@@maxiimized I think it's moreso a transit thing (think how long haul flights tend to dim cabin lights over the flight). It could just be a thing to calm crew and passengers on board, or it's to minimise power drain during travel. Either way, it's amusing that the advertisements remain. We haven't really seen hyperspace mess with electronics aside from causing your speedometer to go wild trying to figure out how fast you're going.

Honestly I think not being able to see outside the carrier is cooler. Being ex-military and having experience being trapped in these giant metal machines in the dark, listening to the creaking and low rumbles and watching things sway back and forth just hits me different.
Right? It's really creepy, and gets even creepier when you think about how the capital ships in Elite actually travel. It not just adds this ominous feeling of being trapped, but also going through some weird dimensional realm while doing so - and it sounds equally weird too.
The sound people at Frontier Developments (especially those working on Elite) are the ABSOLUTE BEST in the industry and should all receive achievement awards from all over the entertainment industry.
As a film sound designer by trade I couldn't agree more. Their attention to detail goes so far in bringing life and immersion to the world, surrounding everything you do in the game in a certain indescribable 'mood', which I find so addictive!
Couldn't have said it better. If nothing else, you've got to appreciate how much immersion the sound alone brings to the game. Frontier absolutely nailed it.
I wish I had a nice mid range system that could hit the lowest and highest notes with full power. Even with shitty headphones I can tell these warp sounds are like audio heroin.

Anything else will compromise in the low ends or high ends. Even in the 1000€ class. And thats without the necesary amps and dacs.

Just as a warpdrive in warhammer 40k. They can do it because of the large mass. Smaller versions of FSD don't create a portal, but pierce the space for only a few seconds. It isn't the same thing.

This groaning sound is the best it can come up with to represent the rending of spacetime occurring as capital ships and fleet carriers depart into and drop out of hyperspace.

AstraTan yeah, from what i have gathered in the lore, Thargoids should control witchspace like we control supercruise. Makes me wonder if they can see our ships pass by while jumping between systems...
From what the lore says about Thargoids, we are, at best, an annoying infestation of hyperspace, akin to rats or mice, and at worst we're more like cockroaches and the feel the need to "cleanse" hyperspace of our kind.
The sound design is amazing and people mock being stuck inside a box, but there ARE visuals...when you start to enter the hyperspace rift you can sort of see everything 'compress' in front of you, and then on exiting, it 'relaxes' back to normal space. Really nice touch, along with the dimming lights.
Say what you want about Frontier's priorities nowadays, but God damn did they nail sound design in this game, visuals too, scripted things like the thargoid interception are so cinematically well done, so impressive.
Throughout this as the lights dim and as the ship seals itself up with such a claustrophobic and somber tone, I my thoughts kept going to the Battlefleet Gothic 1 Warpstorm cinematic. Holy Emperor, preserve us as we traverse the dangers of the void!

Wished the owner could see from the bridge as a option after landing and anyone else has this as if its a military ship so the owner has a bonus seeing who is landing and a sense of scale so spending the credits for upkeep has that feel of "worth" and actually having one feels impressive. Edit: That is all I want. Seeing the jump, seeing people land, when under attack able to direct pilots where they are and if its safe to take off or not for which type of ships. this ONE feature can add many tactical and RP roles.

I kind of like it. It's more immersive in a way. It's like when you park your car on a ferry or train (like the Eurostar), where you're sitting inside your vehicle, listening to the sounds the larger vehicle (the train) makes while it transports you.
Its called Elite Dangerous because jumping a whole-ass fleet carrier through witchspace is one of the most elite dangerous things you can do in this game

Absolutely crazy that this game is just developing "space legs" to get out of your ship. Years behind all other games like it. Things like ships and building better all be explorable
radio signal being sent by the carrier, and your ship's computer is just imitating where the sound is coming from in 3D space for the Spacial awareness of the pilot, not a terrible idea for an actual system to have in a spacecraft that might be entering high traffic stations or dangerous regions

Hopefully with the update date coming to let you walk around you can get up and walk around the carrier's at some point
I kind of like it. It's more immersive in a way. It's like when you park your car on a ferry or train (like the Eurostar), where you're sitting inside your vehicle, listening to the sounds the larger vehicle (the train) makes while it transports you.

I assume you know where to put this in, if not, you go to C:\Users\(Your name)\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics for windows users and Library/Application Support/Frontier Developments/Elite Dangerous/Options/Graphics for OS X
Then you edit GraphicsConfigurationOverride.xml, and replace the values.
All the grinding for a carrier and THAT is all you get... grief.
Absolutely crazy that this game is just developing "space legs" to get out of your ship. Years behind all other games like it. Things like ships and building better all be explorable
In the vacuum of space, how the hell can you hear the horn!?
radio signal being sent by the carrier, and your ship's computer is just imitating where the sound is coming from in 3D space for the Spacial awareness of the pilot, not a terrible idea for an actual system to have in a spacecraft that might be entering high traffic stations or dangerous regions
so do these come out of HD like a capital ship?
