That’s why car batteries don’t go in the trash cans because they can explode and catch fire and you’re supposed to call the electric truck for that cool.
car batteries only explode because of the acid in them produce a gas called hydrogen so a solid state battery must have started the fire when it came into contact with a bare metal surface creating a spark if a car battery is dead it won't explode on it's own only when exposed to a spark or open flame will it explode I've seen this happen in the past years working on cars
little bit perplexed but is LASAN policy to wait for fire department to arrive and then eject the load? seems a bit risky to wait for FD to arrive when you don't know if the fire is intense enough to destroy the hydraulic system or cab before FD arrives. most places usually have policies stating that at the first sign of smoke or fire, the driver needs to find an open area and eject the load immediately to prevent damage to the truck
9:39 The driver explains that if he had just dumped it, it would have "gone wild" ...I imagine while it is in the back, it is somewhat contained and restricted from oxygen, so it would burn more slowly. Had he dumped the load, that whole pile would be engulfed and blowing around by the time FD arrived.
@@exploreraa983 that's what I thought too is perhaps he wanted to wait for FD to show up to be able to reduce flying embers or whatever else that could cause a fire to spread. perhaps that thought process came from sandalwood fire where a dumped load caused a wildfire. the issue I take with it is that those garbage trucks are not 100% airtight, and onboard they can carry numerous potential accelerants that are not insulated. the reason why many companies mandate immediate dumping/ejection is to not only to save the truck, but to prevent the truck itself becoming a fire hazard in case the fire manages to rupture the hydraulic or fuel system before FD arrives
I use to work for a garbage company. I remember one morning just getting to work and in the “yard” as we called it one of the front loader trucks was just sitting there burning up. Idk what caused it but the entire truck burned up. It was a sight to see I tell you.
I'm still not entirely used to the new helmets that the LAFD have. These are of a much more traditional shape than the previous "modern" ones with their high crowns and small brims. NB most "modern" American fire helmets have a low crown, unlike a particular type popular along the west coast of the US, that the LAFD once had.
About 2 years ago, after having the previous design since the 80s or 90s. I believe that this was to do with eye protection. The previous helmets had no eye or face protection, except for some having goggles attached. The new ones have a hidden foldaway eye shield. I imagine that the lower crown but much bigger brim would take some getting used to. Captains' helmets are the conventional red, rather than the tomato colour of the predecessors.
I watched until about 07:45, not one drop of water sprayed into the truck. Just screwing around hosing down the garbage on the street. Gosh, maybe we could hose the back of the truck, can see smoke still coming out the front end of it.....
@@stanpatterson5033 Ret Vol FF, My thoughts also. Truck officer would have been embarrassed had the leftovers in, or truck itself caught and burned it up while he had his guys cool the pavement mess. Amazing!
I would think that as soon as you see flames you would squirt water on it I don't understand why I've seen so many fires the fire and fires just watch the flames for a while
they didn't want the whole damn pile to start burning, didn't you see they drove forward to dump the burning stuff away from the big pile? think before you talk.
Chlorine for swimming pools will catch s garbage truck on fire. Had a truck catch on fire when it picked up garbage that had a five gallon bucket of chlorine in the trash.. i did the same thing as this driver did next to a firehouse.. lithium batteries would cause a fire .
I don't know if the hydraulics were damaged or if the driver was timid in ejecting, but it took a really long time to dump the load. At least it was recycling and not stinky trash
they waited on the FD to dump so that it stayed contained. Smoldering inside the truck, the contents have less oxygen, so the fire burns slower and is easier to extinguish if caught in time.
Probably the cleanest interior of a trash hopper on a garbage truck
if it wasn't before it is now after the FD got done
amazon is to blame for this
That’s my truck #180!!!!!! Great video Mason!!
Boss: What? The truck is on fire? So? Dump the load and finish your route. Don't come back until it's done.
That is a sign of a sick boss
That fire fighter standing under the tailgate had me nervous, especially after the hydraulic system could have been compromised from the fire.
theres nothing like a fire in garbage to wake you up at least it was caught fast and watered down Good job on doing the job
Wtf was that Tesla driver thinking 😂
he lets the computer think for him.

Nicely done, they saved the truck. Time to clean up that mess
Going to be a nice clean dump truck
Damn smart to get all that trash out of there instead of losing a $150,000 garbage truck too
400,000 !
Nice video
That’s gonna be a fun cleanup 😬
That's really bad I hope that the truck doesn't burn
Nothing like a good, old fashioned, dumpster fire!
Probably smells lovely 🥰 🥰

When did they switch over? I too am used to see the other shape. This coming from a retired east coast firefighter.

Dang that sucks man 😢😮😮
This is why Car Batteries or Electronics Don't belong in the Garbage!
Boss, were gonna need a broom & a dust pan to clean up after this one.
Poor driver and poor truck I hope they are ok 😢
looked like the truck and driver were fine
I feel like they could have dumped this closer to the edge or in a parking lot so as to not cause as much delays with clean up part
Wow 😮
Lesson learned: DONT TRASH YOUR BATTERIES
Did a bucket loader and dump truck
Come to clean it up? Thats what I’m interested in lol
Yea
Looks more like Recycle Truck.
Cool video but it kinda of sad that a garbage truck caught on fire
So they brought the hose out but didn't load it until the truck dumped all its content further delaying the process.

Someone threw away a LiPO battery. Probably an old cellphone or something.

I got the trash truck love fire
Lipo batteries causing all kinds of problem in garbage trucks and scrap yards

Yes

Who is going to pick up all that trash? What a mess.
The city usually sends in a Rear Load or a Front Load with a carry can once the trash pile is deemed safe to haul by the LAFD.
That's what I was going to say
Could also make quick work of it with a skid loader and a rolloff container
@@TrashBulldogProductionsand a street sweeper as well
Maybe som litium batterys in the trash
Dumping as slow as possible. Geeeeeeez
Can the truck dump only push so far and then has to cycle back? I thought it was just one hydraulic cylinder that could be extended all in one move.

must be hard to make a flexible hose that's heat proof
They need a removable lid on top that is large enough to squirt water at high flow. 🤷🏻

Damn bro I didn’t expect to see this. When did it catch fire
Last Monday
@@GarbagetrucksofLAdamn. Is the truck getting repaired?
Looks like a very clean load of recycling, so what would have caused such a fire? Maybe someone illegally tried to "recycle" a lithium -ion battery?
Is the truck still drivable?
It was working today
Nah see u can notice its cause the trash got too hot in the truck and some electric shit made it burn

It all goes to the same place

It’s separated from garbage and yard waste

I looks like it was time to head for the landfill
