure does bring back some memories. I was born in Taumarunui and used to ride my push bike up and down the main street ... had a paper route and milk run there also. Living in the USA now but never forget where i am from.
Bank in the 70s mum and I traveled to Taumarunui to visit extended family . We boarded the train called the Silver fern from Wellington . We stayed with family ( Mum , three sons and two Girls ), the Father left the same family of five back in the late 60s he had worked for the NZ Railways , NZ rail allowed the same family , to remain living in A old Railway house where we visited them . I was about three years old. I will never forget them ,great memories . Mum and I used to meet up with the Mother of this family of five on main street for lunch. the mother used to work for the local council . I used to play with the boys in the back yard of the old railway house the boys wore making a raft for A local competition . I remember waking up in the morning in the old railway house to the small of burnt toast that was toasted on an old wood fired stove . it was A week day and the kids wore getting ready for school . In the kitchen there was an old booth table and seating area like you see in an old restraint . On the stereogram " Neil Diamond " l.ps playing most of the time. As A three year old I was in one of the bedrooms and under the bed I found A roof off a model carriage of some model Train set that used to belong to the kids , I never found the rest of the model train set . never mind . I am 53 years young now , I have an interest in model trains , like to hear "Neil Diamond " songs and live on the Kapiti coast , I am so looking forward to visiting Taumarunui again . Thanking you for posting this up load of the main street shops . Taumarunui holds a very special place in my heart .
Thank you it is such a great spot here in tamaranui we have a lot of visitors over the winter period that go up the mountain skiing and snowboarding.
