Miss Josie, love your videos. If someone comes to the US and intends to live here permanently, they are an immigrant. My sister-in-law is from Ethiopia. She has a condo near me in Florida and comes here for five months every year. while she’s here she’s not an immigrant she’s an Expat. She is still an Ethiopian citizen and has no intention of becoming a permanent resident of the US. If she one day decides to apply for permanent residency she would become an immigrant.
Greetings, Miss Josey. Have loved your vlogs; met you when you were traveling back a few years ago through Africa with Sabbatical. Love what you do and how you do it. Have loved Vietnam and am itching to get back! Am here on the west coast USA; keep doing the rich, beautiful 'n vibrant things that you do! You bring smiles and joy to many. Safety, happiness, good health and good vibes to you always-always, girl !! ( P.S.: You.. are a gorgeously beautiful expat. )
Josey...you are our You Tube expat.. Big Smiles...looking forward to your teachings in your next video...giving the big picture of human life in motion...not getting stuck in places/categories/names/histories
Josie, it is my understanding that there are people traveling for work and staying a period of time and then there are people looking for work. Hence the expat working and the migrant looking for work.
Iam a Swiss here in Thailand since 25 years. All Foreigner any Nation is a EXPAT. Visa is Non Immigrant. Wish you a good Time in Vietnam many Expats moving there lately😂
an expatriate is not the same as an emigrant. An expatriate is, generally speaking, an individual who has sufficient income and who goes to live in another country and who in most cases is retired, but can also be a writer, a UA-camr, a manager of a branch of a foreign company, etc. .
Here’s the thing on the issue of expatriates: Expatriation is when someone formally renounces allegiance to his (or her) home country and actually gives up his or her citizenship. It's an extreme choice and a dramatic step-something very different from simply moving to another country. By definition it doesn’t differ by race nor ethnicity, however in reality it applies more to “white” people who make the transition. When a person of color, even with the same financial status does the same thing, the labels are quite different! So yes, sadly, this is the world in which we live….🤷🏻♂️
@iDreamStudiosTube actually, Whites never give up US citizenship. In reality, non-whites are the ones who give up USA citizenship. When Asians and Arabs are born in the USA but live abroad, they often renounce their citizenship so that they can stop paying taxes.
Miss Josie I am a black American citizen born and raised. I believe if I were to leave the US and became a citizen of let’s say Korea or even Africa I would be referred to as expat not a migrant. I believe that calling certain race people from certain countries expats would be ex Americans or ex Europeans or Canada as you say. It is definitely a racial way of profiling people from certain countries. It’s appalling to be referred to as a refugee if you are just visiting a country. Don’t let mankinds ignorance interfere with your travels.
I will always think of you as an expat! I was an expat in Taiwan for 20 years and my black friends there were also called expats...I've never encountered that in my travels unless you are in a predominantly white country, then I think it's probably a real issue unfortunately. Chinese are everywhere and everyone just calls them Chinese.but they are also very guilty of emulating whiteness over natural skin tone...that's why they carry umbrellas in the day.....it is triggering to think of the false equivalencies around the world from culture to culture. It's probably a term from colonial days of white privilege. I love the expat community...it's more interesting than being somewhere where everyone is a local.
I have to tell you Chinese did this before they ever met white people. In lots of countries having dark skin is often associated with being lower class. Working on a farm etc.. I don’t think it has anything to do with skin colour, I am sure in African countries there are things that signal to you being working class? This view that is fashionable at the moment that white colonialism is responsible for this and that. Most of it comes from America and the struggle they are having with the history of slavery. The American culture has become so popular around the world. It’s a shame because they don’t seem to understand that history didn’t start in 1776. If they told the American people the truth that the Europeans didn’t kill most of the native population. The War of Independence was about expanding the states into native territory, not the story they are told about taxation without representation in the British government. You speak with most Americans and they will blame the Europeans for the genocide of the native population. When Britain was fighting to stop slavery, America carried on like it was not evil. People like binary answers, good and bad. When you look back at history the answer is never that simple. The best book to read if you wish to understand humanity, is The Sneetches by Dr Suess. It Explains Racism and class, so simple but too true.
@@truefact844 I know....but I think most educated people with any sense of geography and history are well aware of how classism often uses race as a distraction from privilege...all over the planet people have viewed each other through filters and distractions. I'd have thought we'd have moved past these ideologies but sadly, many have not.
Expats is another word for immigrants. as a solo brown African traveler. I label myself an dont worry of other people, as long as you don't cross proper boundaries. We're good.the travel industry is paying attention to people of brown African descent because we're traveling the world right now.thank you for sharing sister.
Words are different depending on whether you are white or not, rich or not. Expat, not immigrant. Drug user, not junkie. Open marriage, not adultery. Sexual revolution, not promiscuity. Unvaxxed children, not derelict children Leisure, not vagrancy Classic car, not jalopy Homebrew, not moonshine Intervention, not invasion Misappropriation of funds, not theft Mismanagement, not incompetence Manslaughter, not murder Duty-free, not smuggling Information withdrawal, not lies Tax avoidance, not tax evasion Frozen assets, not stolen assets... The list goes on...
If you ever want to come to america (Ohio) where I live i would love to show you some of the most amazing places you will never forget. Come do a video about America..are you interested?
