I remember a lot of these similar "anti-establishment" concepts were common on Tumblr back in the day, as well as soulmate based ones. Interesting to see how it's evolved.

Just now as Jordan was trying to describe the POV-trend I realized a comparison could be made to the spontaneous, imaginary scenarios (within a real-world foundation) I've observed being proposed and discussed between the older children at the day care I work at.
F.ex. three girls are sitting in a play-group talking to each other (about the real world around them) and normally all will quite often throw out a sentence beginning with "imagine if X!", "Imagine that X!", "Pretend that I've...X!"
It makes this trend kind of cute to me all of a sudden , which is a first for me with Tik-Tok trends :P
Very interesting insight. It resonates with my personal theory that the whole foundation of this trend was created in a childs mind that held onto it through youth and used it as some kind of coping mechanism for stress, tension, anxiety or conflict caused by the surrounding world that a young person can most likely not change anything about, similar to the people who daydream excessively because theyre being bullied. I was one of those people. Also I was clinging onto my kindergarden fantasies throughout my whole life until now because of destabilizing changes that happened back then, just for me it grew into psychosis, dellusion and obsessive voices. But sometjing just tells me that what we saw here might be another way of, maybe not as extreme disturbances in a young mind.
I feel like so much of UA-cam these days is just people shitting on things they hate and for Jordan to actually just give us genuine fascination and appreciation of something is such a refreshment. I want more of this internet and less of everyone just trying to be a hater all the fucking time.
Same, people almost always talk about something or someone that’s bad, problematic, etc. (to be fair it needs to be discussed for change to happen) but I think it’s great to have somebody talking about something that’s just fun and interesting

There's shitting on trivial things which is pointless but lots of youtubers are criticizing things that needs to be called out like racist politicians, dangerous tik tok trends, ect. They are not just hating for the sake of hating.
Such a good point. Ugh I had to take a break from certain channels and social media because I realised that sentiment fed into my real life. And I would automatically antagonise or hate on things for no actual reason 🙁

@@alder4612 as someone who has chronic illnesses, I LOVE the spoon theory. Its so helpful to explain to people that I really do want to do something, but I just physically cannot. Or, being physically able, and mentally exhausted.
@alder it’s kind of the exact opposite of spoon theory, because she can recharge at will. I have rheumatoid arthritis. If I could jam a lightning connector up my hooha and get through the day I’d do it like a shot.

this really reminds me of tumblr's mini fictions - often one person would just post a prompt and people would write short stories in response, and make additions and follow ups. theres at least one blog that was devoted to posting these sorts of prompts, and its one of the great things about the tumblr ecosystem

Actually a lot of these ideas come from there! I was never rly a tumblr user, but I saw a lot of posts about soulmate AUs of from tumblr, and those are a really common POV material!

Gotta point out here that the hunger games was always anti-establishment. Because it's YA it has a younger protag who teens can more easily relate to, but the premise wasn't about cliques or whatever. It was more a critique of the society of the spectacle. The world was called panem bc bread and circuses. The hunger games was the way the capitol controlled the populace.
What i'm trying to convey is that the hunger games (and teen dystopia in general) already have that anti-establishment message baked into the genre. Divergent was one of many franchises that tried to replicate the success of the hunger games but is imo much less successful developing that theme and therefore comes across as simply an analogy for high school cliques.

@@froggy5748 Necessary warning whenever people mention eating dandelions: if you're going to go out and forage for dandelions to use as food, please make sure you know both what a dandelion actually looks like/when you look for it and the look alike plants in your area. Multiple people have died from mistaking coltsfoot for dandelion and, beyond that, a ton of plants look like dandelion.

I saw one of these before from another ytber where the story pov was a certian number of words had to be said within a certain time frame or you die.
There were two versions. One where they split up someone's remaining count among multiple people to all try to stay alive....and one where the parents legit said (paraphrased) "we gave you all your sibling's words so that you'll die. By the way, we're going to disney land without you, because you'll be dead. Have fun being dead"

Going to be honest, I’m rlly glad Jordan’s reactions to these is more than just “haha cringe teenager”. Never sat down to watch these sorts of videos on my own, but I have seen a fair few videos reacting to them and almost all of them not only clown on the content, but the creators as well, when they’re just having fun.
I’m 21 and honestly I love them it is nice to see them not being hated on bc maybe it’s a little “cringe” to some but it’s so entertaining. Maybe it’s the fact I was a film kid or always tried to write weird fantasy stories and was into YA dystopian novels idk but it’s really nice to see people create and realise these concepts with basically just their phone and themselves
