      That’s actually super interesting.
      If we did a study about what tropes/premises/antagonist forced people are writing about, the stories coming out of public consciousness, I bet we'd see some interesting trends over time.
      Like, what’s usually the antagonist of a story? Man vs man, man vs nature, man vs self kinda stuff.
      A lot of these plots sorta involve living under the suffocating constraints of an authoritarian, inflexible government, and the plot involves breaking free, changing things to be better, more human, democratic. Maybe it’s Emblematic of a lot of young people these days feeling like you have no control in personal life or something, everything is decided for you.
      Or this could be overthinking it! In the video, it’s only a few peoples’ viewpoints of the world after all, but the “dystopian government” thing is def a popular trope. This lady in particular seems to use the overpopulation trope as just a quick way to insert drama and trauma stakes into the story, but theres always more to this if you dig deeper.

    • @cupriferouscatalyst3708
      @cupriferouscatalyst3708 Рік тому +8

      @@seabb what's really interesting about it too is that the trend has really gone mainstream, and clearly there are people who could be considered part of the "establishment" making tons of money off of it (the people who own the majority of shares in a company that owns a company that owns a company that provides financial backing for franchises like the Hunger Games and Black Mirror), and I wonder what those people think about the trend.

    i commented this on the last video but now to see how well it’s doing and the other comments here i feel validated: people wanna see more happy videos of people enjoying things! it feels like every video on youtube now is a) tiktok drama recaps b) people just shitting on things they hate for little to no reason or c) a deep dive on how horrible and awful the world is. i think the last one has its place in society and i’m all for people being well informed but the intense trend towards negativity and how algorithms reward making people angry and upset instead of being happy SUCKS. that’s why just seeing jordan be pleasantly entertained so refreshing!

    Steamed dumplings vs pan fried. Essentially, the difference between steamed and fried dumplings is the exterior, whether you like the exterior crispy or soft. Many people say fried dumplings are tastier because they are fried in oil and have a crispy and flavorful exterior which gives them something extra. However in my opinion, nothing beats the convenience of steamed.

    • @seabb
      @seabb Рік тому +35

      That’s actually so interesting, there’s a lot of different ways you can go with that premise. Cool thought experiment!
      - feels like it’s basically the trope “the fear that by confessing love to your best friend, you'll destroy that relationship forever” but with higher stakes.
      - in this world, do you only ever have one soulmate ordained by the universe for you? Is it not guaranteed you'll find them unless you look hard enough? If they be anywhere on the earth, Then maybe people choose a lifestyle where they're always traveling, always going out to meet new people through designated meetups, but constantly saying "I love you" early on in an aquaintanceship so they don't waste their time. After all, what's stopping them from shouting ILY to everybody till they catch upon the one they don't forget immediately?
      - - Perhaps, do you have to truly love the person and confess or it doesn't work and you still remember the person? Then, you must have to question your own confession of love to see if it was true, or else if you don't lose your memory immediately, you might assume it's your soulmate even if your feelings aren't love. Then other people could be tricked into also confessing because clearly you remember them so you must be their soulmate, even if they're unsure, and now you've got some false relationship drama 😳
      - - is the memory erasure a one-time thing? If you can still rebuild a relationship after confessing, that's potential for lots of drama. Potential for a manipulative situation where person A always confesses to B and consistently erases their memory of them, either keeps sticking around by pretending they just met, OR gaslights them by saying that the reason B doesn't remember them is because B was the one who confessed and lost their memory, when they really didn't.
      - if both people forget based on one persons confession, then it seems mutually beneficial? Only the people around them would ever know and be able to tell them, can't be hurt if yuh don't remember the pain. Maybe bad time if you alrdy have kids and it's a false relationship (or it's a one night stand and person A doesn't remember the baby daddy!)
      - Mainly I'm interested in the mechanics, the in-universe explanation for why the world works like that. Is it just hand-wave law of physics ordained by the universe? Man-made thru science-fictiony gene editing or chip implantation by an authoritarian government? or even magic-y reasons? The ability to suspend belief of the mechanics is kinda what takes this premise from something totally random and shallow to something more substantial, a solid plot for YA shenanigans, and a tangible world for your characters to interact in. I think the fun part is when you build the world and its rules and then plop some characters in there, and see what interesting dynamics come outta there.
      - anyway, I haven’t seen this tiktok but just your comment gave me lots of fun food for thought. Every once in a while ya gotta take something to its logical conclusion and write a useless essay about it! LMAO

      @@seabb this was an interesting read! idk if it’ll answer any of your questions but I’ll try to explain the plot the best I can. so basically this girl had a really great relationship with her boyfriend and he wanted to say “I love you” because he was sure they were soulmates. she was scared of the idea but eventually agreed. he said he loved her and immediately forgot who she was. she was heartbroken and determined to win him back. she also told her best friend about all that happened. a little while later she sees her best friend kissing her ex boyfriend and she’s devastated. she confronts her best friend who profusely apologizes but the girl is so mad that she decides she wants to lose all memory of her. the best friend begs her not to, but the girl says “I love you” to her and forgets everything. the main girl continues with her plan to win her ex boyfriend back and her former best friend reintroduces herself and tries to help her. she and her former best friend start to become friends again at which point the main girl makes a confession. the tiktok ends with her looking at her former best friend/ new friend and telling her “I never forgot you”

    The last video brings up so many important questions; like, are lengthy sentences a symbol of wealth? Do teachers get paid a lot? If teachers have to talk all day and if they're in charge of giving people the information they need to thrive; I imagine that they'd be paid very well.
