Just bought my 12' GS. IT IS AMAZING! solid car all around. I'm also 6'4" and was concerned how I'd fit..... No problem! Big Win for a big guy! This car is nothing but fun!
Buick has been making performance luxury vehicles for a long time. They offered a supercharged l67 3.8 in their Regal GS before these turbo models back to the 90s. Its not a new move. I've always loved their luxury look with sleeper horsepower
I like the guy, I appreciate how he says what he thinks and isn't trying to inflate the ego of a car that he doesn't truly like. He acknowledges how far GM has come with this car, but there's no arguing the price point is a bit too high
@daren313 the regal engine is built off the LNF platform of the cobalt ss and saturn sky, I think the real disapointment is that gm didn't release this model in AWD like it was at the car show back in 2010, That to me is a real set back performance wise
The Euro version of this car (VXR Insignia in the UK for Vauxhall and OPC Insignia for the rest of Opel in Europe) has an AWD system. Surprised they haven't incorporated that in this.
I have a 01 GS with the exact same quarter mile time the 01 stock has 240 horsepower and 280 ft lb of torque comes with a supercharger instead of the turbo that the 2012 has but nevertheless the same exact outcome . Has numbers that are very close to the Lexus IS 350
MSRP for the Regal GS the way I would want it equipped is under $36,000. A comparable Audi A4 is about $5000 more. I would not consider that to be in the same price area. The additional equipment the test car has would move the A4 price upwards as well. Opinion is one thing, but this is a factual error.
There's FWD Hondas out there doing 9 second quarter miles, destroying Veyrons, so you can definitely do a lot with FWD car as long as it's balanced well and has enough grip. Unfortunately this car's as expensive as Altimas, Maximas, more expensive than a genesis coupe, etc. so I can't see why you'd buy this over those.
@EvenSteven2004 Just put 1600 more miles on car in a week. Heavy acceleration coming on or off the ramps and powering out of the turn. Zilch None Nada. All in GS mode on the standard all seasons. Uneven surfaces will make the tires search. Other than that the car funtastic.
Ahem "The company (opel) became a majority-stake subsidiary of the General Motors Corporation in 1929 and has been a wholly owned subsidiary since 1931" Thus GM did good with this car.
ya, the old iron duke in my 1986 pointiac 6000 had no pwoer, was loud, stalled ETC.... but it started with a little help (booster change and eather in the winter) fucking car had 200,000 miles on it when it FINALLY died...from no spark. to lazy to fix it, but would probably take 5 min. the new 4 bangers from GM are fucking amazing....ikd wtf your talking about. i wish they still had the 3.8 supercharged in here however.
And normal people your age aren't this immature. But you definitely prove me wrong. Grow up some and stop talking trash on youtube. There is no age limit on a car and no one can "outgrow" one.
you mean like with saab? where they continued to ignore gm's cheap decisions that would make their cars crap until gm got pissed and dropped them, this is a opel/vauxhall insignia and it's been developed there... gm only change some interior and exterior bits and stuff... but because it is a insignia i wouldn't mind driving one - it's a decent car
Please go to the reputable reviewers. This guy is out to lunch and possibly dinner. There was no torque steer when I mashed the pedal on two separate test drives. Also, this is not a fat mans car. The seats are bolstered perfectly to hold you in when the GS button is pushed. And please note I rather drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. This car is a blast to drive and feels fast, in comfort and quiet, without getting beat up. Thanks GM for putting a manual in and making a fun car!!!
Yes you can buy an audi a4 for that price however........your not gonna get 270hp. 211 hp for the audi a4.....or 270hp for the GS. GM did a good job with this car.
@stevenzoz He said it suffers from a little torque-steer, you call him an idiot, and then you say it has "barely any" torque-steer. "A little" and "barely any" sound pretty similar.
Great design from Buick but they went the wrong route with the engine. Instead of a four cylinder with 270 bhp they should of upped the muscle with a v-6 turbo that created over 300+ bhp and they would've been selling this like hotcakes. Still a nice car.
"A wholly owned subsidiary" (GM OWNED) Its a great car......and why is everyone butt hurt about GM/Saab....in the early 2000's ) GM made saab more reliable than most cars out there. And yah GM dropped the ball on Saab just like they dropped the ball on Saturn.......and you know why they did???? Because the brand wasn't going anywhere. It was never too impressive to begin with. Nothing compared to the likes of other European cars (Audi and BMW) Saab sucked get over it.
ahhaha.. gm made saab more reliable... ok no no this is too much... no need to argue anymore here :) p.s. i drive a volkswagen why should i care anyway
There's a couple sporty FWD cars out there, they might not be the best but at least they keep people from spinning out causing crashes and raising the insurance premium on their car. Trust me you can have some fun in FWD drive cars. I love RWD cars but you borrow them to a friend (who never drove a RWD ever) your asking for trouble.
As for the A4 comparison? A4 - more expensive, not as attractive, notoriously glitchy electronics, and here at least, terrible dealers. Not particularly superior anywhere but interior.
Am I the only one who remembers how HORRIBLE the 4 cylinders from GM are ? This 2 liter engine will self destruct in less then a year. 2 liters ! ... Are you kidding !
and do not even get me going about 2 Liters!! What is that not enough displacement for you? I have a 1.3 Liter car that will SMOKE anything you have my friend!! check out a 13B rotary (1.3 Liter) 255 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 217 ft-lb of torque at 5,000 rpm or better yet a 20B rotary (1962cc 1.962 Liter) 285hp at 6500 rpm and 295 ft lbs of torque at 3000 rpm
lol I was on-line and seen an ad for a 2012 Regal GS 6speed RWD! I got all excited and was thinking finally about time! A car people could have fun with. Wrong!! they must have meant awd or something, Well just another heavy ass overpriced FWD POS! Lol better off buying a cobalt ss then this high priced turd! At least the lsj ecotec is a tried and true platform, I guess one can argue the same here do to this being an Opel insignia.👎👎 sorry not for American market. NEXT!

Hey man how's the GS holding up? How many miles? I'm thinking about getting one. If you get this can you like it so I get a notification lol thanks

Saw the GS in person--it's gorgeous. Wish there was a blue.
I'm thinking about purchasing one, any regrets?
Such a great looking machine! I would only get one with a 6 speed manual though.

@EvenSteven2004
Thanks for your well thought out response. Best of luck with your Civic.
Opel/Vauxhall is GM's European division... So GM did a good job with this car.... (in essence)

I had what is probably the same engine in an '03 Saab. Worked fine through 70K when it was sold.
similar engine but not the same the later saab 9-5's had this engine.
If They made a performance option for the LaCross, it would kill sales on the Regal.

The Buick Regal GNX was the fastest U.S. production car in 1987.
They are also considering fuel economy--that's why the 4 cyl.

Got mine for 24, 500 a steal.

Expensive, but it's better than the ones that have that stupid push button ignition.
FWD TT_____TT sad wheel and back side looks good tho and the HP
Love the way it looks, but front wheel drive?!
Every single other review I've read or watched specifically mentions a LACK of torque steer. Where is your credibility?
I want a rwd buick regal turbo with at least a v6 and i will sign away my next 36 moths
I like it.

Beautiful car. I hope its bite is as good as its bark. I would only get the manual trans. for this car - screw the auto..

Looks like I'm not the only one who thinks EvenSteven2004 needs to get a life, a girlfriend and get laid.
you mean opel did a good job in europe...
GM needs to cut it out with this V4 stuff!!! This car would be a monster with a V8 in it.
$39,000?!?! Are they serious? Way to overprice your product Buick/GM.
I would never buy this over anything unless it involved walking.
just buy an older buick with a supercharged v6 engine 3800 series II for i dont know 3 or 4 grand and save yourself lots of cash =)
opel insignia
Am I the only one who remembers how HORRIBLE the 4 cylinders from GM are ? This 2 liter engine will self destruct in less then a year. 2 liters ! ... Are you kidding !
obviously YOU do not know what a Quad-4 is and how incredibly wicked that GM/Buick 4-cylinder is!!!
and do not even get me going about 2 Liters!! What is that not enough displacement for you? Maybe old farts will quit driving Buicks now.
Just a FWD appliance pretending to be sporty.
Please tell me you have a silver head of hair with that comment.
FWD WTF
my mom drives this
