After an artillery shell destroys our old, wall-mounted cistern toilet, I install a new, close-coupled toilet. The installation process does not go quite as smoothly as I had hoped.

I came here looking for a solution to exactly the same problem you encountered! The rubber seal just seems like an aftermarket solution that doesn't quite fit. Glad to know I'm not the only one that discarded it as unnecessary. 😂
