You are so lucky to have such a peace of art and history it was a pleasure to watch. I am shocked. I read tarot for 7 years but now I feel like I really don't know nothing about the rider waite tarot deck. I was never interested to find out how the deck was created but now I do and I am so glad I found your video. Very informative. Thank you

The best video by far comparing various Waite-Smith decks. Your Pam A deck is so cool! Thank you. 💛

Beautiful Pam-A deck. You really should consider using protective sleeves for your cards. This helps keep the cards free from oil and other contaminants. They also provide more regidity to the cards. They make sleeves specifically for tarot dimensions.

Thanks so much Lisa for this lovely comparison presentation, excellent stuff! I'm so pleased you got that original version in such first class condition to provide the absolute baseline.

Holy smokes, the original Pam A deck is stunning! The coloring and sharpness is perfect. I do like the look of the Centennial deck, but the copyright on the side drives me crazy.

Best clone in terms of image and card stock I've seen was the old AGM deck (momentarily available in US before being threatened with lawsuit), not the ones sold around the world now. Centennial is a decent compromise for a new, affordable mass-produced deck. But I think I would generally recommend USG's Universal Waite, for which Stuart Kaplan has Mary Hanson-Roberts recolor. (Claimed to follow original color directions of Waite/Golden Dawn.) Crisp, clear, good (better?) card stock. No, it's not a clone and doesn't use Pixie's colors, but a lot of people don't like all that bright yellow! (If Lo Scarabeo's Radiant Wise Spirit didn't have so much blocky, gunked-up imagery I'd pick that for its colors.)

"The Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck" isn't based on the Roses and Lilies deck despite having a roses and lilies card back. I can't remember which Pam that "Original" is based off of, but I know it's either C or B. Someone did tell me that "The Smith-Waite Centennial" WAS based off of Roses and Lilies rather than Pam A, but I have yet to investigate that.

    • @MindfulTarot
      @MindfulTarot  4 роки тому +2

OH good point about the Centennial. It makes sense that it would be based off the Roses & Lilies since it came out in 2009. BUT - I don't know that there's any real difference between the Roses & Lilies and the Pam A.... That's fascinating to think about the Original. I just pulled out the Sun card. It's definitely not the B but it does look like the C. The "oh shit" squiggle is very rough, which is a hallmark of the C. Thanks so much M-C!

The Artistry of Tarot It’s definitely NOT the Pam B because of the Sun card. I’ll do some more research and a follow up video... thanks so much for watching and writing! ❤️

Like the Radiant Wise Spirit i think that was Pam C. That deck has some nice cards but also some very ugly line work!

Very cool, have always wanted to see what the Pam A looks like! I have AGM English and like it a lot except for the Empress card. Every time I see it I think to myself she looks a bit "green around the gills" lol Also I noticed some of the images are not centered inside the border

Hi Lisa, love your videos! Very informative, but so confusing with so many versions! Wondering if anyone has ever thought to create a facsimile of the original 1910 edition with the hardcover version of The Key to the Tarot in the Red box!? I think if they did, that would be really cool!

Oddly enough that 1993 "original" with the Roses and Lillies is not correct as that Pam B has a crackle back. And the roses and lillies was a Pam A. So they put the 1930's Pam B with the 1910 Pam A backs. I know this because I have a Pam B with those green tones but the backs are oracle.

Ok so I found a really well hidden yhvh on the temperance card, just above the air triangle on his chest, some decks leave it out and the universal waite completely deletes it.

I'd love to see the MPC Study deck side my side with your Pam A. Melissa did a comparison with her Pam D but the Study deck was taken from the Pam A. Please, please? Thanks, Lisa, Anne

Oops! I see you did reference the study deck. Which I like very much. I think it scanned a different deck than your printing as the background color is more of a gray, mauve. Which I like! I hate the face of the Empress on the AGM....green!

I found this veryI interesting. Thankyou for taking the time to desribe the different decks so clearly. I’m going to buy a rws deck so this video was helpful but looking online to buy one I can’t tell which one to get. I don’t want a shiny or too smooth card stock or too much colour but the new ones aren’t suited. Do you know which edition is good and available to purchase? I do prefer the subtle colours of the earlier editions. 🙏❤️🦆🐅

Great comparison 👌 I only have The Centennial out of the copies here.
Have you seen the RWS 2.0 by James Ricklef. The line work has been cleaned up throughout & he uses great colour. It's my go to at the moment.

Is your Pam A an original deck actually published in 1910-1920? Like that actual physical deck you have is 100+ years old? Do you have any idea how many of those are still around or how to find them? I heard there’s only 5 known copies of the original 1909 deck that Waite recalled.

Uhmm, do you know when they stopped printing them on a print sheet? I recently bought a early 90s deck and some of the card backs look lighter than the rest. I'm not sure if that's supposed to be normal or I got ripped off.... 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔

Isn't a facsimile a photograph of something? Then wouldn't the cross hatching be in both the original and the copy?

Hiya dear one! I'm fine. It's been a whirlwind. Being a health care chaplain during COVID is ... a thing. Also some serious non-covid health stuff with family. But we're all hale and hearty thus far... Looking to return to YT in earnest soon. I have some new tricks up my sleeve - a next phase of mentorship work for Mindful Tarot.
