- Anyone who knows me will not be shocked I'm making this video.
After 5 years of waiting, the Hamilton Film is finally on Disney+ to stream!!!! So today I'm reacting to it! To no one's surprise, it's a lot of crying and a lot of singing on my part.
If you've been around my channel for a few years, then you know how important Hamilton the Musical is to me. My first and only video to ever get a lot of traction was my Carpool Karaoke to Hamilton video I made over 4 years ago.
I also had the opportunity to see the show live in San Juan, Puerto Rico on January 16th for my birthday, which also happens to be Lin Manuel Miranda's birthday.

I also want to address the historical accuracy of Hamilton which has come under fire with this new release. I’m not saying the show is perfect and it’s definitely not. It’s widely known for it’s inaccuracies but I think anyone who watches the show won’t go into it expecting it to be a documentary. It’s historical fiction. Like any movie or tv show about the past, there are going to be things done right and things done wrong. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t discuss and learn from them. Lin himself has said that it should be criticized. As the world changes around us, so will our interpretations and criticisms of this musical.

It's quiet uptown doesnt usually nake me cry just on some times. Usually it hits me at "forgiveness" I just BREAK DOWN
Yeah that forgiveness part when she takes his hand speaks volumes and is the same part that gets me so emotional
I already cry everytime i hear dear Theodosia. That song really resonates cause i grew up without a dad and all i want is to be the dad i never got to have for my own children.
omni nex As a parent that song gets me every time. I think it’s my favorite of the show just because of how much it means to me.
yes when ever I watch it with my dad he held my hand through that hole song and it made the song even more special to me
Yeah, I've cried both tears of sadness and joy hearing that song. That is also the song that inspired me and helped me to see and understand how parents feel towards their children. Seeing from a child's point of view, the song motivated me to work harder and do better in life to not disappoint my parents and to make them happy

You're right about the pros and cons of the close-ups of the musical. I had read elsewhere that during Laurens' Interlude, Lafayette and Mulligan are up on the second floor reading the letter of Laurens' death. Both Lafayette falls to his knees and Mulligan takes a swig from his flask in grief. 😭 You cannot see it in this pro shot because they focused on the close-up of Hamilton looking at Laurens.

I saw it in person twice and this didn’t happen.
If you want something really cool, look up the “secret” character of “The Bullet” - She represents Death and Endings and she appears throughout the play, as well as being part of the ensemble. She first appears “Alexander Hamilton” taking the book from Alexander as he ends his time in Nevis and heads off to America. Then in “My Shot”, she “goes for Hamilton” and she’s blocked by Laurens as Laurens makes eye contact with her and stares her down - Laurens has a brush with Death. She is then discovered as a spy and killed by King George’s men after his first song. After that she is “The Bullet” in “Stay Alive” that barely misses Alexander, she also helps Laurens kill one of King George’s men and she shakes Laurens’ hand, Laurens dies next. There’s so much about “The Bullet”, go look it up, it’s so cool!
Poor bullet. Only in the ensemble, she has no lines to herself and is just there to be a metaphor. It must be hard to be the bullet. Always overlooked, just a bullet. The thing that killed so many beloved characters...hated as the source for Alexander, Laurens' ad Phillip's deaths...Poor Bullet.
sebastian banguis The Bullet is a choreography dancer’s dream, it’s such a beautiful intricate piece.
And “technically” she has lines, she “tells” King George about John Adams in “I Know Him”, then laughs and smiles, when King George doesn’t smile and shoos her away, she runs off and at the end of the song, she gets him the chair.
@@kirstyfernandes1421 actually she has more lines than that. She tells Phillip Hamilton that Eaker was last seen on Broadway and Phillip flirts with her and another woman.

Agreed! I’ve seen Hamilton live and watched the animatic with my kids several times over the years. She says it’s her first time seeing it, but she isn’t even watching it. She’s more concerned about proving she can lip synch the whole thing while staring at the camera. So, I’m a fan of Hamilton but still found this pretty annoying.
I dunno, the movie version, in my opinion, is much worse than animatic or an audio-only version of the musical.
Animatics are more artistic, believable, and can show a lot of clever metaphors the theater version can't do.
And Audio only version is much clear and emotional in terms of acting, while in this version they sound so tired
@ALMAS Most likely because in the animatics they’re using the recording in the soundtrack. People are going to come back to the soundtrack many times, it’s the first thing they’d head over to so of course they’d have to put a lot more effort into that. In the movie, they’re having to _perform._ Act, dance, and sing all at the same time several times a week. They’d have to do it over and over and over again, it’s hard to put in the same amount of effort into each show when they’re doing it so many times. There’s also many things that the animatics leave out that’s shown in the musical that adds to the show. I personally don’t really think you’re doing it justice, but I respect your opinion though I don’t agree with it.
If you recorded yourself through the whole play it looks like you missed more than half of it cause of singing to the camera instead of watching... just shows how much you love the music.

Can we start a support group? I've barely watched anything else aside from rewatching the show and when I'm not watching that I'm watching reactions from other people, cast interviews, live performances or video essays about the fucking motifs my guy. I definitely have not listened to anything else-just the soundtrack since July 3rd. It's a real addiction.

Eliza's beatbox -- that never ceases to amaze me.
I think I cry / get goosebumps with it's quite uptown so hard because I just imagine losing someone I love and like they say - it's unimaginable and you see the contrast in Alexander being so emotional and broken and Eliza standing there being strong with a single tear and a blank face...it just makes me realize how lucky I am that I haven't lost many loved ones yet.
also some contex = I didn't know the plot and had never listened to the full soundtrack before watching this, and I think being so shocked and seeing it all for the first time without knowing what was going to happen just made it so much more intense. I was truly in the moment and imagining losing a child or parent or the person closest to me and it just always makes me break down to think about going through something like that
It's quiet uptown is a bit more sad, when you know that the actual Hamilton passed out several times during Philip's funeral, because he was in so much grief
I must say, watching her watch Hamilton brought me such joy man. The energy and emotions had me laughing in a good way.

I'm from Spain and I discovered Hamilton like a year ago and I thought I would never be able to see it, so this movie has given me the chance to watch Hamilton, something I could have never done otherwise

La película de momento solo está en inglés con subtítulos en inglés, por lo que a quien no tenga mucha idea del idioma yo le recomiendo que primero busque la traducción de todas las canciones mientras escucha las canciones en orden (en Spotify por ejemplo) para que cuando vea el musical pueda entender bien la historia

I know it's not the same as being able to see it onstage, but during a time of COVID and not being able to afford tickets--never mind that you can't GET tickets for this show--I'm thrilled that we have this. It still makes me emotional, and I love it...I've watched it 3 times since it was released.
Hope that people would talk how Washington bowed his head when Eliza mentioned slavery and how he could have done more...like a shameful acknowledgement of a failure deed!!love the entire Hamilton ensemble!

Yeah, I couldn’t take the speed ups and lack of interacting with the play just singing to the camera..had to skip out..
After seeing a few videos on the music itself, I now cry during My Shot, The Story of Tonight, and Satisfied as well as the original one that made me cry: Dear Theodosia, One Last Time, Burn Quiet Uptown, The World was Wide Enough, and Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story.

Quiet Uptown makes you cry especially if you've lost someone and if you've experienced unfaithfulness 😭 the "forgiveness" part gets me everytime. I've never cried during burn, but I cry everytime during Lauren's interlude and WLWDWTYS. That's because I know exactly how eliza feels, I really do. She's frantic in keeping the memory of Hamilton, she doesn't know what else to do, she has nothing else to do, and she has tried so hard. I just, it hurts man😣

I agree with you on the tradeoff between live Theatre and Pro-shot. I also saw this from the cheap seats.
My draw to Theatre was seeing the PBS version of Sweeney Todd as a kid, so I agree we need way more access to shows in general.

First, thank you for this video. For a moment, I felt like I had a friend watching it with me. Here, in France, I didn't meet anyone that was enough good in English to watch it and understand it!
I'm personally in love with Hamilton (and theaters like Heathers or Dear Evan Hansen), but I can tell that it's really hard to find a subtitled version (cuz I'm not THAT good, I'm just 14 you know)... So I'm really thankful for the filmed version of the show. I am so impressed every time that I understand a new thing in the lyrics.
I love Musicals so much, they make me feel so many emotions. I'm literally in another world, I forget my problems, and I just enjoy it EVERY SINGLE TIME.

A lot of reaction vids are from people who purposely avoided it because they wanted to experience it first live (but CoViD got in the way) , or who had not been exposed to the hype. I cry at It's Quiet Uptown because of REG's voice, and because of the Hamiltome entry about it -- I ugly-cried on the NYC subway reading that essay. I see your copy behind you, look it up.

Stephanie, I read a comment that made a lot of sense to me. In reference to Alexander's statement about Eliza suffering a second heartbreak. The commenter said he was not referring to his affair with Maria Reynalds, but to Peggy's death a few months earlier. The commenter pointed out that was the reason why Eliza was dressed in black when she arrived just before Phillip's death. She was still moaning Peggy's death.
You're exactly the sort of person I would want to see this with. Not only would we be dancing in our seats, I think we'd probably be geeking out for hours afterward.

@Blake Hunt Heh, easier said than done. I've tried throwing myself in, but it's pretty much mentally broken me. Definitely do believe that both parties suck, though. I feel like we should just get rid of political parties and just go by what we personally think is best instead of choosing a side and blindly following what everyone else thinks. I'm not a democrat, I'm not a republican, I'm me. That's all.
I love Hamilton. Hamilton also has a very special place in my heart. It was the first musical that got me into musical and Broadway. I also love the movie because I find it hard to go to theatres because of my anxiety and am happy to be able to watch a full musical. It’s one of my comfort movies
during the rapping part in satisfied you had it sped up so i went "Oh, so you want to challenge me?"
and proceed to rap at that speed... and somehow won..... and i've only known the song as of the plays release on disney plus.... so i am one of you now...
Since this wasn't like a "first ever" reaction I watched it on 2x speed, and I gotta say, your singing and lipsynching were so on point that it looked reeeeeaaally cool at that speed 🤣😍
As for the crying, I have cried to at least half these songs at one time or another, so if you only have two, that's impressive! 🤣😝
