I remember when I was working in Germany in 1973 when I was 19. I got sick. I probably had the flu. So I just stayed home. I didn't have a phone, so I couldn't call my boss. I just stayed in bed for a few days. (My boss thought I had been drinking, and had a hangover. I don't drink at all!) Finally, my boss called my landlord to ask about me. I then discovered that I was required to go to a doctor for an exam, and get a note from the doctor. I spoke some basic German at the time. Fortunately, the doctor spoke good English. When I returned to work (I worked on the Bobsled Track in Berchtesgaden), my co-workers thought I had been drinking for a few days!
I like how this short film shows how confusing and challenging something as simple as going to the doctor can be, especially when you are just learning a new language.

Usually these episodes are really unrealistic in German friendliness. But they did get it right when the women seated beside her gave her a funny look when she greeted her. Nowadays the woman would just text furiously on phone and not look up.

@@sabinalemus Yes, I'm aware. They literally have lots of regulations and laws about "noise schedules" at home. I just wasn't aware it extended to talking there in particular.

It's not a bazaar in Istanbul but a doctor's office in Germany, so not at all awkward. It's talking to strangers is in fact awkward
I'm not a German but I still wouldnt wanna talk to absolute strangers when in a Hospital waiting to meet the doctor. Also I would prefer maintaining silence. I think Germans have better civic understanding.

Wie ich mich erinnere, die Frau bei der Reception hat gesagt "Und 10 Euro bitte", als sie von Frau Coskum die Versicherungskarte angefragt hat. Aber jetzt ist diese Szene geschneidet worden.

No, you got it wrong. She is a "private patient". That means she is privately insured, so she gets to see the doctor first. Other patients are publicly insured.

I think the lady was creeped out by the way she said "Guten Tag". Maybe Germans are more reserved and this comes out as rude for other people.

Ich denke, die Situation ist ein bisschen übertrieben. Die Leute im Wartezimmer sind sehr kalt und streng. Aber unbedingt ist die Ärztin nett. Ich habe etwa Krankenhäuser in Deutschland besucht und nicht nur die Ärzte sondern auch Krankenschwestern waren sehr nett und treu.
