Hi Joe - it’s Big Rodders in Ireland. Really enjoyed the very informative chat with Nathan. I can’t help thinking that you’re going to pay for this fine weather later on in the season so make hay while the sun shines!
This is great. Is he able to tell anything about the strength of the economy by the amount of business that the blocking Mills are doing? I would think that the demand for shipping products like blocking and pallets would go down if the economy goes down.
Joe I really enjoyed this video, lots of good info. Good to see the logs rolling in should keep you well supplied for a while. Nathan seems to be pretty sharp and knows what he's doing. He may become one of your best friends going forward especially supplying logs like that. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving.
It looks like you might have found a "suitable replacement" for Log Hauler Jesse! Nathan's truck is not all "beat up" with "tons of welds and rust"! However, Nathan's sense of humor doesnt yet "meet the high bar" that Jesse has set! I would suggest that Nathan take some personality tuttoring instruction "at the feet" of Log Hauler Jesse, and come back this January for another review. But, as a rookie, he shows "good promise". Also, dont let him recycle any of Jesse's jokes! Make him come up with "new material" that I havent yet heard. PS: Tell Jesse that I just spotted a nice new seat for his logging truck. He can get it for a "five finger discount" if he lifts it off Nathan's truck when he is not watching!
I read recently that the USA was the biggest importer of lumber in the world. I’m guessing that’s going to end in the next administration, and the price of energy is going to drop. This might equate to a higher demand for domestically produced logs and lumber which will raise the price temporarily. The industry has always been cyclical, I’ve got near forty years in it, and we’re due for another spike. What will that do to firewood? I’m guessing they’ll be a glut of cheap logs on the market and a reduced demand with heating costs softening.
My first reaction to running the blocking logs is my waste is WAY up. Prob one off-cut per log. When I am able to cut them in half myself I use a tape measure with my marks that gives me one end with all perfect 16" cuts
Hey Joe, here in southern Ohio the only thing keeping the market going is walnut and white oak. The oak goes to Speyside . They make whiskey barrels. Crazy times.
Ya it's rough times for some of the guys here in and around Mcarthur. I'm over near Zaleski and I know of loggers that are switching to dirt work or whatever they can to make it. Sucks for the firewood guys that buy because the firewood loads have stopped.
Great video, I have a logger in my area that is offering me some very nice white oak and red oak logs for $32 a ton, I went with my trailer and got a small load, about 4 tons, and he then offered to me, his truck to haul them myself for the same price, neither him or any of his guys have a CDL, what do you think of the price per ton and truck offer? Have a great day Sir!

Get them while you can, Nathan might be a regular now on your channel, those are premium firewood logs. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone.
That load of logs looks about perfect for the Japa 👍 Did you ever think you'd be drowning in logs? I guess it's a good thing 😊
Happy Thanksgiving Joe and Family
get logs when its sunny. cut and split firewood anytime. stack and wait. deliver when the customer calls. repeat.
Happy Thanksgiving Joe!!!
Loads of good information. Love the comedy routine at the end.
Pun intended
Nice word choice Roger. You could be a writer!

Good to see, but also sad to see Log hauler Jessie's replacement.
Well, he isn't LHJ's replacement. Jesse is still around. I have dealt with Nathan in the past. Super cool dude

Interesting conversation, Joe! Nathan’s a great “guest”…with industry insights. 👍👍
I am impressed with what he has done. A good friend to have!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
Happy Thanksgiving and many blessings, Joe!
You too! I’m thankful for the support Mark
For me, I'll take it down to 1.5-2". Limbwood, in other words. Aka no splitters.
Time to get cutting Joe

Just keep those logs coming. Thats one less thing to worry about. Have a great Thanksgiving Joe.
I hear you, will do.
I would think that scrag logs would be better for you with the processor. If it is more efficient it could be worth the extra price of the logs.

Get while the getting is good. Does your landlord have any other spots you can stick some logs? Never can have enough logs
hi there interesting show , best to all john
Glad you enjoyed it John!
ever thought of buying a mill to cut lumber with your over size logs added value custom cutting
It is always in the back of my mind but I just don't have the interest right now. Maybe someday Terry
what do you pay for a load like that ??

I haven't a clue about weight or tonnage. Sorry can't be of any help. My understanding is only with volume
