Thanx for sharing. I love this town, so peacefull. Our band use to play in the memorial hall every year for the farmers annual what ever it was back in the 70's
My first boss and l did a re roof there in 1984 and the prisoners helped get the tiles of the roof and stack them. One of the buggers stole my smokes. We stayed with a single lady who was a great cook not far from the cozzy club i think.....great memories
I drove trains through these little towns in the early 60s when there wasr people and laughter there lots of good times all gone into history so saf chaz
I lived here for five and a bit years, I worked at the prison, left in may 2001 how time has whizzed past, me and my twins would love to take a road trip back here
Sad no live spirit's with life enjoying land of nature. No hi's or waves hello. Being local , stop for a chat. No problems Miss, that Government lady aburn will fill you town with people from Brazil or Refugees?? Before the cram em in towns that can't full fill them in. It's how they take the land thinking they not going to take land, to make you think that. May the Queen live a life to come filled with happiness Gods bless the land
My father use to be the towns wai guy and done a lot of the concrete paths around the prison since he was in it and not much else was goin on at the time. The lady across the driveway was the best and we use to stay with her while visiting the old man.Floods, pain in the ass bt otherwise it’s a peaceful town and I’d live there today.Beautiful area 💯🙏🏻(92-2000 lag)RIP too old man 1941-2018 Milton Robert Watson 💸
I wouldn't complain about no activity. It looks like heaven to me. I am returning to a small town in NZ after 30 years in the rat-race of Sydney - and it can't come quick enough!
I used to live in Ohura back in early 1980s my dad was a prison officer. Went back there in 2012 very quiet and our old house had been demolished or transported. Would love to move back for the peace and quiet.
Just drove through there from Waitara via the Waitaanga's - reliving my first trip 30 years ago. What happened to the prison? How would I contact to find out about a cheap house and land??
Love this place❤

There is so much homelessness in aotearoa maybe government should put people bck in these towns. Take much stress off the cities an suburbs.
