    Good afternoon and congratulations for creating such an excellent collection of resources, I sorted them chronologically and watched the them all during recent work outs. A recurring theme is that they are invaluable to rugby coaches and budding rugby players. But I'd like to add rugby fans to that list. I grew up in Manchester (UK) we only played football (soccer) at school so I have never played rugby. About 30 years ago I moved to the Twickenham area and have adopted rugby and enjoy watching Harlequins and international rugby. I have got by picking up stuff said by the commentators or guys at the ground or in the pub. But I have never had any formal teaching of the rules so I did some googling and found your channel. It has been a treasure trove of information and I now feel I understand the rules enough to follow a game in a better informed way. I still feel naive about strategies, e.g. who is it advantageous to start a ruck or a maul and I suppose that can vary but hopefully I'll understand that more too now I understand the rules. Thanks again, your tuition has been much appreciated!

      @@rugbybasics4269 Wow, that's very kind of you. I'll digest what I learned from the youtube clips and get in touch if I'm still unsure. I hope you are enjoying the Tour, South Africa should have it wrapped up at the weekend. Thanks again and best wishes.

    Can you explain about kicking? Why and when to do it?

    What happens if the kick is charged down? So the one who calls the mark attempts a kick that is blocked by the defenders who aren't offside

    Oi there m8, what if i touched the ball, runned for a couple meters but not passing the 22 line and then kicked the ball directly into touch, would there be a line out for my team?, in the place where the ball landed?

    • @rugbybasics4269
      @rugbybasics4269  2 роки тому

      The only way you would get the lineout is if a player from the other team touches the ball, weather it be an attempt for a charge down and they touch the ball or just if they touch the ball and it goes out.

    if I kick straight to touch does it have to be in our defense field or can I kick it to the opponent's defense field touch?

    • @rugbybasics4269

      You can kick the ball anywhere you want to. 3 things: If you kick the ball from out your own 22 area the lineout wil be there where it crosses the touchline for the opponents. BUT if you kick the ball directly into touch and you were outside your own 22 area the lineout will be inline where you made the kick on the touch line.
      Also if you are outside your own 22 area and you kick the ball but it bounces infield first and then hoes into touch the lineout will be to the opponents where it has crossed the touch line.
      Hope this helps, I have a video on kicking where we visually explain.

    You can kick straight to touch from a free kick / mark?

      From a Mark yes but not a free kick that is outside of the 22m.

      @@rugbybasics4269 but you can kick straight to touch from outside the 22m from a penalty free kick and have the lineout down where it exited the field of play

    What happens if you call a mark and don’t kick, can you run it?

    • @rugbybasics4269
      @rugbybasics4269  2 роки тому +1

      You first have to tap the ball and then you can run. But it would be wise to kick it out of your 22 (the "danger zone")

    Hi mate. Do you know what happens if you call an ilegal mark? so for example, if a player receives the kick and passes the ball and for some reason the guy that receives the ball calls for a mark (happened in a practice of mine lol). I said the ref would give a freekick for the opposing team but they said that it would just be play on and the ref would do nothing

    • @rugbybasics4269
      @rugbybasics4269  8 місяців тому +1

      In the situation you explained above it would be play on. Only the player catching the ball in the 22m can call a mark.

      @@rugbybasics4269 yeah but in my practice case the player gained an unfair advantage because the defense was confused and he took the oportunity to break the line. Surely that's unsportsmanship conduct lol

      @@rodrigocastrolima5280it is unsportsmanlike but it’s a play on. The attacker gained a (morally wrong) but legal advantage
