Wish I knew this was coming out before Christmas as I would have bought it over the Curado 200M. I wanted a true 200 sized reel that could hold a lot of line and had a decent drag rating for 5”-6” swimbaits and 2oz+ deep diving crankbaits and spoons, but couldn’t afford another older model Zillion HDTW 1520
I wish shimano would put the old engetsu 100 color scheme on some other reels, too. That’s one of my favorite reels of all time…not only because it’s a beefed up curado 70 that’s perfect for frogging and higher octane, short range applications…but also because it’s just a beautiful reel. Paired up with a zodias (which I did while experimenting) it looks like a sci fi weapon. The engetsu/zodias pairing isn’t the highest end shimano combo but it’s just so perfect…
@@THEREELTEST Yah but the scorpion is going to hold more 20lb line and have a higher drag rating so it’s a better swimbait reel or deep diving crank reel. They’re probably trying to go against the old but still in production Daiwa Zillion TWHD which has a 15lb drag rating also and is a true 200 sized reel as it holds a lot of 20lb line, and is built all aluminum and brass.
I'm contemplating ordering one of these. I use a Curado 201M for my Pike fishing, only throw up to ~4oz, so works just fine. One thing I would like to change ob the Curado 200M, spool size.. Would like to have the same line capacity as my Daiwa TWS Coastal 200 as I like to fish with ~80lbs braided line. I see that the Scorpion has the same small spool as the Curado 201M unfortunately.. And that's the only downside I see on the Curado/Scorpion 200. The reason I use such high strength line is because I don't want the line to break if I have a real bad overrun, and we often get snagged on something over here, and then I need the line strength to retrieve my lure, so it isn't my fishing that demands that line, it is my lures thats the reason.. This in turn then does that the line retrieve is changed noticably thru the retrieve.. Not a positive thing. Tomorrow I'm going to try some ~0,22-24mm/~50lbs line, hope it will work better in all the areas. If so, then a scorpion 200MD is in the foreseeable future. Don't want a 300 as it is heavier duty than I need.
This looks very interesting. I’m spending some time with my 3 newest reels before I make a decision on any others. Zillion, SLX DC & an SLX DC XT… the Zillion is smooth as butter but the DC reels are consistently perfect on each and every cast.
@@THEREELTESTIts really more powerfull? Both have the same gear (check the schematich parts number for the drive gear), drag, capacity.... so its really a Monster Drive? I mean 200MD vs 200 M
So I currently have a scorpion DC and I’m looking for something that can cast light lures pretty far so I was looking into the scorpion MGL. What do you recommend that I look into, this new scorpion or do you suggest a different reel? Thanks
Yes it does. Only problem is that the spool is smaller than 300 size reel. I use 0,20 X9 on mine and it works fine for the lighter pike fishing up to ~4oz/120g baits.
Not bad at all for $177.38 looks like a SLX reel red & black & gun metal and silver looks good to me or should I put another $335.00 and buy the Antares DC MD XG me I go and buy the Antares DC MD XG $512.75 it looks like the curado dc 200 the body I wish they would made it in DC4x8
Stunning reel. Can i ask you if you pay for this reel, which will be expensive, over a reel like the Piscifun alloy m. That reel will be MUCH cheaper with a stronger drag as well.
Obviously they can make a multi disk drag stack that puts out 20+ drag but Shimano prioritize smoothness and consistency in their drags vs just big drag numbers that look good on paper. But the Alloy M is a huge bargain for what it gives you
For me, the red accents just like the old Scorpion MGL are more beautiful to look at. There are so many silver reel in the market, and it looks so boring and dull
@thereeltest If you get this scorpion in the 7.4 gear ratio, and don’t like it, I’ll trade you for a brand new Curado200M in the same gear ration already spooled with new 14lb Shimano Mastiff flouro
Like I said I love shimano baitcasting reels but I’m tired of the same old body style and turning it into a new reel 🙅🏽♂️ and why didn’t they hide the screw holes I know Daiwa uses the same body style for their new reels I’m going to get a daiwa reel this time shimano 🤦🏽♂️
Shimano has been using hidden screw design for years. The Curado K and Scorpion MGL150 have hidden screw designs. When you are out fishing I hope you arent thinking of hidden screws
@@jahmalmorrison9294 They always do that. The Scorpion is the JDM model of the Curado. The M is pretty new though. I've used the 200 K and the 200 M for Swimbaits and I like them equally although slightly different. I was throwing 2 to almost 4 ounce baits and I couldn't recognize the difference between casting distance with the lighter spool, and think the K looks better.I like them because they're buttery smooth and hold up. They're workhorses.

Just buy used
The zillion hdtw 1520 is a great reel, I’d grab another😂 But, like you stated I could probably get two other great reels for the same price!

I love how shimano slowly just brings out beastly reels and blow your mind, I think I still rather get new met dc over scorpion
I like your opening prayer, it's never been more true 🙏
hopefully it will wake some people up!
If this thing is targeting peacock bass, this should be a great swimbait reel. Much more drag and more bearings than the M.
just one more bearing actually lol... but it should be pretty much identical to the M which is a very beefy reel

I wish they would may the scorpion bfs and DC scorpion in this color like they did the Scorpio 200 MD
I have the mgl 151 and dc 151, love the colors and look dope on my zodias rods but this new one is sleek!

I was gonna pull the trigger on the dc xt 71hg but bought another scorpion dc.
We need md300 dc reel just saying large shallow mg3 spool for casting long distance
Its funny, they used to have a DC saltwater reel many years ago
I have been thinking the same for a long time. A new range to replace the Tranx
Is there a review with real casting for this reel?
I hope you do a review on this reel. Been looking at it. For my next jdm reel
how would you compare the scorpion md200 and the curado 150mgl?
The scorpion MD 200 is the same reel as the Curado 200M so its bigger, heavier, and more powerful.

aldebaran mgl 31/ 30 or model reel have

For 22 dollars more you can get last year's shimono curado 200dc from digitaka
True
Any news on the release date for this

This is a good reel for swimbait fishing?

Going to be sick i have scorpion dc and like it. This will be perfect for throwing the tiny klash. The drag the the scorpion dc is not that strong
Looks sold for a medium swim bait glide bait reel

Brandon. Lol
Wonder if the skorpion can cast as far as the curado?
Scorpion is Curado, but for Japanese market. Same reel, different name and color pattern.
I feel the same way sometimes… However, I feel the scorpion 300md xg lh is a solid reel, sturdier than the Tranx 300
