I hope people watch this and it gives them the knowledge they need probably sooner than later. Great Vid, guest, and topic. Jim was great to listen and learn from. For people with Young Onset like us its huge and very important to realize your rights under the ADA. Hearing it from someone like Jim who practices law can be a game changer for alot of folks, and give piece of mind. When I was first Diagnosed I was tight lipped. I thought I was being sneaky and when it came down to it, Jim hit the nail on the head, coworkers read between the lines and knew that things weren't normal. I heard about the ADA stuff and accommodations but what if they didn't want to accommodate after telling them etc etc. Luckily I entrusted my Boss (great friend and head of HR). She told me thank you for telling her then she said putting on my HR hat now..that was the best thing you could of done, here's why...and she educated me. Another thing she said that Jim mentioned too, was when I felt I couldn't do certain part of my job, communication was the key. We meet monthly now, but realistically talk ever other day. :) Changed some Duties around and my stresses are gone. :)

Excellent podcast! I met up with an Employment Attorney who gave me excellent advice. Once Parkinson's impacts your work, disclose the need for reasonable accommodations to your employer. I was assumed drunk at work (stumbling, slurring words), so HR had some alcohol treatment recommendations. Oops. Finally, let the cat out of the bag. It was Parkinson's.

My son was diagnosed last fall and was changing jobs this past week. And this episode about employment and disclosure was absolutely on point. For us. Your podcast is greatly appreciated by me, his mother and by him. My father and 4 of his siblings all had parkinson's as well as a cousin. In my generation. It is wonderful to see the communications that you provide that were not available when my dad was struggling with his disease. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this video. I am currently in the process of changing jobs. Wasn't sure how to answer the question about having a disability. I don't feel disabled but I do some difficulties at times. Thank you so much for this video.

Hello how does apply to disability short and long-term insurance

I would advise any older person to purchase a long-term employment disability insurance plan before you have anything happen, especially if your income is a necessity.

That typically goes into effect after 6 months of sick time.

@@jnm.624 If you don't have 6 months of savings, then you supplement it with a short-term plan.
