- This weekend we got out our John Deere 105 Corn Special to finish up the 2020 corn harvest. Back in early April we planted about 20 acres of 38" row corn for our show, 100 Years of HorsePOWER. Due to COVID we had to cancel our show, but still had to harvest this corn. After a little head adjustment, the 105 did an excellent job and handled the 200+ bushel corn great. Along with all of this, we managed to cover a couple hundred acres of bean ground a couple miles from the farm. Stay tuned for more 105 Combine action! Thanks for watching, and I will see you on the next one!
Yes older folks know more than this generation will ever will about working.
Drove one of these for many years in the 70's
Oh man lots of memories watching the old 105. I used to run a 105 as a kid. Ran a 4 row corn header and went as fast as the engine had power to run it.
105 runs pretty sweet.
Guys like your grandpa are a wealth of experience and knowledge.
Amazing classic John Deere combine in action! Mike from Missouri
We started off with an old 95 dad kept it and Bought a 105. Both had four row heads, and we could combine five rows of beans. both were awesome combines
Like how you respect your grandpa
The smile on your granddad,s face was priceless!!!! As proud of that machine as the day it was new!!! And him telling how to operate it. Pride!!!!!! Thanks for making this video!
My Granddad always wanted a Deere combine got a used 6600 and the a used 7720 when I was younger. Spent alot of hours with him in the cab!!! I bought a couple of 40 Deeres with 10' grain heads. Granddad was so happy to see me cut wheat with it. He's gone now but have the memories!!!!! Thanks a bunch!!!!
Owned and ran. 95 in the 70s. Chevy gas engine. Put a good sample in the 80 bu tank. Fan in the upper right corner of the cab blew dirty air on you. Different world from my S670! Memories.....
My Dad had two 105's and we ran them for months every harvest. Barley , spring wheat, in July and August then millet, flax and finally sunflowers usually in November. Started running them when I was 9 years old.
Does such an old machine still work properly? Does it leave crop in the field or take too long? Just curious.
I think an experienced operator could set the combine up to catch close to the same amount of crop, but even if you could get the parts, keep them running and find enough operators to run the machines a JD 105 would not make any economic sense to run. In my opinion depending on the size of the operation at the very oldest of a machine would be the John Deere 8820 Titan 2 would be the oldest, smallest combines to make sense to run. And unless it was about a thousand acre farm that would still be too small. But if you ask 10 people you'll get 10 different opinions.
I love those combines from 45 on up
That's handy dandy nice
Hearing final drive whine brought back memories. Also split doors,if bottom door was closed, top open for air, then closing top door and not placing fingers just right,a finger nail would be lost.
Had a 105 for about 10 years from the early’90s to the early 2000’s, nice combine in it’s day.
Another great video! Sure was great seeing you guys run in Rantoul again.
I went to tech school at Chanute afb....in the winter of '81....man was it cold marching to school in the mornings..good times in the USAF
I remember operating a 105 one year cutting beans for a farmer in North Monroe County Alabama. I think it was 1977. Hearing it start up with that belt slapping brought back a ton of memories.
At 9:30, it’s funny how you remember the distinct sound of the final drive gear whine, especially when you pull back on the variable speed with the sound of that in-line six engine!
I really like the older farm equipment run on the farms I'm a big John Deere fan
Happy holidays and stay safe from covid
when every thing was still metal. i would love to run one of those. there simple and it seems like you could really enjoy it.
Really cool to see that little guy still working 🙂
Hi it's Don my first combine I ran was a 105 brings back the good old days ! Nice Drone footage tell your grandpa hang on to that machine you don't see them around anymore .
Thanks for watching. We have another 105 and a 55, they aren't going anywhere!
My first combine was a 95EB. Hydrostatic Drive. Man I was awesome
brings back so many memories when i used to run a ole 45 and 95 thank yall so much keep her running
Love the old machine. That you for the video
Thanks for watching!
I love this video thanks so much🤠❤️
Nice 105, we had a 1967 55 with a 235 two-row head when I was younger...
Thank you! A 55 would be a neat machine to run.
@@RennerStockFarms they're not bad to run, extreme pucker factor in sidehills with a full grain tank!
Good to see some still running out there. We have two 105s (one diesel and other is gas) and a 95 diesel. The 105 diesel has hydrostatic drive. Not very common I'm sure.
You should get a 4 row 30 inch head for it. Love the video. That combine brought back some great memories and times.
I think we have one around the farm somewhere, glad you liked the video!
That dust ain't bad... Try running a 45 open station... lol.
I also have a bin extension on my parts 95 that will also work on a 105 you just spread it out to wider holes to fit the 105 bin.
I ran a 105 open cab in a rice field over a summer when I was a kid. Ran it about 3 days and had enough and quit lol
She's a beaut!
I have a 69 105 hydro diesel. Ran a 40 series 8R22” on it. Held 143 Bu dry corn with factory ext. had to dump in old gravity box. Unload Auger couldn’t get over side of hopper trailer.
Nice video! Looks like the unloading auger just barely reaches the sides of the semi 😆
Thanks Jared, it was nerve-racking that's for sure. We tried loading tarp-side and that didn't work.
We ran a 105 diesel hydro for 15 years. Pump was set up max with a second radiator to keep it cool. Shelled a bunch of 200+ BPA corn pushing a 643 corn head. Shelling corn we would remove the bottom screen, tailings elevator belt and cover the tailings auger trough. We had a speed up pulley for the clean grain elevator. In really good corn we could put 1000 bushels an hour through it in a long field with an auger wagon.
Love it I did subscribe🤠
Thank you!
Last combine my dad owned was a 105 corn special. I wonder how different things would be if John Deere had never switched away from the cab being mounted in the middle.
That's interesting to think about!
Man that's a rare combine. I own a John Deere 45EB Combine.
Send us a picture!
@@RennerStockFarms You guys on Instagram?
@@RennerStockFarms It's sent to you.
I used my grandfather's JD 95 combine to harvest 250 acres of corn with a three row header from 1970 - 2000. my mom bought a new JD combine in 1995 and quit raising corn. I am sad since both mom and dad passed on before they sold the farm for 2- 300,000 sq ft+ shopping centers.
We did all our corn with a New Idea picker and a New Idea picker sheller.
Took me a minute to realize the in-cab video was flipped! I was like why the hell would they out the clutch on the right lol
Those right foot clutches are sneaky lol
I'm not a Deere man but a video like this inspires me to look for a nice Gleaner G or CII. Been some nice ones I've passed on with no shed space but I could rent space or been thinking on building a 50 or 80 foot extension to my shop. Even if I tarped one for awhile, better than the scrappers gobbling them up. I do have an E that I've had since 1988 or so. Also have an L2 and R52 but they aren't toys.
Our neighbor found someone who would swap out his 105 gas engine for, I believe, a 4020 Diesel engine. They DID ❤️ gasoline‼️
friend of mine had two 105,s only drawback was that drag chain under cyl other than that they were bullit proof
Hey man is that a diesel 105? I own 3 95s 1 corn special. Then 2 55s I love these machines really want a 105 cs one day!
Working on reviving a gas 105 Corn Special with 435 corn attachment. Glad to see Sunny Grove isn't the only ones still playing with old combines. We have a 45 and 95EB as well. The 95 was responsible for our wheat harvest this year
The old combines are neat to run, running our 105 made me wish we had more than 20 acres of wide row corn to harvest. Send us pictures of your combines on Facebook, we would love to see them!
@@RennerStockFarms I can do that! I'll also send you an invite to a fledgling new group on there centered around vintage corn harvest and processing equipment.
Have you ever measured your crop loss out the back , it would be interesting to know and compare to the new combines .
Probably better..
Better as in less than new ones?
@@cathol1c778 That has been my experience.
LOVE this video. The quote "she's a dandy" made me smile. I attended HS in Belleville IL, but am from Nebraska. Is that 105 a diesel? My dad had a 95, but our wheat acreage (and his 3 drills pulled by a 4wd Wagner tractor) was way ahead of what even a 105 could do, so he hired custom cutters to take off some of our wheat. He did start growing corn, but I don't think he had a corn header for the 95, so I'm not sure how we harvested that. The inside the cab shots are great, but it seems like the video is backwards (things that are supposed to be on the right are on the left, etc).
Thanks for watching! Yes I had some camera difficulties and for some reason it flipped a couple shots. What ever happened to your Wagner 4wd?
@@RennerStockFarms Everything got auctioned off when he passed away in 1973. Around the early 1990s, I happened to be driving some backroads in that same county; I turned a corner and there it was sitting in a field looking like it was still getting used. I think it was a WA 14. BTW, I have an ION Air Pro 2 action cam, and it does the same thing--just randomly records one video with the image flipped so left is right.
What was the capacity on the graintank? Corn quality looked gre at. And ground speed? 2.5 mph?.Never seen one run..My first was 7700 with 843 loved that old girl..keep up the great work !
had a head like that on a 4400 seeing you adjust brought back memories what machine are you running in corn farmer john
at 2:12 or so, I don't any safety stands down. I think my 105 had them
Last combine we owned was john deer 45 wished I had a 105 th I s is Leon gainous from CAIRO ga
“I think she’s a dandy” 😂
What amazing content your channel is great do you allow people to watch your plow days just asking we don’t live to far away
That 105 is giant when you run a 40
I have 2 model 40s very very small machines!
@@Chevy4x4dawg they are very small but I'm 12 and they're perfect for me
@@jackshoutz162 That is awesome!!! They are real good machines, mine makes a cleaner sample than alot of other machines. Is your's round back or square?
@@Chevy4x4dawg it's a round back
@@jackshoutz162 Nice so are mine. Both 1960 very early serial numbers
Is this a diesel 105? Expanded wire for a bin extension would be so pro.
My Grandpa had a 45 eb.
I ran an international 403 without a cab.
👍
Is that the original corn head, or is that a newer generation corn head? Looks like the same corn head as the 4400.
i meant in beans
Does that 105 have a diesel motor?
I don’t know the story behind them. But there are 4 of these JDs lined up in the fence row on I 80 mile marker 17ish in PA. Maybe if you are looking for a project?
We have enough projects the way it is, but thanks for the lead!
What year is the 105? What would happen if you harvested 30-inch rows?
2:56 'What the...?' And at 8:09. Might wanna have a chat with your editor. Still, enjoyed the content. Thanks!
I clicked on both of those timestamps and didn't see an issue. Was there something wrong?
@@RennerStockFarms Image reversed.
@@kevintheilen9643 Very strange, I have played back this video multiple times today and can't make it do that. Thanks for the heads up though, I will be extra careful when editing the videos.
@@RennerStockFarms You don't see the ladder on the righthand side of the combine starting at 2:56? You don't see controls reversed at 8:09? I just looked again...
@@kevintheilen9643 I see now.
How did you get the mirror image???
I really don't know, my GoPro did something weird and that is how it came out.
The inverted view really throws you for a loop
I am still not sure why that happened, this is the only time the GoPro did that too me.
When they were real combines
Man, those choppers are just right out there, ready to decapitate! 🤯
